I saw 611 a few years ago in the Ronoke muselm its a damn shame to see this engine basiclly '"stuffed and mounted"..I remember the day the NS killed the steam program I was still in highschool my english teacher was from Bluefield WV I came in and she had a newspaper from there showing the NS had killed the program she and I both said our sad goodbys she rode behind it alot in its running days in regular service me I never got the honer sadly
I got to ride behind her and #1218 (and a lot of other engines, too). It's a shame the class 1 roads aren't interested in steam ops (except UP and CN).
yah thats a damn shame its too pretty and gracefull of an engine to be sitting dorment in a muselm I feel the NS is foolish to abandon the heratage like that hell at least use the engine for specials and such dont just let it sit there dorment what a shame..when I saw 611 it looked sad if that is possible like its rareing to go and pull another Powhattan Arrow train not sit silent stupis FOOLS the NS
This is the Engine. Here in Finland we keep the best we had in running condition like Ukko-Pekka, a pacific with third of J series in size and fourth of J's pulling power. Ukko-Pekka does nicely 80 mph but this one could do 120 mph with respectable trains in tow if given a chance. It is a shame indeed to let 611 silently rust in a shed.
She most certainly is a coal burner

Yes that does suck that she's sitting in the museum and NS has absolutely no plans to run her again...
