  • Music close to the heart of any pagan :-)

  • Jack in the green is a good friend of mine.

  • amazing!

  • One of the finest albums from an artist who put out a lot of them.

  • sinistro

  • Tracks called Greensleeved, not Greensleeves, which is the original.

  • I saw the Jack in the green

  • @Graber714 me too.

  • tull on my plates

  • LONG LIVE TULL!!!

  • Ahhh...memories of great parties!....I loved the Songs from the Wood album...

  • 11 people haven't seen the jack in the green!

  • The Best!!!!!

    you have to have wings

to appreciate what is green and light

you have to have stars in eyes

    to appreciate the simple beauty.

    hugs

  • Сегодня по музканалу увидетэту группу. Уже качаю в машину все альбомы.Как я раньше не слышал о ней?!....

Today on muz.kanalu saw this group. Already shake in the car all the albums. As I had never heard of it ?!....

  • Talk about a brilliant album!

THX JT

  • @CarlosSentinelMusica Nah. God's crap, Man. Never toured, wouldn't gig with a support band of another faith, no interviews. Merchandise is light on the ground, and he only produced one compilation, and he didn't even write that, no better than beiver or spears. And his kid, well.

"better to burn out than fade away". And his engineering was also a little skew, he put the sewer pipe too close the pleasure pot.

  • @billiebaz hey carlos you sound a bit mixed up bro, change of tune from a week ago. God is God and he cant be mocked man hes the same yesterday today and tomorrow, like good sounds he stays the same. Consistency its called look it up in the dictionary if you cant or wont understand it

  • well I'm 19 and I know what's good:D isn't it so?:D

  • muchos recuerdos de mi juventud, sobre todo cuando me enrolé en el ejercito escuché este álbum cada vez que después de una salida volvía a encerrarme y volvía a sufrir, estos temas me hacían querer los bosques donde fuimos maltratados

  • one of my all time favorites

  • Tull was also my favorite band at 15, but it took me ten years to discover that there was such a thing as "folk rock" and other bands like this. Anybody digging this era of Tull should be sure to check out Fairport Convention's "Liege and Lief", Steeleye Span, the first 3 albums by the Norweigan group Folque, and at least try out some 60's stuff like Donovan and Burt Jansch and Pentangle.

  • There's something about this song that gets me every time. Best band ever

  • Ian Anderson taught me to dance.

  • GREAT music !

  • I love the song because it is sung with great sentiment. For the folks who enjoy this song, what do the lyrics mean to you? To me the singer is a supplicant who looks for comfort from the world's tribulations in Nature. Perhaps there are other interpretations.

  • @1400deadwood To me, it was fairies dancing naked in the woods...

  • @marti72256

if we were cynical ja*k o*f in the green, due to a prediliction of onanism and cricket/golf. to each their own. Dont believe i typed that !!!

  • @1400deadwood

I suppose that was the intention when the band went to actually live in the woods to calm down and create this album. I guess you are right.

  • i absoloutly ADORE the way he talks

    idkw it just facinates me

  • @SDFStar25 I agree. His voice has always inspired me since I was very young.

  • British folk music turned into rock. Brilliant !!!!!!

  • Underestimated album. After a few listens you'll find yourself humming and singing the songs in your head the whole day long. It creeps into your soul.

  • tull always always make me smile , it does not get better than that !

  • Ian! Ian! Ian! Long may he reign!

  • fookin wow, goddam beautifully awesome...is it me or does this remind anyone else of the dark and strange english folklore that we know ..goddam i gotta stop doin the mushrooms lol

  • Superlative, masterful drumming! thanks Aqua!

  • Where the hell did Beiber and his ilk come from?

  • @VALENTINEBEAMS Dropped out of the arse end of the pop industry,

  • A long way better than what we have today. This is music!!!

  • I am going again! I was born the year "Stand Up" came out. I love this music. I am taking my (oh so embarrisng, but not) to see him AGAIN! Wish more music was as simple, beautiful, oh old fashoned, as this!

  • such an amazing song this

  • estava EU ao vivo em sampa na portugueza tempos que naum voltam mais... saudadessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • Ian Anderson, a unique human being, hugely talented. Just love the sound of Jethro Tull. Fantastic frontman, fantastic band lineup makes for a fantastic sound. Thanks for sharing.

  • GreenMan Goes. Rock Over Scissors. Grass Grows Through Pavement....

  • Few beers and Jethro Tull: summer and memories fill this bleak and cold late-winter evening. Soon the sun returns and I will dance with my hippie friends again. Love and peace, brothers and sisters! Let's watch the sunrise together and listen Jethro!

  • I am 66 and Jethro is always new

  • I love this one :-)

  • i feel like ian anderson/JT really knows what they're doing when they make a song 2:29 minutes long. only lets you get a taste... leaving you wanting more

  • No one cares if you're a teen who listens to classic rock. Clearly plenty of teenagers already do.

  • my understanding is that Anderson did all the instrumentals etc for this song--it is he and he alone

  • @KingCliffBurton I did the painting a few years back as a cover for the "Living in the Past" fanzine, around the time that j-tull.com was about to come out. I've done a number of pieces of Ian, as Tull is by far my favorite band, having gone to see them in concert 13 times. Glad you liked the piece!

  • I'm 16 and I grew up to this, bob marley and sex pistols... thank you dad :D

  • Hope someone makes a music out of his life and the life of the band.

  • 25 years old here and love this guys as well. This song is great but my favorite song is Velvet Green. Check out the live version on youtube!!

  • this was the best album ever in my opinion , love every track .

  • have you see have i died time in my hands i lie to have do to day

but do you belived in the day christ beit hates

  • People who choose recent people who Ozzy does not know (you know who I am talking about) over bands like this one amaze me, this song is pure music.

  • Opposite from 25 yo comment...am 68 and influenced to love JT by my son back in the 90s.

  • @katrynova

Now that's "Classic"...been a Tull fan since '78. Going to see the show in So. California next week and can't wait for about the 10th time! Skating Away" is wonderful!

  • whoever painted that painting of ian with the flute is awesome. that is an awesome painting.

  • This is the shit your friends talk about, stoners perfection.....

  • "Jack, do you never sleep ---

does the green still run deep in your heart?

    Or will these changing times,

    motorways, powerlines,

    keep us apart?

    Well, I don't think so ---

I saw some grass growing through the pavements today."

I get goose bumps when I listen to that part.

  • Absolutely great music and arrangement!

  • I saw some grass grow through the pavements today

  • jack in the green , the green man, looks after your home in the wood. i have a greenman on my home as i live in the woods on an island." no harm will come to those that have the greenman standing watch."i hope thats true !! lol.

  • Oh my god, I love this song so much....

  • @Ichnusia Hello, how funny that you ochs like Jethro Tull has always been my favorite band. I was at a concert last year it was very good. Look at my video if you want. Take care my friend.

  • 7 persons haven't seen the jack in the green.

  • Gotta love Ian and Tull. Timeless, INTELLIGENT music.

  • Great Band, Great Song. Lot Better than this crap music we have today.

    Greetings From Brazil.

  • @blackmorerly Y'all are jerks. OTAN helps you and, what you do now? You take another radical islamist for president.

  • @blackmorerly peace brothers... the greeks are with you.

  • @josuas500 stop complaining about music... who are u to say whats better and what sucks... u love jethro tull... perfect! but stop criticising what other people like to here... they are free to listen what they love. when ur parents told u this sucked u loved it anyway. let people listen what they love.

  • @josuas500 At 27 you're very wise with great taste in music to realize that :)

  • @jethrodassam Thank You. ;)

  • It's good to know that Green Knight is still alive & well... and modern minstrels are singing the ballads about this Celtic hero:)

  • @shadowwyrm457 - Gawain and the Green Knight , a great MIDDLE ENGLISH poem. No defined connection to... Jack in the Green, another English tradition....Celtic? More Anglo-Saxon ,probably.

Green Man = pan European -not necessarily Celtic

Why does everything pagan or traditional have to be seen as "Celtic" . Most of the "Celts" weren't even "Celtic"

  • right from Celt mythos -- truth stranger than fiction

  • thank the internet for making possible that these classic treasurable songs are widely available.

  • He wears the colors of the summer Soldier, carries the green flag all winter long... Songs from the Wood is truly an Epic Album :3

  • @Kaiverfox : Actually, it's "summer solstice"

  • @Kaiverfox : Actually, it's "summer solstice"

    Jon

  • @delvijayjon whoops well that just makes the song even better, thanks ^^

  • iT'S A FINE TALE ... (caps off) ... it's an extremely fine song ... but my mate hung himself in our woods ... what to think???

  • God, will people stop posting their ages on old music. You're not unique listening to this as a teen. It's like dad-rock hipsters. I listened to this/king crimson/floyd/etc with my dad at like 5 years old. Also dongs.

  • "money, moneeyyy"!!!!!!

  • he reminds me of Devandra Banhart LOL!!

  • i went to their concert yesterday in athens i had a great time :D

  • Ian Anderson is a true original. One of my top three favorites of all time in rock n' roll. You don't hear any other music or bands in the world that sound like him. He's one of a kind genius! His lyrics are poetic, his music - and his flute - is just well...I'm out of words.

  • so cool.tull,1 of a kind

  • I love this song very much! and i love Jethro Tull

  • Ian is so brilliant and beautiful. He could have served as model for Renaissance painting!

  • I can understand liking J. Tull, but Kiss??? Well, each to his own...

  • Jethro Tull is definately Number 1 on my list of favorite band (tied very closely with KISS)

  • @TheDistinguishedMan1 kiss sucks

  • Wonderful song from one of my favourite bands and albums of all. Still haunts me by the memories it brings!

  • Don't worry, I'm 48 and I have to say: Good music hasn´t expiration date. (thankfully)

  • the song you mention could be christy moore .

  • good post love the pictures

  • God, this is amazing. I just can't keep a smile off my face. Everything about this band gives me chills. Great song writing, musicianship. Just cool. Love it!

  • Mystery Google sent me, and sure I guess I like this song? Never heard it before, so thank you for broadening my musical knowledge. :)

  • That slays me. "Mystery Google"; ya gotta love it. This is one of my all-time favorite Jethro Tull tunes. Actually, something about it brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. Maybe because it's the dark, hard, & difficult side of the stuggle in nature to get to another all-time fav song (which also brings tears to my eyes) The Beatles "Here Comes the Sun".

  • Right on :3

  • mystery google does it again.

  • thanks mystery google, i like this song.

but im not posting that i do 500 times until you get it back.

  • the GREEN MAN lives, and WILL LIVE!!!

  • Jack do u never sleep?

  • jack will u never sleep....

  • i have to say, i have been braught up on songs like this, i am 15, and this is far better than the crap most people my age listen to, this music is truely ageless

  • lol yeah same here my dad always listened to this guy. im 21 now and just cant help but listen to these

  • @maxalottle it's so good to read things like these, thanks for keeping my hope that not ALL the teenagers today are lady gagas or kesha fans :D

  • @maxalottle you know ... i'm 17 and most people our age only lsten to nonesense crape... it is sad but i'm glad to know there is some people like me you that despite their generation still can say wat is good or transmits a message from some nonsens iqual to the others crap (sorry for bad english:D)

  • @maxalottle Good choice of music, kid.

  • @maxalottle Duude I get ya. This guy was one of the first concerts I ever went to. (I'm 16 btw) and nothing will beat this music

  • @maxalottle Im in the same boat as you man! Love this stuff, I dont understand how any of my friends can listen to the stuff that is out there today.

  • @maxalottle yeah it really is... I am 45

  • @maxalottle

When MY generation were 15, we WERE listening to music like this (everywhere) - and trying desperately to persuade our parents that it WAS 'music'.

Looking back now, I reckon we won the argument.

Congratulate yourself on your excellent taste !

  • @marvinc999

Not to make you feel old, but my mother played this to me as i grew up and this has always been music to me ;p

  • @fuzzydeathray Your mother is a wise woman she played the best

  • @marvinc999

I hear this and I'm taken right back to my university days and later, when I saw Tull numerous times in concert. They are still one of my all-time favorite bands. Consummate musicianship, incredibly creative, and I loved Ian Anderson in all his mad stage personas and for the amazing energy he brought and still brings to every performance!

  • @miriamele3

'Numerous times' ? Lucky you !

Just hope they have music like this in Heaven (I'm sure they do - providing they don't allow politicians or music industry execs in).

Couldn't face the prospect of listening to bloody psalms for Eternity...........................................;-)

  • @marvinc999 LOL Don't blame you for that! Listening to anything by Tull (but especially my favorite album, Songs From the Wood) is definitely my idea of heaven on earth!

  • @marvinc999 I do believe they will.I'll let you know when I get there but for now enjoy it while you're here

  • @miriamele3 Yes I agree mad and wonderful, they never failed to entertain and amaze audiences with their performances.

  • @MrDec202 So true! I've always thought it was really a shame (and incomprehensible!) that they never got past being a second-tier band in terms of people's awareness of them. They are so remarkably creative and inventive, and their music is so richly textured. I would go see them anytime, anywhere!

  • @miriamele3 Jethro Tull has always been a first-tier band! Don't confuse popularity with greatness.

  • @kir3txsbcglobalnet Oh, I don't, believe me! I think they're easily one of the greatest bands ever. What I said was, a second-tier band in terms of people's awareness of them. They hardly get played on the radio anymore, and I'm talking about my experience of the classic rock stations, for instance. I don't believe they have gotten the massive credit they truly deserve, and that's a shame.

  • @miriamele3 I saw Jethro Tull perform at the New Orleans zoo during the late 80s when they were touring the Crest of a Knave album. Never one to scrimp on theatricality, Ian Anderson passed out on stage and collapsed onto a bed, which had been placed in the middle of the stage. A handful of nurses in tight uniforms carried the bed round and round the stage at breakneck speed. Haven't seen anything like it since. . .

  • @kir3txsbcglobalnet LOL Wow, seriously? That sounds just like something Ian would do! Wish I'd seen that! I saw Tull a couple of times in the late 70s, on their Songs from the Wood tour and again touring Heavy Horses. They were amazing, as always; Ian was mad and manic, brilliant, athletic and graceful as a dancer, full of innuendo, a charismatic teller of tales and the whistler leading the song. That's really how I always see them as a band and Ian as their frontman. They are timeless.

  • @marvinc999 I totaly agree

  • @marvinc999

My mom was convinced that Robert Plant got his hand slammed in a door everytime he screamed....go figure!! :)

Give me a door screamer over most of the "commercial crap" nowadays..

  • @marvinc999 I'm 15 and Jethro is one of my favourite bands ;)
