@CSB I actually prefer the episodes without him. He makes scary facial expressions and I don't find him funny. But he's probably better than some of the guest stars. I wouldn't say he's one of the best though.
ok, I don't get Mike's first joke on world's worst - the plants and the skins? anyone able to explain for me? (I'm probably slow for not getting it...)
I can't believe how many times I wached this clip before I realized that at 1:10, Mike looked at his WATCH to figure out how far they were from any place.....
Can anybody pleeeaase tell me what Clive said (about Clinton?) after Greg said Clive'd lose in an election? I can't make out what he said and if I did I doubt I'd get it...
But he's struggling on anyway. And the rest of the guys are so great. I love how Mike always tries to do a little something to show that it's a team effort.
Sometimes the little things can be hilarious. I loved it when Greg turned around, and and got startled. This episode had a REALLY good cast. If only they could've had a fifth person, and had Colin in there. Then it would have all of my favorites in it.
I think that was one of the best scenes to music, not just because it was funny, but Greg and Mike were both really convincing. It was a little creepy, lol.
When I watch these, I can see that Mike & Tony were not well at the time.
Most of us know that Tony's Manic Depression was getting pretty bad at this point. In Mike's case- it was clearly his weight.
He's so active in the show and really works hard to be funny (he's constantly sweating). I think he was gone all of season 8 & only came back towards the end of 9...
Thankfully, he appeared to have got himself together a bit better & lost weight.
Mike looks all right to me, and I find it quite silly to assume that his weight affects his performance. As for sweating, this is probably the effect of his weight, not straining his sense of humour... I'd say if anything was to affect his performance, it'd most likely be the state of his friend - from what I heard, he left the show in a protest after Tony was fired.
I have heard many different versions of why Mike left the show, from protesting Tony's firing, to a personal dispute with Dan Patterson. Did Mike ever set the record straight?
I recall reading an interview where he just said "I was sacked," and left it at that. And another where he said something to the extent of "The producer didn't like me." The whole left-because-of-Tony thing, while possibly true, is still just an unsubstantiated rumor.
Now keep in mind that Dan Patterson isn't the only producer of Whose Line, so it may not have been him who sacked Mike. In fact, I doubt it, to be honest. I don't think he was the one who fired Tony, either. We may never know.
It's truly sad, I think Mike would have shined on the American version, assuming ABC didn't kvetch over his weight issues. Remember, if ABC had had it's way, Ryan and Colin would not have been on the American version.
I agree with what you said about Tony; in most episodes, he seems restless and giggles uncontrollably at the slightest things. However, Mike is as funny as he's ever been. It's a shame Tony suffered from Manic Depression and Mike quit in protest of him being fired because they're both such great improvisers. :(
mike actually doesn't look as heavy as he did in the earlier seasons to be honest. but that said, his weight probably was a hindering factor for him not being on the subsequent seasons.
I think Ryan will always be my favourite, but i'm beginning to love Greg more and more... he's so funny when he talks back to Clive! lol! I love this show... its the best ever!!!
And all the improv fans sigh in want for a time machine, that they could try and save Tony... he is clearly having a blue day in this episode.

They probably didn't want Mike on the US version because he's not funny. And he's annoying, especially when he sings.
Yellow4494 4 months ago
@Yellow4494 1. Mike McShane was one of the best performers on Whose Line UK for many reasons.
2. He actually quit after Tony left. He was a good friend of his and upset that he left.

I'm sorry, I don't get the Orson Welles joke =/
Could someone explain it?
Mayna00 10 months ago
@Mayna00 He was famous for gaining weight and eventually becoming obese (and dropping down again) during his acting career.
CSB 4 months ago
@Mayna00 I guess it's just a reference to his weight, he got quite obese later in life.

Mike and Ryan's world's worst are wrong on so many levels! *loool*
But yeah it's kinda sad seeing Tony like this. I've read that he had a cocaine problem too, as if manic depressions aren't enough...

I never said that he was sweating because he was straining his sense of humor- I said he was sweating because of his weight.
As for his absence in series 8, this is the first I heard that he left in protest.
As for Tony leaving, I thought he chose to leave...
