  • This came out when I was a freshman in highschool and between this, Mario 64 and "Bond" (that's Goldeneye 64) life was complete.

  • 4:22 Yes, you really are awful! Try tapping on the control stick instead of swinging all over the place.

  • The super nintendo one was better

  • WOW. I was 10 when that came out. I was so good at that game. It was excruciating getting all gold medals. UGH. I remember how much this game pissed me off. I always played...Kiwi? the tiny girl? Or that tall skinny chick. The graphics are laughable now. But it feels so long ago now.

  • >I say,

BORING ASS Game - Also 3DS - ..... Boring Ass GAME also!*

  • I've got the new one for 3DS.

  • I just got this game and played it for the first time in about 15 years. It holds up and is fun.

  • Out of all the best N64 games, Pilotwings 64 was the only one I didn't have.

  • the sequal is Pilotwings resort for 3DS?

  • 0:59 ROFLMAO!!

  • this game still has some of the best flight physics i've seen in home consoles.. i love it :)

  • Did this guy even play the game? There was a boss on one of the stages.

  • am i the only one who thought it was mario 64 and waverace 64

  • @100PurpleCoins same here. Whenever I go to a gamestop they keep an eye on the PS3/XBOX area as if they are expecting me to go there. Then I always see a surprised look on there faces when I come over with a bunch of GameCube game.

  • @Absol64 yeah to bad they ditched most gamecube games good thing that look is priceless to see... you know classic games prices have increased so much and classics still sell so well they could make so much money off of selling nes snes and n64 etc games

  • I SUGGEST THAT BEFORE USING PILOTWINGS 64, START BETTER WITH MICROSFT FLIGT SIMULATOR, HELPS A LOT, AFTER THAT, YOU CAN DO THE SAME WITH THIS GAME

  • I SUGGEST THAT BEFRE USING PILOTWINGS 64, START BETTER WITH MICROSFT FLIGT SIMULATOR, HELPS A LOT, FTER THAT, YOU CAN DO TH SAME WITH THIS GAME

  • I remember my bros borrowed this game from our neighbours, for what was supposed to be 2 days but had forgotten it and gave it back 6 months later.

  • This is one of the most relaxing games I ever played in my life, besides Spyro The Dragon and Flower. I used to play this game just to fly around aimlessly on rocket belt, birdman suit, and my favorite, the gyrocopter, just to enjoy the views. Good times and good memories.

  • @100PurpleCoins

Amen. I love Nintendo and Sony. They have both brought us great game franchises. Nintendo gave us Mario, Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon, while Sony gave us Tekken, Crash Bandicoot, and Twisted Metal. What has Microsoft and their Xbox consoles given us? Halo? Booooooooooooooring!

<----- proud PS3, Wii, and DS owner

  • @edofjville F*** you for saying that halo is boring 100purplrecoins is saying he favors which is an opinion ...all to themselves but you ... calling halo boring!!!! i bet you never even tried it I love Nintendo and Microsoft and favor them over Sony but i don't go around saying Sony sucks balls and little big planet is for douches, no i just prefer Xbox, Wii, & DS!!!!!

  • @zoodog1958

I never used any harsh words against Microsoft or any of their franchises. All I said was that I find Halo boring. I have actually played it. I played multiplayer on Halo 1 and Halo 3:ODST and they both bored me after only a few matches. That's my opinion.

I never said they were bad games. I simply stated that Xbox consoles have not delivered the same influential, mass appealing fun filled game properties that Nintendo and Sony have. But you have the right to enjoy Halo and play.

  • lolz i just got advertisement about a fat guy dancing

  • this game looks really good as its old it still looks cool im not sure of ds lite could run it but its still cool

  • So are you as bad at this as Pilotwings SNES? Well two mins into the video that question has answered itself.

  • @100PurpleCoins its funny how back in the day nintendo fanboys HATED Sony. Now that Microsofts around Sony doesnt seem so bad anymore lol

  • This guy really sucks at this game.........someone teach this fool to steer straight and stop swerving!!!!

  • greatest game for N64, other then super mario 64.

  • Fuck pilot wings 3DS. PILOT WINGS 64 FTW! :D

  • I'd buy that for a dollar!

  • @SpyengoEen What about 7 dollars?

  • Actually, technically, there IS one boss in the game .... Mecha Hawk.

  • lol this video came out on my birthday

  • ...and then your wishes for a new game came true at E3. :)

  • I should throw out a correction:there is an enemy you fight twice, that giant mechanical version of Hawk.

  • This reviewer is very well spoken. I admire your use of complicated words.

  • missed this game... i have played a similar game in the super nes where you join an aero club learning how to fly. you make money to advance to your flight school through flying tour missions and stuff. i forgot the name of that game please help me remember that game. cool review by the way,

  • Sounds like Derek finally hit puberty.

  • its stil a tech demo for 3d today

  • This fat plumber guy sounds like a prick, wonder what he's doin now after 14 years. Glad this games's been able to hold up, though. i don't recall playing that other game but i doubt anyone of us will in the future. Haha, right?

  • This fat plumber guy sounds like a prick, wonder what he's doin now after 14 years.

  • Aww, Derek trying to be a good reviewer for CGR, the voice is so off key now-a-days!

  • I hated this game when I was a kid it's so boring.

  • Who the heck is playing in this video?

  • this is the best review

  • i wish i knew about this when i had a n64. well, at lest im getting it for 3ds.

  • why aren't you swearing like you did with pilotwings is it because pilotwings is your one true cartrige nemesis

  • God I loved those winged levels !

  • Am I the only one who thinks Derek sounds like a fat kid?

  • @SkyMaro TO me hes skinny as fuck

  • @SkyMaro hes like the exact opposite though.

  • @SkyMaro

    With a Small Penis??

  • Well your in luck because PilotWings Resort is just around the corner.

  • @100PurpleCoins me too

  • ummh, you sound kinda high.

  • Isn't he WhatadayDerek?

  • I remember as a kid, this game bored me to tears.

  • @sumotaby I'm pretty sure this game wasn't designed for kids.

  • this is like the classic game room for nintendo fans

  • obviously it has date, but when it came out it was incredible, nintendo have not brought a wii update, i lot of people thought they would.

  • wow, Derick is so calm in this review

  • Guess I'm the only one who doesn't see N64 era graphics as problematic nowadays. I can still play all the classics without crying ,,eye cancer !!1trollolol'', even though I played way too much this gen.

A great game stays a great game forever (in most cases).

  • this game is freaking hard, this aint a causal game by any chanse, heeell no!!!!

on the other side i remember that free play as a birdman was very fun.. until star wars rogue squadron came out, then i felt i was wasting my time xD

is funny i remember the graphics more intense and shinny, ho well maybe it got decolorated by the sun i mean it was made in 96 (God i am starting to feel old)

  • 4:50 - 4:54 owned

  • FUCK UR ADS U FUCKIN SELLOUT BITCH. GET THE FUCK OFF YOUTUBE FAGGOT!

  • there is a website where you can hack this to your wii

  • I just hope the 3DS Pilot Wings is going to be at least as good as the N64 Game (preferably better)

  • @47H10N yeah man i really want it and the game takes place on the island from wii sports resort so i should be amazing

  • I spent so many hours flying my bird suit in this game!!!

  • dude i remeber trying for hours on the fist lvl to get that damn stare in the rock ring to get the wing suit. yes it made me mad but it was also fun.

  • Ahh, What a relaxing game. I remember my friend gave me this game for a bag of hot cheetos at lunch in 7th grade. I thought the landing was as hard as top guns landing though

  • I use to spend my Saturday's away from my elementary school playing pilot wings and other games on N64!

  • Howz about you all stop bitching about hiz voice. We all have a voice on youtube. Rather if it's squeaky, demanding, or just plain annoying, we do! So blahhhh!

  • There arent too many simulation games for consoles, so Pilotwings 64 holds up pretty well even today. Also, you can approach it as a extreme sports game, just like on Wave Race 64...

  • im pretty sure arcade games were featuring graphics like this as early as 93

the 'mindblowing' part was that it was on a home console

  • you got your remake! pilot wings resort!

  • @IsThisSumBattleToads Dude, what the fuck are you so pissed off about? The way his voice sounds? You seem incredibly upset over a complaint that is trite to say the least. The kid is well spoken & insightful, and he really seems like a rather pleasant chap. Furthermore, he doesn't ever use 'um' or 'ah' in the middle of his sentences - what more could you ask of a reviewer?

  • @neutronbastard He doesn't 'um' or 'ah', as you put it, because he has quite obviously wrote this down before reading it out loud. Good effort nonetheless, there's nothing unlikable about this guy.

  • Pilot Wings 64 (was awesome! I remember it!) was like a precursor to your average wii game; a cartoony mini game with not much involvement and story but still super fun.

  • Was that C Island from Startropics at the beginning?

  • I thought Classic Game Room like flame throwers.

  • this game had trippy music

  • i saw this at a game store for $8.99. I now own the game.

  • There were enemies in Pilot Wings. Remember that monster that threw ice at you?

  • GOOSE FTW!!!! :D

  • It funny he mentions wii sports resort becuase they're making a new pilotwings on 3ds that's to take place on wuhu island.

  • i was born in 1996 but i do have a nes and a 64

  • Needs danmaku.

  • if i really like the snes version will i like this?

  • hey! my b day is on may 25 2010!

  • Glad you admitted your skill, because I did notice. Lol, nice review though :).

  • Mark has a very deep voice, you have a VERY light voice, I'm not sure how old you are.

Your reviews are well written enough but your voice certainly is distracting.

  • @Protoking Derek's voice was distracting at first, but after a few reviews I got used to it. I find I'm enjoying Derek's reviews just as much as Mark's.

  • I used to play this with the girl across the street when i was a kid!

  • this is a launch title. this and mario 64.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, there are a couple of times when you get to fight the "Meca-Hawk" enemy guy..... shooting rockets at him..... but yeah its definitely not a shooter or anything, not by a long-shot...... I Looooooooved this game when it came out when I was 15!!

  • this game had AWESOME music!!!!!!1

  • Totally disagree with this review although I have nothing against the reviewer. Pilot wings was never just a technical showcase; it was a calming, refreshing, non-competitive escapist experiment and one that still holds value today. This remains one of my favorite games on the N64 and it captures flight dynamics very well for such a cartoonish title. It also happens to be the one and only reason I plan to get a 3Ds.

  • @chickenwarrior yeah this review is off. Pilot Wings 64 was never known for it's amazing graphics. Mario 64 had better graphics. Nintendo 64 was plagued with little variety of textures, and blurry textures. Later on, cartridge storage capacity increased which offered better variety of textures for example the Zelda games, and other games like of that of Bango Kazooie, Diddy Kong Racing. If the N64 had a CD format, would of definitely been completely superior to the PSX.

  • @SamuelMoralesJr meh, one of the main reasons people preferred N64 over Playstation was that it had no loading times. The lack of CD wasn't a failure (well, it was if you're into pirating games), the main reason N64 never had the treatment it deserved was the lack of support from 3rd parties, starting from Nintendo, who stupidly formed a so called "dream team" which had a bunch of so so developers and a lot of big ones were outside of it (capcom, square, etc).

  • @javierortiz82 it lost a lot of third party support because of the expensive cartridge format which was much more limited. Sure the cartridge had no loading times with most games with the exception of 1, or 2, Playstation benefited a lot from it's CD ROM drive. While Saturn had a CD ROM drive as well, it was too difficult to develop on it. CD games cost cheaper on average than the cartridge game. N64 games were priced up to 70 dollars, while CD games at least 10 bucks cheaper.

  • @chickenwarrior yea, i hope the 3DS version does the older versions justice!!!!

  • @chickenwarrior

don't waste your time it's pretty much a rehash of wii sports resort or whatever the hell that game is called

  • @chickenwarrior

    not for starfox aswell? D:

  • @chickenwarrior thanks for the heads up i will buy a 3ds now

  • @chickenwarrior

    You nailed my same thoughts.

  • @chickenwarrior My fav nintendo 64 game too, brings back childhood memories, when I moved I lost the consol and the game, I just bought a new one on ebay and the game, cant wait to play it again, its been years since I played pilot wings, great game..

  • @chickenwarrior Derek mentions that the game is fun and escapist in his review....

  • @chickenwarrior It was a show case, it doesn't have to be fast to be a show case the graphics on this game along with the physics where new and where mind blowing

  • @chickenwarrior it was indeed a technical showpiece...many games in the n64/psx era were plagued by really short draw distances that were masked by the infamous "fog" effect.. in PW64, there was no such fog effect, you could see everything up until the horizon.. granted the models and environments are low-poly but still, this was VERY impressive back in the day. i love pilotwings 64 btw :)

  • @chickenwarrior You know the meaning of technical showpiece? This is a technically showpiece, just like the new pilotwings

It shows a new technology in use to be calm and relaxing

Of course it was calming and the sights where accomplished because it was a technical showpiece, if the game had awfull graphics and a 20 meters draw distance would you play it? No, because it wouldn't be a showpiece

Same with the 3DS, the 3D is a showpiece, but made to be calm

That was kind of a stupid thing to say

  • @MrTURBOJOHN For all the dozens of people that have pointed this out to me, I never said this WASN'T a technical showpiece (or even a 'technically showpiece, whatever that means). I said it wasn't JUST a technical showpiece. As in, it was also a great game. So, no, it wasn't a stupid thing to say unless the truth is stupid.

  • @chickenwarrior Then you are agreeing with him

  • Hehe funny that its announced for the 3ds, you had a future look when u made this review!

  • haha, "red capped plumber who is beloved"

  • It's coming to the 3DS!

I wonder how the tilt-sensors will effect it.

  • I loved this game!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Derek, I think you're my older brother from an alternate dimension. 0,o

Once I realized this review was the game that I thought it might have been, I was brought back to one of the first 3D gaming experiences of my childhood.

  • 0:57 I wasn't expecting him to crash and fail

  • A good review from Derick... =o

  • You *did* have missiles on the gyrocopter and there *was* bosses. You had to destroy mecha-hawk with missiles. I had forgotten beautiful this game was, it really is about enjoying flight. The birdman stages don't even have objectives.

  • I'm surprised this kid is only 13. He sounds older and talks older than most of his age

  • Oh great another Classic Game Room reviewer!!

Great review, as always with the CGR ;P

  • I don't recall this game back out in the N64 Release, but coming down to the choice of choosing this and the "fat, red plumber guy" would be a no brainier, Well to me anyway. I remember the N64 release like yesterday. I even remember after N64 got big the release the yellow N64 with Pokemon channel or some Pokemon game.

  • I miss my N64 :'(

  • dont forget about diddy cong racing!!

  • This was the only game they had at my orthodontists' office. I hated it.

  • @razzkazz Haha my Dentist has TRON, PAC-MAN, and the Space invaders arcade machine!!!

  • I rember this game me and my dad use play this all we did was crash ans laugh.

  • 1:15 who was that plumer lol

  • I really wish that you debuted with a review like this and not that wii-mini-game set. I would have not been as harsh had I known you would write good reviews like this

  • This game does have a boss in it, sort of. I think his name was something Hawk and he was a giant metal guy you had to shoot with missiles. You fight him once in that United States level and in the Arctic level. It's easily been over 5-6 years since I last played this but it's definitely a game that's forever etched into my mind. Me and my friends would usually see who have the biggest crash. Good times.

  • @JBHutto

Yea your write their it boss and WARIO!!!

  • So either Pilotwings 64 or Mario 64? Hmm, in Pilotwings you get to fly around, and in Mario 64 you get to fly around (with the winged hat) AND there's gumbas! Tough choice.

  • your jokes are unbearable derek.......

  • @SwordsDragonsAndCoke

I agree lol but it was still a superb review. Also wow @ 5:00 that still looked cool even in this day and age.

  • Cool review! I love the swanky soft-core porn theme music. I loved the Pilot Wings game series.

  • some of the best flight gamesfor the n64 are star wars rouge squadron and battle for naboo

  • You do a GREAT JOB on your reviews. Well spoken with lots of facts and opinions, sprinkled with humor.

  • Awesome review

  • When this came out I remember being blown away by it. It was like nothing I had ever played at home, and it was fun! But your right, I picked up a N64, Mario, and Pilotwings on the release date, and Mario definatly got more play time. Nice review BTW.

  • Man I used to play the shit out of this game. You are TERRIBLE at this game, and the graphics are still good why compare this to things from today it has nothing to do with games today.

  • I don't like Nintendo. I'm not from USA.

  • @gctechs So? I'm not American and I love Nintendo. In fact, Americans probably prefer Microsoft to actually good games devs.

  • @nintygamer23 I am american i love nintendo and i hate microsoft. i would take a zelda game over a call of duty game any day

  • @nintygamer23 yeah, most people who have any sense like all of the consoles and developers for what they do, but over here it's nothing but fanboy rage

  • @nintygamer23 yep thats about 99% of us lol

    what country are you from?

  • @mcminnkey UK dood.

  • @nintygamer23 Hey dumbass, Microsoft ISN'T a gaming company. They put up the money (produce) for other companies to make games sometimes but they don't always actually publish them.

Before you make a comment, don't just look for an excuse to bash Americans, comment on what is relevant to the material of the video.

  • @nintygamer23 I will have you know that I would gladly play Mario over Halo, although Halo is still a good game.

  • I think the closet thing we have to this today is wii sports resorts airplane

  • Well, he's not bad at all and when he's on his ''own'' chanel he could do what he wants to do. But it doesn't work if he tries to imitate Mark (''we want smartbombes'').

    He shouldn't do that.

And let's face it, 99% of the viewers watch CGR because of Mark and not because of the lots of interesting facts or the objectively information.

  • fancy shmency...

  • both of the pilotwings were truly great titles that I still enjoy playing to this day

  • only nintendo games from you?

  • review that starfox 64. thats like only game i played and liked on n64. well i only played some south park game and one game i wont mention picause it causes traumas.

  • like mark derek needs a partner to prolong and amplify each others jokes and also for a second opinion

  • this game was friken awesome :D the best mode was birdman mode :) THIS NEEDS A REMAKE :)

  • What's the difference between CGR and CGR undertow?

  • @WhoBoy93 CGR is Mark CGR Undertow is Derek
