i am a beginner in cameras i know the basic stuff of a dslr and what i want you to tell me if you would recomand this camera for me,im 17 and i like photography very much:)
Is it true that E410 has better image quality (more detail) in ISO 1600 than the E-30 (provided you turn Noise filter OFF and reduce sharpness to -2)?
@TheMovieMaker123 its to attach a flash, i just found out today, i don't think its that important unless you need another flash, other than the built in one, you probably know now, like 7 months ago :)
I have this camera, I can get good pictures from close, but what I don't like It'a a colours, it's not natural, this camera its good for beginers and who don't wanna spend lots of money, its easy to use, but......It's just a cheaper DSLR, and it's hard to find a extra accesories, couse the most popular are for Nikon, Canon
I just got this camera, but testing it out today I didn't recognize a difference in the focus. Any reason why the Focus wasnt changing when i was twisting?
I've just bought the camera, but there's no way I can get the grid on the screen (as shown in this video @ 4:05) Could it be the firmware? I use the latest one - 1.3 for body & 1.3 for the lens (14-42mm, the stock lens)There's nothing in the manual on this either?!
As I recall, there's a menu which lets you choose the type of grid you want before it becomes an option in Live View. It will be in the manual though - are you looking at the more detailed PDF version on the supplied CD?
I have an Olympus E-410. The multiple flashing is the way the camera focuses. It needs light on the sensor to be able to focus. Cameras such as Canon and Nikon now have focus lights on some of their camera models. They act like a torch when you hold the shutter down half way allowing the camera to focus the image using light from the pinspot on the front of the camera body rather that using the pop up flash in the olympus bodies. Hope this helped. =]
I have just the same trouble. It is really annoyed. I really don`t know how to manage with this. If u receive any information please tell me how to deal with it.
@mojospogo ..my goodness i had the same problem for a long time..i was so annoyed with that function..next to the on and off button there is a left and right scrolling ..i think it changes ISO or some thing..what ever it is..change it to lesser and see ur problem will be solved..u can take a great pic..really..its not the problem with camera..its the understanding towards it..the scrolling alters the light..
If you'd like to know their battery lives, they're also at the bottom of the design pages of each review at cameralabs . com - and if you'd like to discuss your options further, feel free to post in the buying a new camera section of the cameralabs forums!
Hey there, hope you can help me. I don't kno wether 2 buy da canon 40D €1399, 450D €799 (both brand new) or da Olympus E410 wit 3 lens 14-42mm, 40-150mm and 35mm macro, second hand @ €600... Wat do u recommend considerin this is my 1st SLR?
There's lots of things to weigh up - check the verdict pages for each camera review on cameralabs . com for all the details - and note the E-410 has now been succeeded by the E-420...
It's a light lens, so it shouldn't have caused much damage to itself - or your table! But take some photos and see if you think it's been damaged. Maybe take it into a shop and see what they think, and comopare it to a new version of the lens. And also feel free to ask in the Olympus section of the Cameralabs forum.
There's no catch - Olympus offers some very good discounts on its DSLRs, and the updated E-420 model is now available. See our review at cameralabs . com for the differences.
I enjoy watching these reviews, Gordon, and think the 410 is a beautiful camera (my first ever SLR was an Olympus OM10 in the 80s). But, cards on the table: the Olympus E-410 or the Nikon D40? (or must you remain impartial?). And, out of interest, what camera/s do you own, Gordon??
There's a lot of features to compare, but the E-410 has higher resolution and Live View. I'd also habdle both in person - feel free to discuss this further on the cameralabs forums - and be sure to check out our brand new E-420 review!
I actually purchased the D40 a month ago and am VERY happy with it... but I can't stop myself "fancying" the E-410 as it really does seem fantastic value for money (as well as being a lovely-looking camera (blame nostalgia as well: I'll always have a soft spot for Olympus...!)
P.S. Yep, checked the E-420 review earlier today. Excellent, as always! :-)
It is good review from you.may i ask u one question. I'm in dilemma whether to buy this camera(or e-420) or nikon d40. if you, which one do u prefer? plz help
thanks for the great review, it helped me decide to get this camera. I had a G9 compact before and I now see it was worth upgrading.
Have you tested this camera (or any other E series model) with Zuiko 50mm f2 lens? It's so sharp I compared my photos with the ones taken with Canon 40D! If you have tested the 50mm lens it'd be nice to know what you think
I have used the 50mm f2, but not formally tested it yet - it is a good lens though. Check out our Olympus 7-14mm review at the Cameralabs website for another cool lens, and look out for some results with the 12-60mm SWD coming soon...
This camera looks so handsome! Without lens, it's not really much bigger than the G9. The build quality is somewhere between D60 and D80 I think, better than I expected. The viewfinder is not as good as the one of D80 but it's still quite usable.
I bought the camera (2 lens kit) for about €400, which is only half the price of a D80 (with one lens, 18-135). Great value for DSLR beginners I think.
Live histogram - "try doing that with another DSLR" .. Hello Gordon. That was horrifying.. and just to update myself in the Lumix DSLR video i dont remember on top of my mind which one. but in there you mentioned you can used 3rd or 4th type lenses which include Olympus lenses. How does this procedure work and can you do this procedure other way around, to use Lumix on Olympus
Just as a tip: E410 and E510 do have really nice-priced macro lenses, both the 50mm 2.0 from olympus, and the spectacular 105mm and 150mm from sigma, pair that with the 10X live view magnification manual focusing and you have the hell of a macro kit! Saw this set-up in a dental clinic... Also, on a 4:3-system, a 50mm macro is a 100mm macro on 35mm. I believe its sub 300$, match that canon/nikon!
Hi, its good to see your video reviews, i like the format and enjoy the reviews. Plus its good to see these great reviews comming out from Queenstown here in NZ
what about The E510 with Image Stabilisation , since its similar to the E410 could you do a video review of just the effectiveness Image Stabilisation. Thanks in advance
Hi Geekcool, as soon as we have the E-510 we'll be doing a video of it to go with a full review at the cameralabs website... should be an interesting camera!
does it take video

The E-410 and E-420 remain the smallest DSLRs, although also check out the Panasonic G1, although strictly speaking it's not a DSLR.
