sorry, shouldn't be invited to have an active role in the 50th special. I say BS! Anything worth doing is worth doing right. With all the advances in technology there is NO excuse. Shows like the Classic Star Trek and friends are examples of writers listening to the fans. Both shows would have been canceled sooner had the writers not. Sorry, but it is something we Americans do. Second, they claimed that ALL of the early actors who played Dr's 4-7 didn't look or sound like they used to, therefore they shouldn't have..
@sallyjosie Your mention of Star Trek has just given me an idea ...
Because the first three actors have passes away, in order to have a 50-year special with ALL the Doctors, they should do what Star Trek did with the 'Trouble with Tribbles'. Get new actors and generate them into old footage etc. You could also do what Star Wars did with Tarkin (Cushing's character), so we can have new footage of distant shots of the Doctors played by actors wearing masks or CGI the face on like they did in LOTR
@ImagineWizard I actually think it could work but I doubt any BBC show has the technology available to do it. But it can be done. I realise your joking but again, with CGI they could hire new actors and then CGI over their face. They've done it in movies. When it was first done years ago it sucked but now they've gotten good at it. And they could also CGI over the older actors who still sound the same as they did when they played the DR. And they could hire smart body doubles to play the older
@sallyjosie I wasn't actually joking about the CGI :P They used it in The Lord of The Rings with the Hobbits, so they could have small stand ins with the face of the actor.
Also, I don't think they should CGI surviving actors, even if they're old. What they did with Time Crash, making up some reason for the older appearance, would be better and easier. They should only do the masks with dead actors, and only then when the shot is a distant shot, not a close-up or anything.
@ImagineWizard Sorry if I sound rude but if they made up some excuse why they look older, I would call that stupid and lazy. I know that moffat did it in time crash and that was fine. It was meant to be humorous. But to do that for the anniversary would show how unimaginative he is. I know CGI is expensive but that would be so much better. I don't like the masks idea either. That would end up looking fake. even from a distance. I want the original actors but maybe with smart body-doubles for ...
@ImagineWizard episode? I want more then one stinking 2 hour special. lol No way one can competently cram all 11 Dr's into 2 hrs. Though I can imagine moffat and RTD will try. And it will suck. Big time. Shame on them for not seeking outside help. Some of us could easily come up with an excellent story. It would be expensive but it would be well worth it. I know you couldn't possibly give each Dr their own story but there are ways to give them a chance to shine. And not in some lame way, like
He sounds exactly like he did back in the 80's. Some babbling liars over on Gallifery Forum claimed that none of the old Dr's looked or SOUNDED like they used to! What a bunch of bold-faced liars! And if they didn't sound like they used to then why is Tom Baker doing the 4th Dr for a new audio play? These pathological liars need to STFU! @eateroftheflame Exactly! Sorry if I went a little overboard but I hate it when people lie to me.....even complete strangers. First they were so arrogant. Telling me that as a fan, I had no right to complain or insist that they use all 11 Dr in the 50th Anniversary Special. I love his voice. And he's one of my favourites (okay, really, I love all Doctors... except maybe the first, but I've only seen three stories with him, so...).
0:36 that wonderful moment where I thought they'd kept a regeneration secret for once, only for it to lead into the biggest cop out in the history of television
McCoy's comment about the Doctor having 355 regenerations is an interesting prediction of what was actually said in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode "Death of the Doctor".
Why would anyone want Daniel Radcliffe as the Doctor? Yes, they're getting younger but they need a good actor. Loved Sylvester and his umbrella joke here.
@eateroftheflame If that fag Daniel Radciffe became the next Doctor I will shoot him and slaughter the person who mad ethe decistion of making him the doctor. XD
Seriously though, McCoy was "my" Doctor growing up, I loved him even when I hated the story (which was too often I'm afraid), and it's quite sad that he's almost forgotten today.
What idiots! They have an actor who played the Doctor right there, and, instead of interviewing him what do they do? Cut away to a clip of people giving their opinion on who should play the Doctor. Sheesh! Why bother having McCoy there if you did not want to spend time with him,
I actually liked Sylvester McCoy more in season 24 than I did in seasons 25 and 26. I think he suffered greatly at the hands of pretentious, novice scriptwriters who turned the Doctor into a smug, irritating know-it-all, under the guidance of a pretentious, novice script editor who'd never actually written a script that got made into a TV episode and an amateur producer. I don't blame Sylvester McCoy at all, but I think the BBC pulled the plug at exactly the right time.
Eddie Izzard's as the Doctor: "Oh! I would love to, get back to the Tardis....but...OHHHH it's all covered it BEEEEESSSS!! and JAM!!! and We should go to the moon....." and all that. I love Eddie though. LOL
And why not ? , for one thing , as they said on GMTV , the Doctor is getting younger these Days , and a lot of Fan's are not very happy about that , so having Anthony as the next Doctor , somone who is older and shows that , like the Doctors of the Classic Series , running away from Monsters isint nessessary when making good Doctor Who .
Just prey some dipstick ends up thinking " i know , lets have a brand new Adric ! " " Nooooooooooo ! " .
I hope , that one day , a Writer will think up a perfectly good way to allow the Doctor to live beyond his 13th and final Incarnation forever , OR , have somebody or something give the 13th Doctor a new Set of Regenerations , wither he bloody well likes it or not , allowing him to live to be the 14th Doctor to the 26th Doctor ! .
If that could be done , then Doctor Who can stay on long enough until the Shows 100th Anniversary on the 23rd November 2063 !!!! .
@chrisplyr457 timelords can live for thousands of years. In jon pertwee's time it was stated that the doctor was several thousand years old. Later it was later said that he was younger.
I don't know if anyone else knows this and I might have just made it up, but on the doctor only regenerating 12 times, apparently hes actually regenerated many more times then this and after all he is in his late 900's I think :P wouldn't be too surprising. Any thoughts?
@Chrisplyr457 What makes you think time lords have the same life spans as us humans? lol A life span for them could be about 500 years ...when their body gets too old and weak they can regenerate and live another 500 years or so...
When David Tennants episode of The next doctor christmas special broadcasted on tv last couple of years ago, i thought David Morrisey wouldnt make a bad job of being the doctor meself.
To be honest, most of the modern episodes are resolved with hyperactive babbling about time, drowned out by the "epic" music, and the doctor waving his sonic screw driver around.
Of course they'll get around the 12-regeneration limit!
@SamusDrake Frantic running around, over dramatic music, crescendo after crescendo, the Tennant Doctor always running around shouting "brilliant, oh snap, I am the Doctor nobody will die" and Smith running around "Goody, Monsters, I eat monsters for breakfast, you companions are extraordinary, you're messing the the DOCTOR you monsters, big mistake, Amy, LOOK at me, don't you stop looking" before mentioning something from a classic episode like "do you have any celery" or "I wish I had a scarf".
Saying that, out of the "new" DW, I think season 5 is the best so far. And I wasn't expecting to like Matt Smith, either, but he has grown on me. Not my favourite Doc, but enjoyable to watch.
To be honest, though, I would like Philip Glenister to be the next Doctor! ^_^
To be honest with the doctor the character should never regenerate as a woman or when they said he could become a black doctor cause it's doctor who becoming politically correct.
@PrimusPrimal1995 theres only 12th incarnation so it will only go up to the 13th doctor but i think in the last ep the guy who thoght he was the doctor will be back in it in some way but have only have days to live and sacrifice his boddy so that the doctor can live and there for be the 14th doctor .
Funny and somewhat Ironic Slvestor quipped the closest they got to casting a girl was a scotsman when out of all 11 docs thus far only himself and David are Scottish!
They will do man! In fact, in the comic con conference RTDavies did say that we shouldn't worry about how many regenerations he has left. If he needs anymore they can always write them in with a swipe of a pen!
but in the brain of morbious, morbious reads the dr's mind and looks back at his past 3 regenerations after the 1st dr image is shown morbious says how many more dr so in other words it sounds like he hsa had mor than 13 regeneration and aswell i was reading dr who monthly and it said in there that the dr has had more than 20
in the beginning of time lord history there were 3 scientists (not from gallifrey) who were experimenting with time travel and stellar engineering. They were: Rassilon, Omega and The Other. No one knows who the other is but the 7th doctor cast suspicions that it was him as did a few other doctors but not as blatantly. this would mean he is more than a time lord. he is one of the first 3. he may have infinite regenerations. for more info look up the 7th doctor on the DW wiki.
You are indeed right. The faces DO belong to the Doctor.... sort of. It's actually been established in novel canon that they were the Other, a Time Lord who committed suicide and was incarnated as the Doctor.
@NyeTunes the master dont have a new regeneration cycle after the moster looking boddy (13th form) he stole a boddy in the ep keeper of traken then did allmost the same thing in the movie the only way he "had the power of regeneration" was becouse of the doctors hand (why do u think he keeped it on him when he was in that air ship?)
Its a shame Sylvester McCoy was given poor quality scripts when he began as the Doctor. I loved the last few episodes of the classic series with Sylvester McCoy. Oh and I am so relieved the 11th Doctor isn't James Nesbitt. =]
FlyingEnglishman, the ratings may have been good in Colin's first era, but in his second era (TToaTL), the ratings were dismal.
Jsphoenix - it's not Colin that lost so many fans (he lost so many "older fans" but created just as many new fans), it was the 18-month hiatus that did the damage.
See this behind the sofa shite, I dont know anyone that hid behind the sofa watching Docotr Who. Paul McGann should have been cast instead of Eccleston. I hate the "behind the sofa" tag it just really gets to me...for some reason.
Am i the only one who thought they were drifting away from the guest? At the end they were talking to themselves way to much. If sylvester mccoy came back, he would take over. He was the smartest doctor, he would set traps 300 years in advance and have his enemies set them, even after he told them he would destroy them. Brillant.
Sylvester McCoy in fact 'Sponey Thing' is my 3rd favorite Doctor after Patrick Troughton (2nd Best) and Paul McGann, my favorite, look beyond the awful, exggerated stereo types of 1987's The scripts in 1988 and 1989 where generally very good and so was the drama, so really do some viewing of Ghost Light and Survival before you comment again, also I would love to see you produce a show to compete with coronation street
I don't take down comments, an opinion is an opinion, but McCoy was all right, the scripts in the first season really let him down and, as he toned down the comedy to become the all knowing darker Doctor to be seen best in season 26, there was much improvement and hope for the future, they pulled the plug too early.
@tomspy77 Well said, it had nothing to do with sylvester, it was more to do with the fact that John Nathan Turner would not give up the production reigns and he had been there since Tom Baker....... It just got stale and needed re inventing, which has been done and very well too in my opinion
@tomspy77 I think that that is he same with all The Doctor's (less so in Baker's (Tom) case, and most so in MgGan and Eccelston) They should of stayed on for MUCH MUCH longer
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Jspheonix, were you around at the time? I was and believe me Dr Who went from bad to worse. I remember thinking, "not him from Vision On ?" It got so bad,we used to talk about Ken and Deidre in the playground rather than Dr Who.
@DalekBlade I would be dreadful as Dr Who. But there is no getting away from the fact that Sylvester finished Dr Who, by being awful. He even admits it himself, so don't go sticking up for him!!
Great interview! I just love Sylv. He is sooo adorable still! I, for one, would love to see him make an re-appearance in Doctor Who. I'm not particularly engrossed, to say the least, in the new series but that would definitely pigue my interest.
I don't think I've ever seen Sylvester in an interview, but he's absolutely hilarious! He was a great Doctor, it's just a shame that some of the scripts he had to work with were sub-par.
McCoy should come back in one of those multi Doctor episodes. He has aged grafully and he still kinda looks like he did when he played. I wonder what the specials are gonna be about.
I was disapointed that David didn't regenerate. What annoys me is David's gone walkies on the show and is going to leave it in a hangover and when he does do the three specials (And no series for a whole year) and after that he's going to regenerate anyway! Bloody time waister. I was hoping a Dalek was going to shoot him and say "THERE, NOW YOURE GOING TO REGENERATE!"
Mccoy was such a good doctor. I have a hunch that he's coming back for a mult-doctor story, and wouldnt that be great. Oh and if dan radcliffe is ever doctor who, it'll destroy the series once and for all, he's too young and too harry potter.
Daniel Ratcliff obviously NOT! And thank goodness it was none of those four "Somebody's"

What idiots! They have an actor who played the Doctor right there, and, instead of interviewing him what do they do? Cut away to a clip of people giving their opinion on who should play the Doctor. Sheesh! Why bother having McCoy there if you did not want to spend time with him,
Monkofmagnesia 1 year ago
I actually liked Sylvester McCoy more in season 24 than I did in seasons 25 and 26. I think he suffered greatly at the hands of pretentious, novice scriptwriters who turned the Doctor into a smug, irritating know-it-all, under the guidance of a pretentious, novice script editor who'd never actually written a script that got made into a TV episode and an amateur producer. I don't blame Sylvester McCoy at all, but I think the BBC pulled the plug at exactly the right time.

The 12th Doctor - ANTHONY STEWART HEAD !!!!

Later it was later said that he was younger.
goestoyourhead 1 year ago
I don't know if anyone else knows this and I might have just made it up, but on the doctor only regenerating 12 times, apparently hes actually regenerated many more times then this and after all he is in his late 900's I think :P wouldn't be too surprising. Any thoughts?
Chrisplyr457 1 year ago
@Chrisplyr457 What makes you think time lords have the same life spans as us humans? lol A life span for them could be about 500 years ...when their body gets too old and weak they can regenerate and live another 500 years or so...

To be honest, most of the modern episodes are resolved with hyperactive babbling about time, drowned out by the "epic" music, and the doctor waving his sonic screw driver around.
Of course they'll get around the 12-regeneration limit!
SamusDrake 1 year ago
@SamusDrake Frantic running around, over dramatic music, crescendo after crescendo, the Tennant Doctor always running around shouting "brilliant, oh snap, I am the Doctor nobody will die" and Smith running around "Goody, Monsters, I eat monsters for breakfast, you companions are extraordinary, you're messing the the DOCTOR you monsters, big mistake, Amy, LOOK at me, don't you stop looking" before mentioning something from a classic episode like "do you have any celery" or "I wish I had a scarf".

You've nailed it on the head!

To be honest with the doctor the character should never regenerate as a woman or when they said he could become a black doctor cause it's doctor who becoming politically correct.
psycoticbastard 1 year ago 3
I think the idea of a girl is pointless now because we have two Doctor's left. But if he goes beyond the 14th incarnation, I'd say go for it.
PrimusPrimal1995 2 years ago
@PrimusPrimal1995 theres only 12th incarnation so it will only go up to the 13th doctor but i think in the last ep the guy who thoght he was the doctor will be back in it in some way but have only have days to live and sacrifice his boddy so that the doctor can live and there for be the 14th doctor .

They will do man! In fact, in the comic con conference RTDavies did say that we shouldn't worry about how many regenerations he has left. If he needs anymore they can always write them in with a swipe of a pen!

but the dr has had over 13 lives watch tom bakers story the brain of morbious and u will c what i mean
BossRoss999 2 years ago
Um read the TSV TimeGuide it fully explains it away.
germanchap 2 years ago
but in the brain of morbious, morbious reads the dr's mind and looks back at his past 3 regenerations after the 1st dr image is shown morbious says how many more dr so in other words it sounds like he hsa had mor than 13 regeneration and aswell i was reading dr who monthly and it said in there that the dr has had more than 20
BossRoss999 2 years ago
no those are images from morbius' past. besides, the doctor is more than just another time lord
OmegaShenron6574 2 years ago
what does it mean he is more than just another time lord because i have never understood that
BossRoss999 2 years ago
in the beginning of time lord history there were 3 scientists (not from gallifrey) who were experimenting with time travel and stellar engineering.
OmegaShenron6574 2 years ago 3
You are indeed right. The faces DO belong to the Doctor.... sort of. It's actually been established in novel canon that they were the Other, a Time Lord who committed suicide and was incarnated as the Doctor.
NyeTunes 2 years ago
do u think the doctor has unlimited regenerations then
BossRoss999 2 years ago
No, he has twelve as it stands, unless they pull a Master and renew his regeneration cycle.
NyeTunes 2 years ago

Sylvester McCoy. The man who caused Dr Who to be taken off the air because he was so awful.
spongeything 3 years ago
I don't take down comments, an opinion is an opinion, but McCoy was all right, the scripts in the first season really let him down and, as he toned down the comedy to become the all knowing darker Doctor to be seen best in season 26, there was much improvement and hope for the future, they pulled the plug too early.
tomspy77 3 years ago 10
If only they'd made Season 27.....imagine...! It would've been amazing! Doctor Who for the '90s, the best decade!
fugazi32 3 years ago 2
@tomspy77 Well said, it had nothing to do with sylvester, it was more to do with the fact that John Nathan Turner would not give up the production reigns and he had been there since Tom Baker....... It just got stale and needed re inventing, which has been done and very well too in my opinion
buffykidd1971 1 year ago
@tomspy77 I think that that is he same with all The Doctor's (less so in Baker's (Tom) case, and most so in MgGan and Eccelston) They should of stayed on for MUCH MUCH longer

I was disapointed that David didn't regenerate. What annoys me is David's gone walkies on the show and is going to leave it in a hangover and when he does do the three specials (And no series for a whole year) and after that he's going to regenerate anyway!
