  • Daniel Ratcliff obviously NOT! And thank goodness it was none of those four "Somebody's"

  • Slvesters real name is Percy James Patrick Kent Smith :P

  • Underated Doctor.

  • Why does everyone put on a fake accent when playing the Doctor WHY?

  • @IRNBRU64 Pretty sure Tennant is the only one who has done that.

  • Does anyone else get annoyed when presenters call him 'Doctor Who'? HE"S CALLED THE DOCTOR. DOCTOR WHO IS THE NAME OF THE BLOODY SHOW.

  • @instalation9 yeah it bugs me too

  • sean pertwee should be the next doctor

  • Sylvester McCoy is my favorite doctor. If that means anything coming from an American.

  • Daniel Radcliffe FTW!!!!!

  • I declare myself 'Doctor Who'

  • Not one of them got it right

  • @153ace

well Matt Smith was a total nobody before doctor who, so it figures they never mentioned him

  • @HelmutVillam Smith wasnt a nobody, he was in dramas like "Party Animals" and the Sally Lockhart dramas

  • Dr matt should be saked for being the crappest dr who ever and replaced with DAVID BOWIE..... please god!!!!

  • @Intraverseneptune

YOU should be saCked and replaced with David Bowie.

  • @IISCOOL67 I don't haVe the buDget to replace mYself with David Bowie neitHer does the BbC.

  • @Intraverseneptune

    Never mind, then.

  • just pool all their energy together. That would be stupid. But I have a feeling thats the best they will be able to come up with.

  • of Jo was shown. And I bet several of the women will say no because they don't want to be treated as an after thought and they don't want to play the "helpless" female bit which went out with the dinosaur. Of course someone pointed out if it wasn't for the male-chauvinist pigs of the 70's (and even in the 21st century) there would have been no Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. lol I've never seen that movie but I've heard several quotes. anyway they don't write properly for women.

  • former female companions unlike the RTD who I thought did a crappy job with Jo Grant on the Sarah Jane Adventures. Yes, Jo was a little flaky but she was also clever and down to Earth. She was also very brave. Have you ever seen 'The Demons'? I know the Brits spell it differently. Anyway, at the end she was willing to sacrifice herself to save the Dr. And she was the one in 'The Three Doctors' who thought of Dr's 2 & 3 combining their mental powers to use against Omega. But none of that aspect

  • any action scenes. And no, I won't elaborate. If they want to know they can hire me. I know, when hades freezes over. lol And while the die-hard fans will like some lame-azz 2 hr "special" I and millions of others will be left feeling disappointed in it. He needs to roll up his sleeves and find some people to fianance a huge project. And ironically your idea from star Trek was close to one of my own ideas by combining 2 drs for a new story within an old one. And I would show repsect for the ...

  • Dr's given almost equal time. And YES it can be done, but not with some cheesy little 2 hr special. I predict the so-called special will be a disaster.

  • dr's for scenes requiring them to run or fight or move quickly. Intelligent writing and good directing could work around the real actors age. But again, it require being imaginative and actually caring about really including them in a meaningful way in the special. But alas the other Dr's will probably turn out to be merely window dressing while the latest 3 will have all the good stuff. Sorry thats extrememly disrespectful to the older actors even if they don't agree. I want to see all the

  • Fifth Doctor wore glasses also, which I am ashamed McCoy did not know. Although, Time Crash suggests that the Doctor doesn't need them, he just likes to wear them.

A part of me always dies when I hear someone call the character 'Dr. Who'.

HIS NAME IS THE DOCTOR, DOCTOR WHO IS THE NAME OF THE SHOW!

  • Would love to see robert carlyle play the doctor after matt smith

  • 7 had an impeccable sense of Haute Couture.

  • Man I loved the McCoy episodes. I wish He had had more time.

  • good man syl ,best of luck with your role in the hobbit

  • I like that they go with unknowns. It's a danger for anyone trying to get into the business, as they are sure to be typecasted. But having an unknown, you don't associate them with anyone other than they doctor when watching them.

  • to their ego's will not be tolerated. If we wait to see what they are doing, it would be too late. Granted, they probably don't care what us little fans think. But if enough of a hoopla (loud noise) was made they might be forced to take notice. A proper tribute to celebrate 50 years on the air would involve ALL the Dr's and ALL the companions. Using new actors to fill in for those who have passed away or are too weak to participate. Not for Sarah Jane or the Brig. Their deaths are too recent.

  • sorry, shouldn't be invited to have an active role in the 50th special. I say BS! Anything worth doing is worth doing right. With all the advances in technology there is NO excuse. Except of course the one where RTD and Moffat want to ONLY focus on the last 3 because thats the 3 they wrote for. In other words, it would really be a tribute to their over-blown egos rather then to show itself. I realise we have no idea what they plan to do. I am trying to let it be known that a stinking tribute...

  • one or two fans complain about something, then by all means, ignore them, But if thousands of fans do not like something or someone then smart writers listen. Shows like the Classic Star Trek and friends are examples of writers listening to the fans. Both shows would have been canceled sooner had the writers not. Sorry, but it is something we Americans do. Second, they claimed that ALL of the early actors who played Dr's 4-7 didn't look or sound like they used to, therefore they shouldn't have..

  • @sallyjosie Your mention of Star Trek has just given me an idea ...

Because the first three actors have passes away, in order to have a 50-year special with ALL the Doctors, they should do what Star Trek did with the 'Trouble with Tribbles'. Get new actors and generate them into old footage etc. You could also do what Star Wars did with Tarkin (Cushing's character), so we can have new footage of distant shots of the Doctors played by actors wearing masks or CGI the face on like they did in LOTR

  • @ImagineWizard I actually think it could work but I doubt any BBC show has the technology available to do it. But it can be done. I realise your joking but again, with CGI they could hire new actors and then CGI over their face. They've done it in movies. When it was first done years ago it sucked but now they've gotten good at it. And they could also CGI over the older actors who still sound the same as they did when they played the DR. And they could hire smart body doubles to play the older

  • @sallyjosie I wasn't actually joking about the CGI :P They used it in The Lord of The Rings with the Hobbits, so they could have small stand ins with the face of the actor.

Also, I don't think they should CGI surviving actors, even if they're old. What they did with Time Crash, making up some reason for the older appearance, would be better and easier. They should only do the masks with dead actors, and only then when the shot is a distant shot, not a close-up or anything.

  • @ImagineWizard Sorry if I sound rude but if they made up some excuse why they look older, I would call that stupid and lazy. I know that moffat did it in time crash and that was fine. It was meant to be humorous. But to do that for the anniversary would show how unimaginative he is. I know CGI is expensive but that would be so much better. I don't like the masks idea either. That would end up looking fake. even from a distance. I want the original actors but maybe with smart body-doubles for ...

  • @sallyjosie No, you don't sound rude, it's ok. But CGI would be too complicated for an entire episode.

  • @ImagineWizard episode? I want more then one stinking 2 hour special. lol No way one can competently cram all 11 Dr's into 2 hrs. Though I can imagine moffat and RTD will try. And it will suck. Big time. Shame on them for not seeking outside help. Some of us could easily come up with an excellent story. It would be expensive but it would be well worth it. I know you couldn't possibly give each Dr their own story but there are ways to give them a chance to shine. And not in some lame way, like

  • He sounds exactly like he did back in the 80's. Some babbling liars over on Gallifery Forum claimed that none of the old Dr's looked or SOUNDED like they used to! What a bunch of bold-faced liars! And if they didn't sound like they used to then why is Tom Baker doing the 4th Dr for a new audio play? These pathological liars need to STFU! I haven't heard Colin but I bet he sounds similar to how he used to when he played the Dr. And Peter sounded the same back in 2007. Liars Liars pants on fire

  • @sallyjosie I listen to the Big Finish stuff and with the exception of a few 60s companions everyone sounds pretty much the same.

  • @eateroftheflame Exactly! Sorry if I went a little overboard but I hate it when people lie to me.....even complete strangers. First they were so arrogant. Telling me that as a fan, I had no right to complain or insist that they use all 11 Dr in the 50th Anniversary Special. They said I was just like fans of (Europeon) Football trying to tell the coach how to run the team. I disagree. If writers want to keep their fans happy, then they should listen when a majority agree on something. If only

  • I bet he'll be great in The Hobbit movie

  • I love his voice. And he's one of my favourites (okay, really, I love all Doctors... except maybe the first, but I've only seen three stories with him, so...).

  • Rupert Grint as the next Doctor? He's ginger and the Doctor would love that XD

  • @SasChanSasuke But we need someone older now. D:

  • radagast whoo!

  • stupid girl asked stupid questions. that male questioner was really working with Sylvester to get some great television

  • 0:36 that wonderful moment where I thought they'd kept a regeneration secret for once, only for it to lead into the biggest cop out in the history of television

  • 0:20 5.50pm? UMMMMM...

  • McCoy's comment about the Doctor having 355 regenerations is an interesting prediction of what was actually said in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode "Death of the Doctor".

  • Would anyone think it be cool if Sylvestor's Doctor met the current one.

  • @gothamcity29 YES!

  • Eddie Izzard, theres a Doctor I would like to see. Even if its just a comedy spoof.

  • Why would anyone want Daniel Radcliffe as the Doctor? Yes, they're getting younger but they need a good actor. Loved Sylvester and his umbrella joke here.

  • @eateroftheflame If that fag Daniel Radciffe became the next Doctor I will shoot him and slaughter the person who mad ethe decistion of making him the doctor. XD

  • @Bigfinlach

What the heck man Daniel Radcliffe is a good actor and not a deuchebag like every other actor who made big as a child. Like Taylor Lautner!

  • Dan radcliff! Ha...he's a good harry potter, but Doctor who?? Na..

  • Great video. I love McCoy, he had such a shit deal as the Doctor.

    Gotta love the speculation here.

  • Daniel Radcliffe?

Seriously though, McCoy was "my" Doctor growing up, I loved him even when I hated the story (which was too often I'm afraid), and it's quite sad that he's almost forgotten today.

  • What idiots! They have an actor who played the Doctor right there, and, instead of interviewing him what do they do? Cut away to a clip of people giving their opinion on who should play the Doctor. Sheesh! Why bother having McCoy there if you did not want to spend time with him,

  • I actually liked Sylvester McCoy more in season 24 than I did in seasons 25 and 26. I think he suffered greatly at the hands of pretentious, novice scriptwriters who turned the Doctor into a smug, irritating know-it-all, under the guidance of a pretentious, novice script editor who'd never actually written a script that got made into a TV episode and an amateur producer. I don't blame Sylvester McCoy at all, but I think the BBC pulled the plug at exactly the right time.

  • Uh...who is that blonde beside the host???

  • Eddie Izzard's as the Doctor: "Oh! I would love to, get back to the Tardis....but...OHHHH it's all covered it BEEEEESSSS!! and JAM!!! and We should go to the moon....." and all that. I love Eddie though. LOL

  • "heard" I meant, before I saw this video

  • "That's to protect myself against fans of Colin Baker's." LOL I hear those two are actually friends.

  • Daniel Radcliffe cant play the doctor he cant act

  • "He's wearing trainers now, which would never have happened in your day"

    ....Peter Davidson...

  • Anthony Head and Simon pegg have already been on doctor who

  • Sorry , i ment to say " prey some dipstick doesint end up thinking " , not does , my bad .

  • The 12th Doctor - ANTHONY STEWART HEAD !!!!

And why not ? , for one thing , as they said on GMTV , the Doctor is getting younger these Days , and a lot of Fan's are not very happy about that , so having Anthony as the next Doctor , somone who is older and shows that , like the Doctors of the Classic Series , running away from Monsters isint nessessary when making good Doctor Who .

    Just prey some dipstick ends up thinking " i know , lets have a brand new Adric ! " " Nooooooooooo ! " .

  • You gotta wonder - which Doctors watch it and when they watch it, do they take their saturdays out to do so? lol

  • WOAH!! HE LOOKS SO DRIFFRENT WOAH!!!!

  • @RumbleFriends He's grayer, but he looks more like he did when he played the Doctor than Colin or Tom.

  • I hope , that one day , a Writer will think up a perfectly good way to allow the Doctor to live beyond his 13th and final Incarnation forever , OR , have somebody or something give the 13th Doctor a new Set of Regenerations , wither he bloody well likes it or not , allowing him to live to be the 14th Doctor to the 26th Doctor ! .

If that could be done , then Doctor Who can stay on long enough until the Shows 100th Anniversary on the 23rd November 2063 !!!! .

  • radcliff couldnt play The doctor he is a bad actor

  • @chrisplyr457 timelords can live for thousands of years. In jon pertwee's time it was stated that the doctor was several thousand years old. Later it was later said that he was younger.

  • I don't know if anyone else knows this and I might have just made it up, but on the doctor only regenerating 12 times, apparently hes actually regenerated many more times then this and after all he is in his late 900's I think :P wouldn't be too surprising. Any thoughts?

  • @Chrisplyr457 What makes you think time lords have the same life spans as us humans? lol A life span for them could be about 500 years ...when their body gets too old and weak they can regenerate and live another 500 years or so...

  • @Chrisplyr457 steven moffat's working around the 12 regeneration thing..

  • god i remember that and how much the cliffhanger pissed me off

  • to be honest i don't really think many people care for the reason why the doctor has loads more regernerations

just that the series carries on

  • When David Tennants episode of The next doctor christmas special broadcasted on tv last couple of years ago, i thought David Morrisey wouldnt make a bad job of being the doctor meself.

  • McCoy is my 3rd favorite doctor.

  • Sylvester has aged well, if he dyed his hair and got his old costume, he would look just like he did in the 80s.

  • hehe kind of weird that no one thought that Matt Smith would be the new doctor

  • eddie izzard for the 12th doctor !

  • To be honest, most of the modern episodes are resolved with hyperactive babbling about time, drowned out by the "epic" music, and the doctor waving his sonic screw driver around.

Of course they'll get around the 12-regeneration limit!

  • @SamusDrake Frantic running around, over dramatic music, crescendo after crescendo, the Tennant Doctor always running around shouting "brilliant, oh snap, I am the Doctor nobody will die" and Smith running around "Goody, Monsters, I eat monsters for breakfast, you companions are extraordinary, you're messing the the DOCTOR you monsters, big mistake, Amy, LOOK at me, don't you stop looking" before mentioning something from a classic episode like "do you have any celery" or "I wish I had a scarf".

  • @fjccommish

You've nailed it on the head!

Saying that, out of the "new" DW, I think season 5 is the best so far. And I wasn't expecting to like Matt Smith, either, but he has grown on me. Not my favourite Doc, but enjoyable to watch.

To be honest, though, I would like Philip Glenister to be the next Doctor! ^_^

  • In 1990, readers of Doctor Who Magazine voted McCoy's Doctor "Best Doctor", over perennial favourite Tom Baker.

  • @zoidberg590 They were probably considering the New Adventures books in their votes.

  • dose slivester and collin get along now? or is collin still upset about being fired? sliverster didnt fare aswell he got cancled

  • To be honest with the doctor the character should never regenerate as a woman or when they said he could become a black doctor cause it's doctor who becoming politically correct.

  • I think the idea of a girl is pointless now because we have two Doctor's left. But if he goes beyond the 14th incarnation, I'd say go for it.

  • @PrimusPrimal1995 theres only 12th incarnation so it will only go up to the 13th doctor but i think in the last ep the guy who thoght he was the doctor will be back in it in some way but have only have days to live and sacrifice his boddy so that the doctor can live and there for be the 14th doctor .

  • @hellpod666 How in the nine hells do you work that out? :|

  • Funny and somewhat Ironic Slvestor quipped the closest they got to casting a girl was a scotsman when out of all 11 docs thus far only himself and David are Scottish!

  • Those idiots... that wasn't even a legit regeneration, 'cause Tennant stuck around! :-P

  • "You have an umbrella."

"Yes its to protect me from Colin Baker fans"

  • Its matt smith the new doctor

  • I'm all for 355 regenerations!!! *hee hee* =D

  • i always thought armando iannucci should be dr who

  • DR. WHO RULES!!!!

  • I really think they should cap over 13 lives.

  • They will do man! In fact, in the comic con conference RTDavies did say that we shouldn't worry about how many regenerations he has left. If he needs anymore they can always write them in with a swipe of a pen!

  • I don't really want them to. :(

  • but the dr has had over 13 lives watch tom bakers story the brain of morbious and u will c what i mean

  • Um read the TSV TimeGuide it fully explains it away.

  • but in the brain of morbious, morbious reads the dr's mind and looks back at his past 3 regenerations after the 1st dr image is shown morbious says how many more dr so in other words it sounds like he hsa had mor than 13 regeneration and aswell i was reading dr who monthly and it said in there that the dr has had more than 20

  • no those are images from morbius' past. besides, the doctor is more than just another time lord

  • what does it mean he is more than just another time lord because i have never understood that

  • in the beginning of time lord history there were 3 scientists (not from gallifrey) who were experimenting with time travel and stellar engineering. They were: Rassilon, Omega and The Other. No one knows who the other is but the 7th doctor cast suspicions that it was him as did a few other doctors but not as blatantly. this would mean he is more than a time lord. he is one of the first 3. he may have infinite regenerations. for more info look up the 7th doctor on the DW wiki.

  • You are indeed right. The faces DO belong to the Doctor.... sort of. It's actually been established in novel canon that they were the Other, a Time Lord who committed suicide and was incarnated as the Doctor.

  • do u think the doctor has unlimited regenerations then

  • No, he has twelve as it stands, unless they pull a Master and renew his regeneration cycle.

  • @NyeTunes the master dont have a new regeneration cycle after the moster looking boddy (13th form) he stole a boddy in the ep keeper of traken then did allmost the same thing in the movie the only way he "had the power of regeneration" was becouse of the doctors hand (why do u think he keeped it on him when he was in that air ship?)

  • Its a shame Sylvester McCoy was given poor quality scripts when he began as the Doctor. I loved the last few episodes of the classic series with Sylvester McCoy. Oh and I am so relieved the 11th Doctor isn't James Nesbitt. =]

  • Oh, my God, even the very idea brings me close to tears.

  • I love McCoy. Just look at him. He oozes the suave that the Doctor needs.

  • I sense that the little boy presenting this show didn't realise that Sylvester was a Scotsman!

  • And Ironicly so is David Tennant.

  • Sylvester McCoy is the best Doctor of all of them, he is witty, and can outwit any of his enemies ten fold!

  • @roseblueyes He is probably my favorite classic doctor!

  • @roseblueyes no

  • McCoy's my Doctor.

  • I met him last night backstage at the Theatre Royal Nottingham. Really nice guy and really funny. He signed my Doctor Who book for me! :o)

  • at 3:42 PAUSE IT and its like sylvestor mccoys under some sort of trance or relief!!?

  • he was my fav..they should bring him back

  • hes still my doctor

    ( what can i say , i was 12 years old )

  • he's such a lovely man! so's tom!

  • the point about the toffee was about the richard armitage comment, i just clicked on the wrong thingy. Sylvester McCoy is awesome

  • FlyingEnglishman, the ratings may have been good in Colin's first era, but in his second era (TToaTL), the ratings were dismal.

Jsphoenix - it's not Colin that lost so many fans (he lost so many "older fans" but created just as many new fans), it was the 18-month hiatus that did the damage.

  • See this behind the sofa shite, I dont know anyone that hid behind the sofa watching Docotr Who. Paul McGann should have been cast instead of Eccleston. I hate the "behind the sofa" tag it just really gets to me...for some reason.

  • people the only reason the show stopped in 1989 because no-one wanted to produce it

  • A brilliant new Doctor would be Richard Armitage, he would take the show in a different direction!

  • Wasn't Richard Armitage in Robin Hood and the Vicar of Dibley?

  • yeah.

  • Am i the only one who thought they were drifting away from the guest? At the end they were talking to themselves way to much. If sylvester mccoy came back, he would take over. He was the smartest doctor, he would set traps 300 years in advance and have his enemies set them, even after he told them he would destroy them. Brillant.

  • Sylvester McCoy in fact 'Sponey Thing' is my 3rd favorite Doctor after Patrick Troughton (2nd Best) and Paul McGann, my favorite, look beyond the awful, exggerated stereo types of 1987's The scripts in 1988 and 1989 where generally very good and so was the drama, so really do some viewing of Ghost Light and Survival before you comment again, also I would love to see you produce a show to compete with coronation street

  • I don't take down comments, an opinion is an opinion, but McCoy was all right, the scripts in the first season really let him down and, as he toned down the comedy to become the all knowing darker Doctor to be seen best in season 26, there was much improvement and hope for the future, they pulled the plug too early.

  • If only they'd made Season 27.....imagine...! It would've been amazing! Doctor Who for the '90s, the best decade!

  • @tomspy77 Well said, it had nothing to do with sylvester, it was more to do with the fact that John Nathan Turner would not give up the production reigns and he had been there since Tom Baker....... It just got stale and needed re inventing, which has been done and very well too in my opinion

  • @tomspy77 I think that that is he same with all The Doctor's (less so in Baker's (Tom) case, and most so in MgGan and Eccelston) They should of stayed on for MUCH MUCH longer

  • nope it was colin baker, they took baker off because he lost the show so many fans, they brought in mccoy tosave it but, it was too late

  • ok ok, I wasn't, just hwat everyone told me, my bad, but I have watched them, personally Colin baker was the worst by far

  • @spongeything the 7th doctor was not awful like u could do any better and the 6th doctor was the wrost

  • @DalekBlade I would be dreadful as Dr Who. But there is no getting away from the fact that Sylvester finished Dr Who, by being awful. He even admits it himself, so don't go sticking up for him!!

  • DANIEL RADCLIFFE WOULD BE RUBBISH!!!

  • Daniel Radcliffe is too busy anyway being Harry Potter. Anyway, he's too young. The Doctors were all between 30 and 50ish.

  • @Cybusmaster92 peter wasn't peter was 29 when he started

  • Michael Praed can be a great doctor who.

  • Oops sorry that is "pique" my interest. Not sure "pigue" is a word. I always seem to place "g" in where "q" should be. I do it all the time! GRRR!

  • Don't you mean "QRRR!"? :-)

  • Great interview! I just love Sylv. He is sooo adorable still! I, for one, would love to see him make an re-appearance in Doctor Who. I'm not particularly engrossed, to say the least, in the new series but that would definitely pigue my interest.

  • I don't think I've ever seen Sylvester in an interview, but he's absolutely hilarious! He was a great Doctor, it's just a shame that some of the scripts he had to work with were sub-par.

The bit about Colin Baker's fans was too funny =)

  • If Daniel Radcliffe becomes the next doctor then Im living Britain!!

  • McCoy should come back in one of those multi Doctor episodes. He has aged grafully and he still kinda looks like he did when he played. I wonder what the specials are gonna be about.

  • I was disapointed that David didn't regenerate. What annoys me is David's gone walkies on the show and is going to leave it in a hangover and when he does do the three specials (And no series for a whole year) and after that he's going to regenerate anyway! Bloody time waister. I was hoping a Dalek was going to shoot him and say "THERE, NOW YOURE GOING TO REGENERATE!"

  • Very funy man!!!

  • No Dutchy you've tricked yourself.

  • Mccoy was such a good doctor. I have a hunch that he's coming back for a mult-doctor story, and wouldnt that be great. Oh and if dan radcliffe is ever doctor who, it'll destroy the series once and for all, he's too young and too harry potter.

  • Eddie Izzard would be soooooo fuckin good!!!!!!!!!

  • McCoy is superb.

  • good 'ol McCoy

  • Thanks from a McCoy fan in the states!

  • THanks nice upload!
