I've noticed that is the case for a number of videos, but not all. There are a number of free websites now that will convert youtube videos to various formats (mp3, mov, etc...). One that comes to mind is tubget.com, at some point I'll update the video, for now I'll just note it in the description.
@bebedotno - I've found powerpoint has it's issues here as well, but its not quite as drastic. I haven't experimented with the latest version of keynote so it might be more seamless now.
Here's something even easier: once you download the video, put it through Handbrake. Then you can drag it to iTunes, and it will save there, and you can just add it from there.
go to my channel and look at my video, it explains how to do everything and it even allows you to DOWNLOAD (keep the video as a personal file) and use it for whatever you wish without any issues at all
thanks for the vid. Since i dont wanna pay for converting videos i downloaded Real player converter, and converter to an ipad format, then i added it to itunes and from keynote click on media, itunes library (video) and boom...
wow, i will check and try this, i used to use the third party software which named anesoft to converter the videos to itunes, as keynote accept all itunes format, and that works too. :)
@Forevaitalia I don't know if you still need help with this but just in case this is what I did: I got up to the point where you have to save as a Quicktime file and was unable to b/c I didn't have Pro. Frustrated, I began looking for alternatives and found Tooble just Google it and you will fine the download. It's free and incredibly easy just download the program, copy the URL and it downloads the video to iTunes where you can easily import to Keynote. If you have any problems let me know.
Strange. After you double click the file in "Activity" try clicking on Window --> Downloads to see if the Downloads window was maybe hidden behind another window.
I was not able to download from Perian. Is there something wrong with their website? Also- I was not able to double-click and save from "activity" in Safari but was able to find a plug in to allow me to download form Firefox. So I now have the .flv file, but no coverter into Quicktime. Advice?
I have recently been experiencing this problem as well. I've also noticed that the video file that downloads is just "video" not "get_video" like it used to be. After doing a bit of digging it looks like YouTube may have changed the format to increase security of people downloading the full video. The older videos still seem to work. I am hoping a new version of Perian will fix this problem. Cheers.
As long as they have quicktime installed on the computers at your school it should work. They don't need to have Perian on the computers in the room. You only need perian to do the conversion to get it into keynote. Hope this helps.
will this work on the computer at school..they are all using Microsoft Word 2007. i used to use my dad's PC to embedd a youtube video on my powerpoint....it's easy and it works at school too (Powepoint for Mac)....
What if PIERAN is not installed in the room i will do my presentation on? will the video still work?

This method has been working fine for me for a long time.
One thing you might want to keep in mind is that the video has to be clicked and playing for you to find it in the activity file.
If you don't find it in the activity file, go back to the youtube video, press the play button, then look for it again in the activity file.

Most of probably aren't going to pay thirty dollars for Quicktime Pro. Instead, just download HandBrake for free and convert the video there.
