  • Ха-ха-ха! WTF at 05:33 ??? :)))

  • Sherlock Holmes is such a classic that people don't think "haha brits", they think "haha sherlock holmes"

  • at 9:54 holmes is a pervert!

  • "And call seargent Baskerville, with the dog!" Lolz sherlock holmes and the hound of baskerville.

  • whats up with the please man hmming Greensleves at 6:00 ?

  • this reminds me of a 1965 italian cartoon "west and soda" hilarious :)

  • Wahaha! Aaargh! This is really good! Hilarious!

  • The colorful chalk outline is hilarious =3

  • The creators of this Sherlock Holmes must have had Gene Siskel as Holmes and Roger Ebert as Watson in mind. They would have made a perfect Holmes and Watson.

  • @hamletmiss Haha. The creators of this cartoon were inspired by Soviet TV series starring Vasily Livanov as Sherlock Holmes and Vitaly Solomin as Dr.Watson.

  • That is some pretty dark humour there.

  • шикарный мультфильм - очень красиво, детально, качественно нарисованы персонажи и фоны и очень забавный юмор :D

  • Art style of these cartoons is so Monty Python.

  • حضور للعرب هنا

كالعادة حضور بلا فعالية فقط للحظور

  • @shabibnasser هناك عرب في هذا الفيديو؟

  • Shoot a man for using his knife and fork in the 'wrong' hands= now really, that's taking etiquette too far! Emily Post would not approve!

  • ''its a suicide gentelman...........typical suicide''' hahahaha!! xD

  • The best Sherlock Holmes is Russian (Vasily Livanov),the best screen version of "Sherlock Holmes" is Russian version, the best cartoon about Sherlock Holmes is,as it turned out,Russian too.Englishmen, where are you?Or Russians are most "sherlockian" nation?I have to say, this animation is true art.I love everything about it:style,drawing,voices,humour...Russian animators are creative, talanted and outstanding. But we,in Europe still watching Disney shit.

  • Hi Niffiwan,

I thought I would counter some of the unfair negative things said about your film to say that I loved it! Completely obserd but wonderfully so. So many little bits and pieces of mock Englishness and tongue in cheek Holmes that made it very funny.

Well done and I, and I'm sure the 620 other people who clicked like, look forward to your next Sherlock and Watson film!

  • @dancingpotplant The next one is actually being made currently, as funding was recently found. (I'm not the director, though!)

  • @Niffiwan That is excellent news, I hadn't heard anything in a while and decided to see where the project was. I wasn't surprised that the money situation had stalled, but it was still disappointing, I was trying to figure out a way to contribute, I was hoping he would have a paypal account. Anyhoo I still want to contribute, because I would love to someday actually get a good quality copy of both the first and second films, but I have to figure out bank transfers I suppose.

  • @UrinationNation You can keep up with the latest news by following his livejournal account - "bubnoff". It's in Russian, but with an automatic translator you might be able to understand something. The current situation is that he is leaving Moscow, and going back to Kiev. He is founding a new studio there which is to be called "Buben", and hiring (or has hired) some employees to get this film finished in the context of a proper production.

  • This is absolutly adorable <3

  • Best films about Sherlock made in Russia! (USSR).

The photograph of Livanov as Sherlock Holmes is said to be the largest of those gracing the walls of the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Baker Street.

Vasily Borisovich Livanov is one of the most easily recognizable Russian and Soviet film actors, a screenwriter, a voice actor and the only one to receive an Order of the British Empire (of the second degree, for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes).

  • this is awsome i relly like it my favorite character is lord waterbrook cause he is just soo funny and JPLOWMAN2 im not traying to make you change your opinion but sherlock holmes body is like that cause thats the style of the cartoon they do it like that on porpouse (im sorry but my english is terrible im not american)

  • wow some people here just don't understand the humor in it....! it's a russian cartoon, remember that. russian cartoon, russian humor. just chill and watch it, and you might laugh.

  • this is just exellent! Exellent!

  • Sgt. Baskerville with the dog? LOL!

Awesome cartoon and a wonderful parody. Thx for the uploading. :)

  • 5:37 hahahaha!!!

  • That was *hilarous*!

  • Poor Lestrade to 8:57

  • Mother of GOD I love Vasily's voice!

  • @BarnabasFrid

Its not Livanov's voice. But the voice actor tries his best =)

  • ЗдОрово )

  • Can one imagine Gene Siskel as Sherlock Holmes and Roger Ebert as Dr. Watson? I sure can!

  • The makers of this cartoon must have thought of Gene Siskel in a cap and cape as Sherlock Holmes and Roger Ebert as the overeating Dr. Watson. They would be perfect in these roles, and acted that way on TV.

  • Wasza zajebistość :)

  • This was just hilarious. Love the almost but not quite parody of it. And the constable with the chalk? Brilliant.

  • it was sooo funny :D

  • This is GREAT!!!

  • Довольно тонкий сарказм, достойный оригинального произведения.

  • @GraspingReality hahahahaha wait you're wrong hahahahaha but nice try, watch part 2 for the thrilling conclusion of all the ways you were wrong.

  • Hehee! hilarious! first thing that made me laugh out loud was the policemen making those artistic chalk markings XD

  • was this intended for kids? lol

  • Never.

  • a little crude but very well made and funny

i will like to see thing like this in american animation, aslo i hope to see more russian animation

  • I love this animation, it is genuine work of art!

  • That person doesn't speak a word of Russian; s/he was just attempting to reach out to Russian-speakers in the only option available, which was automatic translation. If you want to keep everyone except your inner circle at a distance though, yes, the correct way to act is to hurl invectives at them like you just did.

  • cool cartoon :D

  • What a beautifully done tribute! You have a great deal of affection for the stories to make such striking adaptation!

Какая красиво сделанная дань! Вы имеете большую привязанность к историям, чтобы сделать такую поразительную адаптацию!

  • I love how when the bullet bounces off his head, there's this horrified silence and Sherlock Holmes keeps eating. XD

    That is true genius!!!

    "It's a bullet!"

And now I quote, "No @$%& sherlock!" :)

  • 5/5 its awesome. Just awesome. I dont see how you cant like this piece of art!

  • OMG, i totally agree. it has such a sense of humour and the drawings and animation are just awesome!

  • Russian cartoons have always and still do scare the fuck out of me.

  • Try watching "The Lodgers of an Old House". If that scares you, well... you're hopeless. :)

  • xDD Hitman 47 was the killer !!

  • this is a awsome cartoon

  • this is wonderful!!!!! :D

  • Where can I find more episodes of this? :)

  • good job! i love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol! i love 6:00 - 6:15 xD

  • I loved it. Thanks for uploading ;-)

  • It's supposed to be funny, not according to the book!

Also, they reference Conan Doyle several times. Lol. :)

  • This is good! Don't question humour- I'm a fan-atic, I love this. Silly person.

  • Regarding Holmes' body: I assume you have the same objection to all other non-proportionate cartoon characters? Regarding the bullet: the other objects slowed it down, and the last object was a glass window which required little velocity to go through. Regarding the policemen: Aren't they always? Regarding the talking dead people: got me there. Regarding you not liking it: I'm sorry too.

I'd also like to reiterate that Aleksandr Bubnov is the director, not me.

  • eeehhmm.... you know something called HUMOR SENSE? it consist in distorting proportions, alter physical laws, and make funny of serious topics. And do it concienciously.

At diference of some american movies (that try to be serious and the ignorance of physycal laws make it funny) this cartoon try to be funny and really is. At least for me.

  • Ummmmm.......ever heard of HUMOR? They're blown out of proportion for HUMOR. This is a kids cartoon not a serious movie for adults. And dont go saying things like russians seem to have very wierd interpretations of Sherlock Holmes, insinuating that they're stupid when they're not. I happen to be Russian, and I was very offended by that remark. If you hate Russians or their definition of humor, then keep it to yourself. By the way, there are Disney cartoons with characters blown out of proportion

  • Sorry guys but i cant help it; i just dont like this cartoon

  • if you think that Russians trying to piss you off or insult Sherlock try ti search for "Sherlock Holmes - Russian TV-series" . This is series based on the book in many aspects

  • @JPLOWMAN2 Are you serious, or do you really have no sense of humour at all?

Maybe you just don't know how cartoons work? When you see The Lion King, do you complain about how lions aren actually able to talk, and that they don't look realistic at all?

    Suspend your disbelief!

  • @JPLOWMAN2 I know it's 2 years ago, but that was not sarcasm? Are you retarded?

  • Elementary :)

  • Great cartoon. Great subtitles!

  • this is a great to learn Russian!!

  • Magnifico.

  • im glad that the colors are not so bright.

  • I may not know Russian but I do know that this is a great cartoon!

  • I like the humour in this!!Cunningly satirical of a legendary detective figure! I had no idea russian cartoons are of such good quality. I've watched so many the last few weeks and I'm astonished there was russian animation even in 1913!

  • I know, people say that Japanese animation is the best foreign animation but Russian animation is absolutely INCREDIBLE!

  • This is all done for HUMOR. Russians don't actually think that of brits. They just did it for good old humor, and it's just a kids cartoon. And actually, tons of people who speak English (Britian, Canada, USA, etc.) have an EXTREMELY horrible view of what Russian people are. Russians are hated for some reason, even though it is a wonderful country with great people, an amazing language, and fascinating history. Russians dont hate you, you hate them, so you just HAD to write a comment like that.

  • @universitygirl647 Why explain the obvious.

  • @universitygirl647

Many people in those countries still think that modern Russians stand in long lines to buy bread! haha, how naive.

  • as good as you can get ;D

  • I WISH I COULD GO TO MOSCOW SOMTIMES

  • lovely and funny! dasvidanya comrade!

  • a well thought humour!

  • ofcourse russian humor is thought over before performed or told, Americans do jackass stuff.

  • cool

  • omg, the constable with the chalk humming greensleeves had me nearly crying. XDDDD

i love how the comedy can transcend the language!

  • I guess this is how British do it.

  • so funny! cutiest animation ))

очень забавно, миленько и смешно. Увидела это в первый раз благодаря вам. Спасибо.

  • and why are we talking about languages? Great cartoon.......humor is as delicate as a bulldozer, but very funny nevertheless. Russian humor always requires a little bit of thinking, and thats why i think its some of the best

  • hahahah, poor inspector,u can c the funny side of sherlock holmes in this cartoon.hahahahaha

  • Never read Conan Doyle?! for shame, constable! :) Hehe! this is great! They did a really good job animating the stains on the tablecloth!

  • it's awesome=))

  • great stuff :)

  • Excellent parody of the Russian Sherlock movies with Livanov and Solomin.

  • Man this brings back memories. Excellent parody of the Russian Sherlock movies with Livanov and Solomin.

  • ive never seen anything more weird.

  • That's part of the humor. Everything happens oppositely of what one would expect in a typical, logical Holmes adventure.

  • great!!

    priviet from brazil

  • Funny story, good characters, great animation, fantastic music, fine voices for the characters and well, lovely language...

  • i wish i could learn russian...

  • Rather unconventional sense of humor ;-) Never saw Holmes & Watson in this light. Just hope that kids will get it.

  • Hey, these caracters are ironic replicas of Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson russian movie( from late 70s I think). It had many viewers in the UK and even the English Queen awarded the Sherlock Holmes actor - V. Livanov for being the most accurate Sherlock Holmes caracter ever. So all this comes from that movie, including the Holmes' cacaracter's voice. Watching the movie may help to understand the irony.

  • Of course! I can't believe I didn't hear the resemblance right away. That makes it only so much funnier.

  • Nah, don't say that, every language has its colour...

  • Russian is the best language in the world. Cept english is much more useful and universal, but FUCK that.

  • actually...english is one of the most complicated...once you learn about two or three other languages, you'll realize. I believe, that if you get past the alphabet (which is even easier when you learn compared to english) japanese is much easier, one of the easiest.

  • I know RUssian and and German, and English is easier than both of them..

  • i was comparing english in general..not to a specific language...but it is harder than many languages...english has the most exceptions to grammatical rules that we dont think about...other languages have irregularities...english just has more than most

  • Still its one of the easiest and obviously most useful language.

  • ЖЖешь сцуко ))

    (are you kidding ?)))

  • I agree with Antonkvit, in English you don't have to conjugate adjectives and the conjugation of verbs is less affected. I say English is easier, particularly and with it being so widespread in the media, quite easy compared to other languages.

  • That depends. UK is a small country, Australia is staying alone in its corner, and in US the English usage is decreasing rapidly, due to Spanish immigrants.

Its said that only about 13% of worlds population are natively taught English, and the number is diminishing with each year.

  • where do you get those facts, and why do you sound like you're disturbed by them?

  • creep!

  • nope. english is one of the simpliest languages to learn. russian is really complicated, but if you want a real stuff try finnish or estonian, or even better hungaryan...

  • Accually, English is a really hard language to learn. It has the most irregulars of any lauguage that is widely known (at least to my knowledge)

Me and my friends did this for a skit a few days ago, it got quite a bit of lols.

  • Of course some languages are more difficult then other ones, but I think it also depends on where you are from. For example, I'm from Holland so German and English are very easy for me (especially German looks and sounds a lot like Dutch)

French is harder to master because the grammatical rules are(completely) different.

But you can hear those languages very often here and I think that's why they are easier to learn.

I also try to learn Russian and that is really difficult.

  • +1 English is historically simplified. It lacks the things that make other languages hard, like gender for the non-living objects, cases, etc. I speak Russian and German, and English is nothing like them in complexity.

  • I agree with You!

  • it's not that bad, trust me :)

  • Glad this was put back up, it was hilarious.
