  • With the pedal it sounds like you threw a wet blanket over the amp???

  • I like it better stock. Sounds more open and cleaner, but it's hard to tell from a cheap camera mic.

  • Sweet sound! And really nice Tele you got there. I was wondering...is this amp loud enough for gigs also or is it only for a studio or house practices? I want to get one badly but since it's only 22w I thought I is going to be too small for gigs at bigger places. Thanks for the demo man, really good sound you got.

    Peace.

  • @davfrj Im sure you have decided but I have buddies that gig with these constantly. Any where that you need more than like say 20 tube watts will be mic'd 90% of the time anyway. Now if you want clean headroom at gig volumes without it being mic'd????? I don't know that may be close. It will be loud as hell but around 11-12 its gonna start to slightly break up but I am going to say it will be loud enough. I run 2 amps anyway. 1 low watter for my dirt, 50 watt bassman for cleans.

  • Noiice guitar playing!

  • see the twitching of his foot

  • Nice harmonics on the amp when pushed with the overdrive.

  • Nice sounds!

  • u dont need a marshall stack unless ur frequently playing big gigs, its better to turn a fender reverb on like 8 than a marshall stack on 2

  • @arsenalfanforlife i have both and trust me they are not the same amp.( no matter the eq or volume) both are awesome sounding amps though

  • sounds waaaaaaayy tooooooooooo compressssssssed. Great for country and long thick solos but thats about it from what I can hear.

  • Nice Twangy sound!!! Pretty Bitey

  • That sounds pretty bloody sweet.

  • "how good it can sound" is a relative thing. Good to one might be crap to another. I think the stock unit with a speaker upgrade can sound pretty nice with the right tubes in place depending on what you're looking for in tone

  • would rather just click a compression pedal when i need the country twang and sustain. seems like a shame to irreversably change the whole personality of the amp.

  • But it's just a run of the mill DR re-issue....anything you can do to wake those up is probably ok. Compare a RI to an original. RI pretty dull.

  • how can it be dull when the circutry is exactly the same a common misconception is that point to point wired amps sound diffrent than the same amp with a pcb it just isnt true and in a blind test you wouldnt be able to tell the two apart

  • You are probably right. I have played through and owned a few RI plus a few old ones. RI seem ok, but when I plug into one now it seems kinda dull. Speaker? Not sure where I get that impression other than just playing through a bunch of them. My old one has been modded slightly, has real good tubes and a Celestion. Probably just dig mine a lot.

  • @bloozelover PCB and P2P do sound differently, its science. In simple terms, when a bunch of stuff is wired together on a plane, it creates a resistor which reduces harmonics.

  • there may be a difference, but I think that people forget that the originals have been around for 40-50 years now, and have had plenty of time to break in.

  • too much compression from 1:00 to 1:40

  • sweet sound and playing

  • they can add it to any amp on ebay, google their website.

also i've seen a couple of already modded amps on ebay

  • Is this sustain mod specifically for the deluxe reverb? Or could this be added to any amp? Also...how much?

  • do you think it is better tone using the vibrato or normal input?

  • depends dude...if you like reverb then use vibrato...

  • What exactly does the modification do?

  • what does this mod change?

  • Hey Bro....sounds great as always!! Rick (Celestion)

  • This indeed an amazing tone...! What kind of guitar are you playing? Pickups? etc..?

I sold my Deluxe Reverb last summer and after hearing this I am hoping to buy it back and have you mode it for me..

    Beautiful tone..!

    Thanks for posting this.

    Christopher

  • I have one...they really need to be mic'd--as do most amps. This one is loud as hell but you will get masked with a whole loud band.

But you really want to mic any amp if expect to have any kind of mix. At practice you could put it up on a table and position it in a spot so every can hear you

  • Would you say that amp is loud enough for a band set up cause isnt it only like 22 watts

  • yes. It's tube.

wattage doesn't matter with tube amplifiiers.

At least not to the same extent.

  • well wattage dosent matter because the human ear percieves 3db as a doubleing in volume and a 50 watt tube amp is only 10% louder than a 5 watt tube amp so yes 22 watts would be more than enough for a band set up

  • @bloozelover not 10% because 5watt is 100% in case of a 5 watt amp then 50 watt is 10*100.

  • That is a bunch of BS. Put a 50 watt plexi next to a deluxe reverb and the deluxe will sound literally half as loud as the plexi. On paper yes, doubling the power will only increase volume by 3db, but in real world applications its far from the truth.

  • ok you do that put a plexi and a deluxe side by side i dont know why i can use a 5 watt amp unmiked at a gig and it works great when all you other people have to have 50 watts to be able to play at gigs

  • I never said I gig with a 50 watt plexi, or a deluxe reverb at that matter. I'm simply talking about a comparison that has been done with my fellow friend musicians. 5 watts is great for a quiet club or a coffee shop, or a medium club where you don't need any clean headroom, but the point of higher wattage is clean headroom in my book. Sorry, 5 watts wont cut it. Besides 5 watt amps just sound puny in comparison. Larger transformers provide larger tones. Its just the nature of the beast.

  • large transformers dont mean large tone ussualy the puny tone of a small amp comes from the puny speaker and its encloser run a 5 watt class A tube amp through a 4x10 cab and tell me it has puny tone low wattage can be used to play large venues and not sound puny brad paisly uses a 18 watt dr z amp has monster tone

  • what ever makes you sleep at night homie.

  • Run em through the same 4x12 cab and they will be pretty close. Speaker efficiency/ size/ number of speakers plays a large role as well.

  • efficiency more so then anything else.

  • I guess. But if I have a 4x12 of moderately efficient speakers and you have one 12in highly effective speaker, I'm still moving more air than you.

  • What your actually doing with a lower efficiency rating 4X12 is moving more air via the surface of the cabinet (surface area) which is why it can sound bigger, but not necessarily louder. A 1X12 with a very efficient speaker penetrates better which is why it can stand out more in the mix or sound bright/harsh/piercing in the wrong application. A 4X12 is not necessarily louder then a 1X12. It just can have the ability of sounding fuller. That is why speaker efficiency is what really counts.

  • @clehneis I had rather run this amp, (setup if you will), and drive the tubes with more volume properly mic'd if necessary with a quality mic of course. I agree with you both to a degree, I agree that you're pushing more air but is it the same quality? I just prefer to push the tubes if in that setting and it still sounds great at home when played there at lower volumes. That's why I like the Mesa LoneStar Special over the 100W LoneStar. That's just my opinion, our ears like different tones.

  • Oh and wattage really counts when more speakers are added. Say you have a 100 watt amp and a 50 watt amp. Run both of them through a 1X12 and they both sound pretty much just as loud. Run them both through a full stack and the 100 watt will be much louder. The extra wattage allows the amp to push all of the speakers more efficiently than the 50 watter.Thats why a deluxe will sound quieter than a 50 watt amp through the same 4X12. Because of the 50's ability to drive the speakers better.

  • Delightful - a pleasure to listen to. A shame I will never be able to to have a mod on a DR as I am in UK... So I make do with my Super Champ XD for my BF tones (!). However, at least I have found a trick to enhance its stock tone to something very, very passable...

  • I'm considering having Benjamin Fargen do a DRRI rebuild at some point in the future. The only real bone of contention is which option to choose for the normal channel, the tweed circuit or the vox?

  • Hello,

I commented on how great this amp sounds a few months ago thinking you were someone that had these mods done to your amp.. now I am realizing that you are the person that does the mods... I would love to have these mods done to my Fender Deluxe Reverb amp... is this something you would and how much will it cost me?

    Thank you for your assistance,

    Christopher

  • $1200.00

  • Fantastic Tone..!

What kind of guitars were you playing?

How much did the mods cost you..?

I may have mine done as well..

    Sounds amazing!

    Kudos from Vancouver Canada,

    Christopher

  • really beautiful sound, i plan on getting a DRRI soon

  • Great tone mate! That mod, what is it it did exactly?
