You have to remember... Even if you had a 28K modem, the best speeds you could ever expect to see was about 3K. My bro is reminding me about our 1200 baud that would d/l 100k in an hour! Which, if you calculate it, comes out to around 0.2K. There was a graphical indication that showed you the data coming in. Extremely slow.
its flying off of shelves due to peoples uneducated minds and ads that appeal to people just because 1 guy says its cool and knowone else knows there is 1000000000X better out there. The same logic used to sell consoles that are outdated and overpriced.
@MrMakeman dude, in that time the games used to send and receive only position data, and the buffer was of only one byte wich was of 255 char possible to be compared to a table of things to "happen" like "A" for kill, "B" for level up, "C" for getting some item...
the most heavy thing was the "chat" modules in the games...
HAHA WUUUOOOPP ! AND THE BOYS EVEN DREAM WITH HAVE THEIR 28KBPS MODEM AND OF COURSE THEIR PEDO KIDDY PORN ? ON 1995? I DONT THINK SO ! LOL ENJOY YOUR MOOOUUSSEE PAAAADD AND PLAY SMW OF SNES !
I remember buying my first Zoltrix 28.8K modem for $1 at the grand opening of Canada Computers (on Kennedy rd); I started lining up at 2 a.m. in the morning lol
No kid was given a laptop in the '90s. Like cell phones, they were a luxury to most people and the only types of people who had them were IT workers and some businessmen.
It was actually better to have 300 baud than nothing. It was good enough for e-mail containing rich text. Course, it would take an hour to get to a modern e-mail homepage at that speed.
I think I have everyone beat. After Commodore 64's there were Amiga's, then came the first pentium. I bought my first 25MHZ computer for over a thousand dollars. It came with a 2400 baud dial up modem. It used to take me 5 minutes to download a naked picture. LOL
My first PC was an IBM PCXT which had a 4.77Mhz CPU, 256Kb of RAM, 1 160Kb floppy drive and a monochrome (Hercules) "graphics" card. It cost me around $4200. Back then, if you wanted a modem it cost around $1000. But there was no such thing as BBS's or the internet back then.
I upgraded that to 640Kb and a 10Mb hard drive, and it cost me just shy of $1100.
um, these kids probably weren't even born when 28k modems were the standard. My first computer had a 14K internal modem(1995).
Good attempt at remaking an older style commercial but, I don't think the announcers would run into walls or yell with their hands in their pockets. Try again.
WHO CARES ABOUT THE MODEM.
I WANT THAT MOUSE PAD!!! IT'S BLOWING MY MIND... A FREE MOUSE PAD!!!!!!!!!! FREE!!! YES YOU HEARD ME RIGHT, FREEEEEEE!

You're not funny. You were never old enough to even know how modems were used.
I used 56k until 2006, so don't come yelling at me. The thing was awesome, and the dial tone made it even more rememberable.

@JDalpha22 I'm sure you wasn't talking to me but if so please know that I've always used 56k modems untill our currant computer.

this add must be fake if your running win2k (or poss XP). The "gradient" blue up the top of windows was a feature for then
Still, 10 points for 80's style cheeziness. could easy pass for a real ad. Scary thinking ads were actually in this style
speddie2 2 years ago
the horizontal blue gradient was there in 95 or 98 i think, in XP they changed it to an almost solid blue bar.
I've never used 2000, so i can't say about that.
