I'm not sure what happened to Augeri after that, or if he's singing again but I liked him very much. Never, no one, as much as I loved Steve Perry. But it does seem that Neal has had issues with every vocalist he's ever played with. This version sounds weak compared to Perry's, but all we have is the CD & the video he did.

He had (has) so many other talents besides "The Voice" & his livelihood didn't & doesn't depend on singing/touring. Can't say the same for the rest of them. HE didn't go broke like Neal & Ross Valory did and financially, I think he's always been very savvy & is sitting just fine.

Steve Augeri is a really nice man, but its hard telling where the pitch will end; up, down, side ways, or some where over the rainbow. Imitating the best means needing to be as good as the original not someone trying to sound like the best.

Friends, I have been a Journey fan since 1978. I've seen them with Augeri and now Arnel. I wasn't sold on Arnel before i saw them but now...wow. He is unbelieveable. We will always love S.P. he was the original. But if I closed my eyes 3 weeks ago it was Steve Perry singing--but even stronger and sharper. It was crazy how good Arnel was, now I know why Neal wanted him. If you love SP but have a chance to see them do it.
I love Steve Perry but he isn't coming back to Journey. I saw Arnel and was impressed and he does the songs justice and I would see Jourrney with Arnel anytime. And I am a Journey Fan who has seen Journey with Steve Perry about 10 times

I don't like either Augeri or Pineda's version. IMHO Pineda's version of this one sounds better. However, both of 'em in my humble opinion make a song that seemed like a spiritual act by Perry with his heart and soul and his Perry touch, look horrible. With all due respect to Augeri, I feel hurling when I hear this rendition. It seems amateurish. Don't mean to offend Augeri fans.
OK, I'm going to vent a little and before I do, I apologize:
1.) Augeri is an incredible performer. Sure, he may not be able to hit the incredible notes that Steve Perry could hit, but remember sometimes PERRY couldn't even hit his notes. A lot of his amazing songs, like this one, are works of studio processes.
2.) SOMEONE had to fill Perry's shoes. If someone didn't step up people would be upset about THAT, so Augeri deserves credit for that. Remember, PERRY left Journey, not the other way...
I agree 100%. Although I think Augeri is a capable vocalist, no one and I mean NO ONE will ever take the place of Steve Perry. When he sang he poured his heart and soul into last note, and wrote some incredible lyrics. Shame that Schon basically screwed him over.
Agreed...Deen has a much more aggressive drumming style, kind of like Eric Carr of Kiss. Plus, Deen's a great vocalist too...Steve Smith can't sing at all.
Journey without Steve Perry is like Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. Van Halen without David Lee Roth. The Who without Roger Daltry. Each of these men have been given special gifts and they are the reason why we began listening to the music in the first place.
Steve Perry was right that Neal Schon fractured the stone because people are now so divided over Journey. Some of the new fans like Journey, but a huge chunk of the 80s rock crowd and some new fans think it's sacrilege what happened. I agree. A rock n roll hall of fame kind of guy was basically stepped on in a sad way.
I think people should be just thankful that Arnel Pineada is re living the Journey spirit... Keep it alive Arnel... w/out you now the "Journey" might've ended... continue on and SOAR more heights!!!

No offense to anyone here or any singer of Journey.. This version stinks.. IMHO!.. I am sorry.. But it does. Steve Perry is and will always be Journeys lead singer.. Like I said no offense but Journey is still here today cuz of him. Yes Arnel is good. But this younger generation has no idea what steve perry was about. Watch some of his videos.. how passionate he is. Don't anyone please send me any hateful remarks.. I am just using my opinion here. No offense to anyone or frontmen.

Friends, I have been a Journey fan since 1978. I've seen them with Augeri and now Arnel. I wasn't sold on Arnel before i saw them but now...wow. He is unbelieveable. We will always love S.P. he was the original. But if I closed my eyes 3 weeks ago it was Steve Perry singing--but even stronger and sharper. It was crazy how good Arnel was, now I know why Neal wanted him. If you love SP but have a chance to see them do it.

I love Steve Perry but he isn't coming back to Journey. I saw Arnel and was impressed and he does the songs justice and I would see Jourrney with Arnel anytime. And I am a Journey Fan who has seen Journey with Steve Perry about 10 times

lucky you... I am only 22 but am a great Journey fan, i also got to see Arnel and Journey here in PHX. He is amazing, thought there is a slight difference it was beautiful.
i would give anything to see Steve Perry live. He has the best voice there is.

There is NO ONE nor will there ever be anyone who can sing this song like Steve Perry...NO ONE..not even the new singer Arnel..he comes close but just isn't quite there...but this one here sucks!

for curiousity's sake i was able to watch a few of sp videos 'coz i haven't heard of him back then and i'm not interested of seeing more 'coz there aint any that would interest me...i don't dig old stuffs actually , i'm satisfied w/ AP being Journey's frontman and he's untoppable for me 'coz of his versatility and exuberance w/c sp lacks, IMHO!!!

I watched a live video on arnel singing this song and I sure the hell dont remember seeing a outstanding ENERGETIC performance of it! You must be deaf and blind because in perrys video of this song not only do you see the powerful perfomance you feel it and thats what arnel lacks with this song and many others!!!

steve augeri gave a stellar performance every night they played,steve perry was good but i like the way that augeri did the songs justice.now for arnel,they had to key the songs down.if they would have done that for augeri,maybe he would still be there.i miss steve augeri

i've seen augeri live 3 times, he saved this band and helped create 2 more fantastic albums, it is sad that perry had to part ways, yet augeri was maybe the only one who could fill those shoes!!!!!!!!

I don't like either Augeri or Pineda's version. IMHO Pineda's version of this one sounds better. However, both of 'em in my humble opinion make a song that seemed like a spiritual act by Perry with his heart and soul and his Perry touch, look horrible. With all due respect to Augeri, I feel hurling when I hear this rendition. It seems amateurish. Don't mean to offend Augeri fans.

OK, I'm going to vent a little and before I do, I apologize:
1.) Augeri is an incredible performer. Sure, he may not be able to hit the incredible notes that Steve Perry could hit, but remember sometimes PERRY couldn't even hit his notes. A lot of his amazing songs, like this one, are works of studio processes.
2.) SOMEONE had to fill Perry's shoes. If someone didn't step up people would be upset about THAT, so Augeri deserves credit for that. Remember, PERRY left Journey, not the other way...

I agree 100%. Although I think Augeri is a capable vocalist, no one and I mean NO ONE will ever take the place of Steve Perry. When he sang he poured his heart and soul into last note, and wrote some incredible lyrics. Shame that Schon basically screwed him over.

Agreed...Deen has a much more aggressive drumming style, kind of like Eric Carr of Kiss. Plus, Deen's a great vocalist too...Steve Smith can't sing at all.

Steve Perry was right that Neal Schon fractured the stone because people are now so divided over Journey. Some of the new fans like Journey, but a huge chunk of the 80s rock crowd and some new fans think it's sacrilege what happened. I agree. A rock n roll hall of fame kind of guy was basically stepped on in a sad way.
