I would think that there would be less camera shake in a zero-gravity environment. Astronauts have superhuman steady-cam arms don't you know? :) Nice work though.
When humans are in orbit about Mars I would think we would want to do it when the two planets are at their "closest" distance with each other. However, even then, radio transmissions will be delayed. The time difference will be ~10 min when a msg is sent from Earth to the manned spacecraft and other 10 mins for the spacecraft to send its msg back to Earth.
The only way I'd like this video more is if it had really happened. The shot of Mars through the window with part of the ship in view gives me chills.

Excellent, though to achieve the full effect, wouldn't the camera shake less since they're in space? At least I thought the original film from the Apollo missions was. I understand the cinematographic reasoning behind the shaking - to give the effect of similar shaky footage from the era - but there are a few instances where it's a bit much considering the astronauts' arms aren't weighed down by the camera in space. Otherwise an excellent and convincing 'what if' Apollo-era Mars mission video.
Actually, no, because the have to constantly fight against the twitching of their muscles increasing the momentum of the camera. Since there is no weight, every slight bump causes the camera to move - so, if anything, the camera would shake MORE, not less.
This was Von Braun's real goal for Apollo, not just the moon. Sadly we have been stuck in Low Earth Orbit, and now even that future is not looking positive. We should be to Europa by now. Not putting science on the backburner, and left to wonder if we are even going to have a way into orbit in the coming years.

EXCELLENT! But...to nit-pick. First, 8mm film has an aspect ratio of about 4:3 (4.8:3.5 to be exact), not wide screen (OK, could have been cut to fit, but...) Second, 8mm has the sprocket holes on the side of the frame, not top-bottom and it only has one set. Otherwise, Fing awesome! Trust me, back in the day, I made 8mm movies, but nothing even close to this. :)
You should make a manned mission to Jupiter like in 2001, and use Station astronauts or shuttle astronauts instead of Apollo astronauts. Lotta video on Shuttle and station astronauts.
You know, if the Apollo Program wasn't cancelled and NASA was given the funding it had in the Apollo Program, NASA could have announced A Mars Mission by the 1980's, that would 100% boost Publicity.
It made me realise just how lonely the crew would feel looking down on a lifeless* planet with at least a 23minutes comms delay with the folks back home.
Again awesome work! I love how you used the close-up images! One nitpick: that last crater totally gave it away for me. Scale is not right (it's a small crater, wouldn't be nearly as big trough the window) and I've seen that image for so many times now.
Oh and the Music is a bit cheesy. I think the atmo you have at the beginning is more powerful.
But a great idea and technically a superb execution.

love the way the moon is so close to the earth at the start, like the earth is bearing down on it and you wonder " how come it' so close" but without knowledge you see the apogee in the next fram when it has a rotation. this is an awesome job, and very well thought out. proprs to you. this is awesome work indeed.

EXCELLENT! But...to nit-pick. First, 8mm film has an aspect ratio of about 4:3 (4.8:3.5 to be exact), not wide screen (OK, could have been cut to fit, but...) Second, 8mm has the sprocket holes on the side of the frame, not top-bottom and it only has one set. Otherwise, Fing awesome! Trust me, back in the day, I made 8mm movies, but nothing even close to this. :)

You should make a manned mission to Jupiter like in 2001, and use Station astronauts or shuttle astronauts instead of Apollo astronauts. Lotta video on Shuttle and station astronauts.

You know, if the Apollo Program wasn't cancelled and NASA was given the funding it had in the Apollo Program, NASA could have announced A Mars Mission by the 1980's, that would 100% boost Publicity.

Again awesome work! I love how you used the close-up images! One nitpick: that last crater totally gave it away for me. Scale is not right (it's a small crater, wouldn't be nearly as big trough the window) and I've seen that image for so many times now.
Oh and the Music is a bit cheesy. I think the atmo you have at the beginning is more powerful.
But a great idea and technically a superb execution.
