My brother has a beagle-rescued from a laboratory-she has the tatoo number under her ear-and to be brutally honest, she's a real pain in the -ss. She will knock down his garbage and root through it, eat anything and everything, including paper towels, which is real mess on the way out. She howls when she isn't getting 100% attention. I mean, she's cute, but very high maintenance.
I love my beagle and I would get another one in a heartbeat even with the some of the issues we have had with her. I have never heard her howl but the first time she saw a rabbit I thought someone was killing her.
My partner and I volunteer at a non-kill shelter.
We both agree that when we move into our own house we are going to buy rescue dogs. I never knew that Beagles get dumped like this. I was under the impression whoever bought a beagle knew what they were getting into. It makes me sad when people buy dogs as if the were just an Items not a living animal.
My partner and I have a plan and are very aware that Beagles can be a hand full but I can not wait to have one of my own :)
I recently rescued a beagle I renamed Ryder. He's not hyper though he lkes to take long walks and he only howls when something catches his attention or at first when I leave. I live in an apartment and leave him in the bathroom so he won't disturb the neighbors. He is doing great he is such a sweet dog!
Loved the video of your Beagle! Did you know there is a new membership site, for Beagle owners and lovers only? Have a look at my Youtube channel for the link.
Having been a member of Colorado Beagle Rescue for over 15 years, I was thrilled to see a beagle win. Then I wondered how many people would go out and get one and then end up in our organization. I have fostered so many and owned and loved so many. Everyone of them went through some obedience with me so they could get a forever home more easily. Thank you NorCal rescue for taking the time to tell people to educate themselves first! All the little beagles would thank them, I know.
I got my beagle from norcal rescue and I have never been happier. I think I saved myself a lot of headache by getting an older beagle, and the people at norcal rescue are super nice :)
I also got lucky and got a less hyper beagle who sleeps all day and only barks at the dog park but my neighbor has one who wont stop barking!!
I really hope people do research about beagles before adopting because they are fun but stubborn!
Henry, the beagle in my lap in this video, was my first foster in Norcal Beagle Rescue. He is an older guy, about 8, and is the sweetest, most mellow, loving dog anyone could wish for. Henry has been adopted and his adoptive family is delighted with him. A big advantage to adopting from a rescue is that many of the animals have been fostered and evaluated in a home situation with kids, other pets, etc. You can go into the adoption with more information than when adopting from a shelter.
Beagle Rescue stand to make alot of money off of this.I went to try to get a rescued black lab and found I could get a pup for cheaper(including 1st shots). With a pup I know the background and can trust the animal a bit more.I just cannot see paying $400.00 for a old dog.
Our adoption fees range from $150-$300. You probably can get a cheaper dog from a back yard breeder...and that is the issue. Backyard breeders are just in it for the profit. Rescues are not funded by gov money. If you go to our site, you will see that we have dogs with issues and a $150 to $300 adoption won't cover the expenses. I just heard about a Yorkie rescue group asking $750...that is crazy.
My dogs, girlfriend, is a beagle lol! Its so silly she climbs the fence and just gets in my yard. She lives down the street. I feel bad for all those abandoned beagles. If i could id get them all loving homes. Its so sad to see dogs abandoned.
I am glad you have that rescue. We need more people like that cuz there are so many animals of all kinds out there who need love.
people should really do research on a breed before they buy a dog. I was a beagle lover as a kid, but when I learned what I handful they could be I just got a lab, which are very managable breed. With the way the internet is today, people don't have an excuse not knowing what they need to about a breed.
Glad to read your comments. So many of our rescues are for that reason. I have never had a problem with all the fosters I have had. You just have to understand the breed and be informed. Labs are great dogs, and I have recommended them to many of my friends...rescue labs of course.
um our beagle is soooo lazy and was not ever really energetic. and he doesn't ever bark. also my brother was 5 and i was 7 when we got him. he's a really good family dog and never attacked us or anything

Our beagle Morgan was an Xmas present that wasn't wanted, and we got His Highness for AUD$50.
Nowadays he spends his time eating, sleeping, and watching Youtube with me.

Sorry I hit the wrong thumb -- I meant to hit the thumb up -- I apologize
I love beagles and those who rescue them
Go Beagles!

I'm sure the rescue group is notmaking money. Their expenses for rescuing these poor dogs far exceed the adoption fees they ask.

I have a Lab -- she is so loving, abedient,
loyal, a great watch dog ---BUT-- she is a
handfull because she just loves people too much and wants to jump up and kiss them.
she means no harm but some people do not understand that she only wants to love them.

Yeah, all beagles are different. My male beagle is a bed dog and chills all day, while my female beagle gets into trouble all the time...
