What good is a cannon shooting at people in cover spread out? This is just the way warfare developed in Europe.
@leongradoazz Its a bit difficult to reload a 5ft, muzzle loading musket while hiding, and with an accurate range of about 40 metres and reloading time of about 45 seconds, there arent a whole lot of places you could hide anyway if you actually wanted to hit something. That being said, this movie is inaccurate anyway.

Redcoats (Ecluding the officers) were made up of 90% Criminals, people in debt, or sentanced to death, making them an incrediablly tough fighting force even without training, they were the scum of english society the other 10% were incrediablly Patriots and volunteers who had no idea about the horror of being a redcoat soldier. In the war of independence it was a different story, the Americans relying on numbers, but it was mostly the same for them too.
Marching lines is a tactic that existed during Ancient times. It was one of the only tactics available to Egypt and the Hittites with the only X Factor being chariots.
You can change up those lines and have the men drill to move around in a line a certain way but... but until the invention of repeating weapons and machine guns, lines were the only way.

The RAF uses the Eurofighter Typhoon, the most advanced fighter jet in active service. The Royal Navy is building two Queen Elizabeth II class aircraft carriers, the most advanced of their time. The British Army has the toughest basic training in the world. The US might have the numbers but the British have the skills.

I was in training for the Grenadiers but left, but yeah there are two English Guards Regiments (Grenadiers and Coldstream (although the Coldstream also recruit in a very small area of Scotland), the Scots Guards, the Irish Guards and the Welsh Guards.

If it was just a gentleman who was in the army to make money he probably wouldn't care, because for him his men were just fodder.

America Does have quite an amazing Military as does the British. But Now that America's foolish Government is cutting the defense budget it might not be as good. Which would be unfourtunate :(

I was in training for the Grenadiers but left, but yeah there are two English Guards Regiments (Grenadiers and Coldstream (although the Coldstream also recruit in a very small area of Scotland), the Scots Guards, the Irish Guards and the Welsh Guards.

my grandfather was Canadian. He was in the Black Watch - Canada's Black Watch. I did not know they had one. Theres a lot of Scottish heritage in Canada. Especially in Nova Scotia... for obvious reasons.
