  • R.i.P Galaxies but a new one shall begin on Star Wars: The old Republic

  • This game had so much potential, and it was just destroyed...Galaxies could have been 10x better than swtor, such a shame...

  • I regret not logging on that day :/

  • I remember some of these players I think I know some of these players used to be nasty to me when I played. Why does it have to be them on this video :P

  • Hay I recognize some of these players I remember Adam guy I think.

  • hay this used to be the sever I used to play on my character was called Arciv Ido if anyone remembers me. I knew allot of the people on this sever.

  • Poor game pushed aside by its younger brother. I hope the guildes and friendships in galaxies will be reborn in the old republic. Sucks for people who made a guilde to something exclusive to galaxies they can't be reborn. Hopefully one day a sequel or remake will be born from the ashes.

  • its sad to see it go..i didnt lay it..but it certainly looked cool...why did it stop?

  • Its intresting to read the ingame chat ;)

  • so sad to see im almost crying :( had the best time of my life in this game :\

  • @pukcip83 Me too I had the best time of my life in this game too once in the early days when i started playing on this sever.

  • SWTOR is WAYY WORSE then SWG

  • It's funny. I played the game on and off pre cu, cu and NGE. In MMO's I've always been a somewhat hardcore PvP'er, but in SWG I had no clue what I was doing. I was just running around, crafting, decorating my House (AWESOME) and socializing and I still had a blast! I did not need to play leet and own up people to have fun in this game. Another thing is that I met plenty of really cool people in SWG, it's community just felt better than all the competitors.

  • I've never played this game, but this seems like a pretty awesome moment to be there, also kind of moving

  • you reytarded geeks should've boughtwow instead. - shitheads

  • If SWG were the same before the NGE, I would be playing it still instead of SWTOR. I miss my Master Powers elder Jedi and my 8 passenger ship Decimator. :(

SWTOR still kind of new. Lets see what else will be added in the future.

  • I wish i moved servers to FarStar. Not a awfuly lot of great players on star sider. I loved radiant best when it was still buzzing :) RQS Darin from Radiant here :)

  • "@mecher3k This video was taken in the NGE. Hey Pre-CU Fanboi, head on over to SWGEmu. We don't need you here. NGE was way better then Pre-CU, and I even played Pre-CU myself. So don't think I don't know what I'm talking about, cause I do. We got way more features now then we did back in 2003-2004. And it's not a WoW replica. There is no other game like this. Not even WoW."

Lol the NGE took away features that were later added fool. NGE was SWG turned into WoW with a star wars skin.

  • hehe die ganzen RDS leude halten die flagge hoch bis zum ende :)

    grüße vom Sveni

  • SWG died in 2005, what we have here is the NGE's death.

    Flagging for misleading title.

  • @mecher3k

"Misleading title" You are a dumbass.

Reported for misuse of the ability to report/flag uploads.

  • @MrRallemulle

Too bad my flagging was real.

  • @mecher3k Your wrong, this is the regular Star Wars Galaxies, There's regular, and EMU

  • @JMB19998

Actually no, real SWG died in 2005.

    This is the NGE.

  • Comment removed

  • @mecher3k There really isn't a difference besides the fact that back then there was no levels, that's it it's still plain old star wars galaxies, if ya find where it literally says NGE next to the name tell me, cause it doesn't call it what ya want

  • @JMB19998

"There really isn't a difference besides the fact that back then there was no levels"

    Uh BULL SHIT.

    You clearly NEVER played SWG.

How about being able to mix professions, experience for different skills not just experience in general, all armor and weapons being useful, etc.

SWG ceased to exist when the NGE was released in 2005, the games are completely different.

  • @mecher3k Besides no levels, and being able to mix classes, there is no difference what so ever except updates and stuff, it doesn't Say Star Wars Galaxies NGE next to it does it? No it doesn't

  • @JMB19998

"Besides no levels, and being able to mix classes,"

Which is about 50% of the gameplay right there.

Especially since NGE reduced the number of professions to 9 or so.

"it doesn't Say Star Wars Galaxies NGE next to it does it? No it doesn't"

Doesn't matter what it's called, only what it actually is. And it sure isn't SWG I bought and played for since shortly after launch until the CU, then for a few weeks before the NGE was ninja revealed to everyone.

  • @mecher3k And no that isn't 50% of it, more like 10% ad then it got updated more and better, all though the no level things would make everyone balanced

  • @JMB19998

No the ability to mix professions was a huge part of SWG's gameplay.

I realize a NGE retard wouldn't understand that.

And NGE made the game better? Yea that's why sub count dropped drastically and continued to drop when it hit? I logged on with a free 14 day trial on my old account, no one was at lagnet.

Yea, compared to SWG where my computer would freeze up.

  • @mecher3k Totally agree this game was awesome I left after they fucked up the game with NGE but still it´s kind of sad to see this. But SOE themselves are responsible for this.

  • swg was great from 03-05. Cu ruined the game.

  • why are tey celebrating when the game is ending???

  • So who finally won the Galactic Civil War in SWG? :) and the Battle of Restuss (OFFICIALLY)

  • That's eerie. 8 years ago SWG began and I remember first playing it in 2006 and stopping in 2009. I remember all the quests I did and all the planets I went to. My house on Naboo, its unfinished decorations. My character that stopped at level 51 Jedi. I haven't played this game in 3 years, but now I miss it now that its gone. I want to finish my character to lvl 90! :(

  • @masterskyrunner it was a btter game when there were no lvls :/ but i agree it was a game of the ages

PATCH 12ish introduced the lvl system and patch 13.1 introduced the class system putting the nail in the coffin

  • @MrDdudeman2405 sadly, i never got to play the game when it was still a supposedly good game

  • So they shut down one of the best online games ever but they can still keep CWA up? Wow soe.... Wow

  • @cjnags123

End of a licensing contract between Lucas and SOE.

Lucas sold it to Bioware/EA for SWTOR (aka WoW in SW universe)

  • I cried. I played the game a few years ago, and... it was such a huge part of my life. I was on Europe Chimaera for my time here... some of the people here made this the best experience of my life. I love you all. RIP SWG.

  • Wow, that was damn sad, I wonder what would happen if they pulled the plug out of the WoW servers.

Playing for over 7 years, So its been a meaning in my life.

  • lol at the guys dancing, thats the spirit haha

  • :O Connection to SWG lost! :'( Damn, I wish I had play the final days of the game :(

  • Je regrette vraiment d'etre passer a coté de ce jeu .

  • I'm going to miss this game :< I really wish they didn't end it ;( I loved the profession system in this game, especially entertainer and trader... I think that even if those ARE in SWTOR, they will be different than the way I loved them :(

  • So did the Rebels or the Empire win?

  • @WookieRebellion501 It's not really about winning at this point. It's about remembering all the good times you had while playing the game, the people you've met, the immersion you've gone through. It's amazing. Much much more in depth than The Old Republic...and forever lost in our memories.... /:

  • @TheVKfan1 True. I remember having a friend. He was my first on SWG. We met near the Mos Eisley spaceport. His name was "T-pain". I miss those days.

  • @WookieRebellion501 Me too, and I was a quite young back then! What has the world come to?...

  • @TheVKfan1 I know right? Every time I remember the times I flew around Tatooine. On missions, different planets. I feel sad that it's shut down. What was the cause of shutting down SWG?

  • @WookieRebellion501 Same. I would assume SOE couldn't afford to keep the servers up, or they thought there would be no demand, and thus, not enough income to keep the servers running. I kinda just repeated myself haha. But, it really sucks. At least there's SWGEmu. :D

  • @TheVKfan1 Because when SOE bought SWG, the changes to the game sucked and therefore people stopped playing the game and then SOE didn't have enough money, right?

I've heard of SWGEmu, it's progressing well, I'm sure the team is going to do great. They just need time.

  • @WookieRebellion501 I thought SOE owned the game all along? I didn't bother to look up the reasons, just guess. But it makes sense they wouldn't have enough money.

I'm gonna try it out, for old time's sake.

  • @TheVKfan1 It's hard to believe that SOE doesn't have a lot of money. Have you played Clone Wars Adventures. Almost every single item you buy is with real money/credit card.

  • @TheVKfan1 They closed it because lucas didnt wont to run two star war mmos at once and the game was closing in 2012 they didnt bother since tor came out. I like tor but i want my galaxies back LOL

  • @Gam3Clock there is swg emu which is almost 100% complete

  • wtfit`s this

  • This was such a sad moment for me, I played that game for over 3 years and it was such a crappy ending to such a wonderful game!

  • Lubben - Farstar

See you in SWGemu, when the new server code is up and running. They've made a lot of progression lately. Then i mean a lot of progressions! They give us weekly updates, i had to scroll a bit today when i read trough all the progressions they've done for this week.

  • @Lubben Any idea when the new server code would be up and running?

  • i bet u when they announced that swg was shutting down in december, alot of chinese farmers went crazy cuz all of those credits that they still had wont bring them anymore money..... haha chinese farmers... u can take your billions of credits and.... deposit into cyberspace cuz thats where its gonna go...

  • RIP SWG, even after NGE you were still better than TOR.

  • @Bubamoos

Star Wars Galaxies: 71/100 on Metacritic

Trials of Obiwan: 69/100 on Metacritic

The Old Republic: 85/100 on Metacritic

ya, keep telling yourself that buddy.

  • @afroebob Those numbers are from prof. reviews (from websites, reporters etc.), but they are still just personal opinion of the reviewer - like everything else in life. Also, even IF you go by what others tell you to think of something (reviews etc.), then at least go by user-ratings, instead of potentially/possibly sponsered (/paid) prof. reviews, which would put SWTOR on (Metacritic): 5.9/10. But to be blank: SWTOR, in its current form, doesn't have _half_ the features that Galaxies did.

  • @AleXy86 you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. User reviews are always terrible because they are clouded by bias. Look at MW3, its not a very good game but the user score on Metacritic for the PC version its a 2.1. And don't try to discredit Metacritic because a company cant afford to fucking sponsor (or pay or whatever you want to call it) every critic out their. Also, just because it has features doesn't make it good, especially if most of them are shit gimmicks.

  • @afroebob Wait... so you're going to base the enjoyness of a game out of a score it got on a website? You're not that dumb are you?

  • @TheSWTORMMO I'm going to use it as a good consensus of overall opinion, and I would use this to pick the title who would be in not only my case but in anyone without a biased opinion. You have a biased opinion, I can tell by your name. I have a rather unbiased opinion, I didn't play SWG so for the best referral of overall quality the best place to go would be a website with a consensus of people payed to give unbiased opinions. To completely discredit them would be moronic.

  • =[

  • Farstar for the win

    Badlansx - secks

  • does anyone know if Mos Lowlands(a player city in the South Eastern corner of Tatooine) still existed, when these servers went down ??

  • o and ignite blastcaps a cool dude haha

  • rip far star.... sith guild ftw all hail lord v'lock

  • It's a shame the old republic blows... Oh well guild wars 2 is comin. Maybe it'll have lighsabers :D

  • This is very sad to watch because it reminds me that someday, one day that the same will happen to my own beloved game. Idk what I will do when it happens, but I try not thinking of it, like death...

  • @xNevintsha What is your beloved game?

  • @xNevintsha What is your beloved game?

  • @xNevintsha What is your beloved game?

  • i played this game back in 2004 before the stupid changes it was the best MMO ever..it was brilliant..you had to really EARN to become jedi (tho i never got to be one). i joined the rebellion and went on some fantasic adventures..full sized planets was awesum...it was a living breathing galaxy.

im playing SWTOR now its good but no were near as good as SWG..i was lokko-tat in SWG and im lokk-tat in SWTOR add me if you wish :) galaxies was a small but meaning full episode in my life........

  • WTF is going on in this video!? / It's like some kind of Feliniesque charade.

  • Comment removed

  • i remember watching my cousin play this and i loved it.....just never got around to actually starting a game of my own:(

  • Such a powerful video almost brought me to tears. "Svare Kilone closes his eyes for a moment" minute later disconnected forever...wow the closest you can come on how it feels when the world ends.

  • @jagarbaast Yes youre right. This video is pure evidence of how we will react if the world ends. Everyone will bundle up with their loved ones, friends, etc.

  • that's really sad :( ...

  • I never played this game, but it's just so sad when something you've been a part of for years is suddenly over :(

  • SWG is dead, long live SWGemu...

  • Star Wars is a big cult following and Galaxies proves this. After the NGE updates and the aging it went through it was shocking it lasted until 2011. Great game. I wish some more of some features of this game was in SWTOR. I miss being able to take a speading endlessly around the planets.

  • I will miss the game so much! I only played in the first half of 2004, but never made it back in. :(

  • i will truly miss swg i played for 7 yrs its so sad saying goodbye

  • so the empire won :)

  • @DarkChoclatewithtop On one server. everywhere else the rebels won.

  • @PycasneEesost According to SWG Memory Book, the Empire won in Ahazi, Bloodfin, Chilastra and Sunrunner.

  • @Kuokka77 I didn't know that.

  • @PycasneEesost There's a link now in video description to the Memory Book. It's a must read to all who played SWG at any time imo.

  • @Kuokka77 Too high TCG content for me... :P

  • @llololollololollooll ToR wasn't around when SWG came out, and I don't imagine you were either, DEAR CHILD.

  • I just want to say how grateful I am for galaxies. Without this game I would've died of boredom at my grandma's house. Well, guess there's not much left to say but, bye. I love STAR WARS

  • Shall be forever remembered!

    RIP SWG/Farstar

  • This brings back memories. Of a game that damaged your own health pool for aiming a blaster shot or throwing a kick, of a game that mass banned anyone with tainted money and teleported protests away and of a game that promised epic battles only to deliver tiny paintball arenas where everyone roasts marsh mellows outside. A game of constant what could have beens, instead of what was.

So I say.. what, SWG was still running? Seriously?

  • :( I dropped a tear when I watched this.. Thank you SWG for 7 great years and and Kuokka77 for posting the video!

  • Sow nice video.

  • How many players played this mmo? 30-40?

  • @vaju79 20000 you little dick!!!

  • @vaju79 lol, so ignorant =)

  • Im sad its gone but it was a really nice way to end it :) sony did something good for once for this game.

  • Rest in peace SWG, you had alot of issues but still was one of a kind....

  • rest in peace my farstar chars :L

  • grafic low ?

  • It would have been cool if they had bombarded the planet(x

  • i use to fight there for the empire ;)

  • in a sense this is what everyone would do in real life if they knew the world was going to end, they'd celebrate

  • ;_;

  • RIP

  • i like the guildchat: see you in lotro lmfao that rise of isengart update is the biggest crap ever created, even crappier then swg in nge.

  • Hope for better MMO in the future

  • What happened to that building at 5:20?

  • @BigManFromThe80s It's not a building. It's a player controlled ship hovering there and eventually he lands it, causing it to disappear suddenly. There were no fancy landing animations in SWG when you landed a ship from atmospheric flight.

  • @Kuokka77 OK I thought maybe it was player housing and he just deleted it to make everything look a bit more barren or something. Thanks.

  • Almost crying. :(

  • never forget

  • I'm not european, but I played on FarStar back in the day. Lumpi Fettbutti the master musician. Always in the Mos Eisley cantina.

    Sad to see it go.

  • Call them nerds, whatever you like, but it's honestly sad to see a group or community die, this was a huge part of some people's lives and to see it from the outside and see people saying goodbye to one another is heartbreaking in a way...

  • the last comment in regular chat is so awesome....BYE. See ya on the flipside SWG.

  • This is how the world ends.

  • One text at the end gave me goosebumps because of how well it played out in time. "Svare Kilone closes his eyes for a moment."

  • I played this game a while back. All I remember is a lot of flying across the desert.

  • Good bye swg you will be missed, somedays i go over to Swgemu but it will never feel the same..

  • @Athiestnova =)

  • The real players should get the new game for free and a lifetime subsription :D

  • As the sun sets on SWG it rises over TOR.

Sad to see SWG go nevertheless.

  • so does this mean its done forever? i heard there still was going to be a few servers up, what ones?

  • @Puelof its done for good, No servers

  • I actually surprised anyone was even logged in.

  • Sad...

  • This is why I'd never play a fuckin' subscription based game or anything that requires continued internet connection. Like HELL my fun is going to be ruined when some asshole pulls a plug somewhere.

  • @Zebonka goog luck finding a game that will last for 10 years... without a subscription to keep it financed (hense updated)...

  • @peetrwilson StarCraft has lasted 13 years without a subscription and Counter Strike has also lasted pretty long.

  • "Please find a safe place to log out"

    hehe

  • I only played during Pre-CU... but it's still sad seeing the game vanish.

  • @DukeAuroch

I Feel your pain, everything is gone. Your houses, items and citys all gone forever..

  • Seen this on gamefly news

  • The king is dead. Long live the king.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOO! so sad that is wierd wen i played i never saw any player and in this video there is thousends of players and i played farstar. so sad

  • This was really sad and I don't even play the game :(

  • Sad, loved this game :(

  • I must say, it's rather sad watching a game just die like that.

  • I miss it now..... I had orders tor but after watching this...... I canceled it long live SWG!

  • It brings a tear to my eye, my first mmorpg. Though it got ruined by the combat update. I still loved it.

  • @hookupskid85 The same.

  • Join the free to play private Pre-CU servers that are coming online soon. Google it. Keep your discs!

  • what a boring load of poo.

  • Rest in Peace, Star Wars Galaxies....

    Which side won? Rebellion? Empire?

  • Old republic is a great game! Bioware is a great company! Voice acting is amazing but can't wait to see what the legacy addition will add gameplay wise. Having characters who are related and share some traits has potential writing all over it. Bioware have put alot of time and effort and made a game that all starwars fans can embrace. RIP galaxies c u guys in SWTOR!

  • I played SWG for 6 years, and as much as I am enjoying The Old Republic, it just isn't the same. RIP Galaxies. (Why didn't they just make it Free to Play instead of shutting it down?)

  • @shannonshallbemine Sony lost the license, so they couldn't continue hosting the game at all anymore.

  • @shannonshallbemine The contract between Lucas Film and Sony has expired. The new licensholder (for an MMO) is Electronic Arts.

  • It's amazing how a server shutdown can bring all these people togheter... R.I.P. Galaxies
