you do not need toned muscle for this.a ctually women who do not do any other ab work, do this easier for some reason. you can be a size 2 or size 20 and od these. the probem is the more you do belly rolls your stomach starst to look more distended...ie you will look fatter if you roverweight cause the muscles grow outward a little afte working them like this a lot
I can't do it from top to bottom. Just from bottom to top. For some reason I just can't grasp the concept of releasing the top muscle while the bottom is still contracted.

and no u don't need tummy flab for this! on the contrary as a belly dancer u want to look fit and slim.. tho you don't have to of course most just feel more comfortable that way as their bellies are exposed..
hell i feel comfortable being NORMAL! lol most women who belly dance have "flab". It doesn't matter what you look like because as long as you have the confidence and smile and feel great about yourself, your audience doesn't care! (well at least the GOOD ones, not the posers here on youtube that want to comment on everyone)

noooo lol i have a tummy too but i cant seem to coordinate my abs enough for this either lol, supposidly i did it once when i was laying down and my husband freaked out and said "that was awesome do it again!" lol. ok heres an easy tip for your upper abs, keep a neutral spine and drop your chest muscles pushing your belly out. (kind of like when your going a #2 lol its gross but it helps)the muscles are right below your chest like youre doing a sit up. hope this helped :D keep practicing!
how can you just move your lower and upper muscles seperate?
