If this logic is true, then a non-functional family is just as good as a functional one, and a dead family is just as good as a live one. Thus, we'll just make the kids in these terrible situations feel better but nothing would have been actually accomplished. Imagine telling a greiving person that a dead relative is just as good as a live one! This is stupid reasoning, and this hypersensitivity in order to avoid hurting any child's feelings is silly and pointless and untrue.

I don't care what they say, a family with one father and one mother that are married and love one another is the only one that anyone would really want, and all these other "families" are not "just right for" anyone, but simply situations where the children caught up in them have to make do with what they have. Ask any child in that situation and they'll tell you they want the one family that matters that is superior to all others. Stupid song.

1:41 was my favourite Barney song when I was a kid. I liked how they sang about different types of families not just traditional ones. A lot of kids could relate to the ones with divorced parents, living with grandparents etc. Brings back memories :)

This is so wrong. A family is a husband and wife. Additions to the family are children. The head of a family is the husband. When a husband and wife break up, it's a broken family. If a husband or wife die, it's also a broken family. When sin and death was introduced into the world through Adam, it was the start of families that aren't whole. It shows that there is something radically WRONG in the world! Of course, we should reach out to single parents or grandparents raising their kids and such

Which is no fault of their own, and often no fault of the remaining single parent, in the case of death, abandonment, abuse, etc. Where is the harm in teaching gratitude for one's circumstances? Regarding the "head of the family:" Not everyone's lives are governed by a letter Paul wrote to an ancient church. Who decided that was God's commandment anyway? Parents should be an equal partnership.

As a kid who grew up with divorced parents and ended up being raised by my grandparents for most of my childhood, I appreciate this episode. It can be alienating for a kid who doesn't have the "traditional" family. In elementary school, I was the only one in my class with divorced parents, and in high school, it got really tiring to have to explain to people that I lived with my grandparents. :)

But as I look back on this as an adult, I wonder: if Barney was imaginary, then who was watching these kids after school? Why were they allowed to play in the school by themselves with no adults?

@BuenaventuraAvenue I assumed that the kids were allowed to hang out after school on their own (you sometimes see kids hanging out on their own after school in real life too (especially in older grades), so it's not that uncommon). The "no adults" thing was fixed when human characters and guests were added, but Barney is still pretty much the adult figure, despite him being imaginary. It seems odd, but like the purple guy has said, "anything is possible when you use your imagination

@TruelySonicHOG The concept of the kids being alone after school isn't the problem (I was a latchkey kid from the age of 7). Why are these kids in the school after hrs is what I want to know. There are no teachers or adults of any kind around but the doors are unlocked and the kids are free to enter as they please. But I guess I'm thinking too hard about this because vandalism and theft aren't big problems in Barney's universe lol.
