muslim people arent as extreme as we are led to belive, infact they are quite plesent people.
its the media that makes muslim people seem like they are bad people when they arent.
their traditions are different and some of them are barbarick in some countries, but most muslim people arent like the extremists that bombed the twin towers or anything. that is a very small number of people.
@Achk131 Islam is truly a religion of peace. It is in fact forbidden in Islam to create trouble, terrorism or to kill. Those who do this will be punished by God. Some of the 'barbaric' customs are culture endorsed and by no means influenced by Islam or any other religion. The so called Muslims e.g. 9/11 etc... are muslims by name, not actions. In the eyes of a Muslim, they aren't even considered muslim as if they were, they would not have done such things.
What about important things such as the ability they have to lead and influence the country. I think that is much more important than not having to be modest. Maybe you should be looking closer to home for that. When was the last time you Aussie friends were led by a female. The largest Muslim country in the world's prior leader was the great "Megawati".
Muslims have to give some of their money to charity (2.5%)while Christians didn't. While it usually was not as much, Muslims also protected the Christians, because they didn't serve in the military typically. Christians are doing very well in Muslim countries. In countries such as Syria and the HK of Jordan Christians are overrepresented as politicians and rich people. Can you say that about Muslims in Christian Countries.
Arab Christians have lived in the middle east even before Islam began. They lived for centuries much more peacefully, unlike Protestants and Catholic Christians in England and Germany for most of their history.
yea but if u look at history the arab muslims and arab christians even the jews lived peacefully. Christianity was a peacfull realigon, but with the interference of the Europeans(establishing the first crusade) this caused major problems.
I know you are from New Zealand, it says so on your profile. I am saying why when right to the nw of you your fellow westerners (friends) have not had a female leader are you worried about how women are being mistreated by dressing modestly. The closest Muslim nation to you has even been led by a woman how can you say they are all treated bad?
Since when does being rich does not make you free or unrepressed? According to your Bible you shouldn't be striving after worldly things. Remember the rich man and Lazarous? Anyways many of the most Catholic countries (Mexico, Honduras, Poland, Venezuela,... are not amoung the richest nations at all.
Do you honestly think it is the fault of Islam that the only major, widespread natural resource parts of the M.E. is oil? New Zealand for most of its history was held up by animal products, why is that better? If the west didn't get oil from the M.E. their standard of living would be completely different than it is now.
Modesty is different from place to place. It is stricter legally and culturally in some places than others. It is stricter in the US than France and the Netherlands which are stricter than tribal areas in Brazil and Central Africa. Most places women legally have to wear shirts while men don't. Are they being oppressed? Liberation of women is about much more than them being able to show more of their body to men!
Continued to taps, Look up List of countries by homicide rate on wikipedia. Compare Christian and athiest homicides (per 100000 people latest year available) US: 5.9, VE:42, CO:39.3, MX:13.04 LV:8.58 to some predom. Muslim nations Qatar:0.77, Syria:1.14, UAE:0.63, Bahrain:0.98, Yemen:3.98, Iran:2.93, Malaysia:2.36, Algeria:1.39, Indonesia:1.05, Saudi Arabia:0.92,Kuwait:0.99,Tunisia:1.22, Oman.59, MA.:47.
Latvia has very few black people and they still have a much higher homicide rate. As does Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, Georgia... Many blacks are Muslims and live in Muslim parts of north Africa (although as you said they choose to live there, so their situation is different then in places where most were brought as slaves.)
That is a modesty issue. For a long time Christian women did the same when they went to church, because of 1 Corinthians 11:2-16, most nuns still do. Modesty differs in different religions and cultures, even in Muslim countries: Taliban-controlled Afghanistan required by law women to wear full burkas while it is illegal in Turkey and Tunisia to even wear a hijab in public buildings and schools, so STOP STEREOTYPING. Immigrant woman can usually choose what they want to wear.
And TAPS711, if the Muslims are so violent why are predominately Muslim nations homicide rates so much lower than predominately Christian or athiest ones such as the US, Venezuela, Columbia, Mexico, Latvia etc?
Muslims are violent is all over the world in the name of allah...do I want to follow such people? I can't imagine myself wanting to be associated with such. I'll continue to choose friends that don't hate others for the sake of a religion. Surely God will rejoice in kindness rather than hate and murder.
Bangladesh has violent Muslims. It's not just arab Muslims that are violent...it's every place where Muslims live. I certainly wish it wasn't that way, but it is. Surely God will rejoice in kindness rather than hate and murder.
Most Muslim countries are less violent than the US. Even the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's life expectancy is longer than the US's despite rampant unemployment and a massively underfundeded health care system as is the life expectancy of the UAE.
Kingdom of heaven is just Ridly Scott's artistic and political vehicle. I liked the cinematography's the epic nature of the movie , When it comes to films based in history I prefer a recreation of history and not a fictional tale spun off of it. Brave heart is another example of embellishment by Hollywood.
I did not agree totally with the movie, kingdom of heaven. They showed that Saladdin had a very big army. But, as I know, the Crusaders were united and had a bigger army. What do you think?
that might be, politics were alive and well in this world for a long time. that does not absolve crusaders coming to liberate there so called holy land from the "infidels"

Quote from this movie lol. "I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the
lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god.
Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who
cannot defend themselves, and goodness. For what God desires, and
holiness is in your mind, and heart. And what you choose to do every
day you will be a good man, or not."
