u guys suck big balls. heavy metal is the way to go and if u aint down wit that then i guess u people have no taste. to the 80 people that likes this shit why dnt u go sck a cock coz thats wat u do when u listen to this bullshit. Metal will rise to the top over pop and hip hop one day but for now ill just start my own revolution......THE METAL REVOLUTION!!!!!! we will conquer all u watch and see. country will burn down in flames created by our guitars. power to metal. and u guys can suck it
I really like the Indigo Girls a lot but they have taken a sensitive song and turned into something else, something with far less subtlety. I really don't like it.
I've always loved Indigo girls singing this. the original is calm, emotionless and plain. this one makes it a song about love and loss, and she blows the roof off with it. This has all the heart and soul that the original lacks.

Mark Knopfler wrote and preformed the song, but until Amy did it, it meant nothing, now its one of my favorite songs of all time. In my top ten, its the first song to make me cry, but only by her, to this day ten years after, she brings tears to my eyes. I love this song and her for opening that in me. Love Erik.
This is a good cover. Her voice is fantastic...always has been. Making Movies from which this song was pulled is a fantastic album. I like both versions. She does kick ass at 1:35 when she sings "how can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals"
This is one of my favorite songwriters singing the work of my other favorite songwriters. Amy Ray singing Mark Knopfler - eeeeeee!!! :) I like songwriters singing their own songs, but the thing about covers is that its an expression of respect - in this context it works just fine! Amy Ray and Mark Knopfler both completely rock my world.
The Dire Straits' version is wan compared to this one. And Amy's not belting it out as hard as she did in the studio version. If you haven't heard that one yet, I'd encourage you to pick it up -- she sings it like it's tearing her guts out.
i like both versions, Dire and Indigo... the killers one lacks feeling is like a reading of the Dire one... so going back to the 2 versions... the Dire one is so sad in a infatuated yet resigned kind of way... so lovely... and the indigo is so desperate and angry like a "how could you kill this, b...ch" kind of way... the words are the same but the feeling's are so different.

Ha, Romeo and Juliet is a big song because Amy Ray made it huge! This song was on Rite of Passage. Mark Knophlers version sucked balls, and no one paid it any attention, accept Amy! This is the version that my friend Cole's Whalen, "I" Sean Smith, Edwin McCain, and many other artist cover! The Indigo Girls inspired a generation. Rock on Amy you are AMAZING!!!
It is a great version, I like it very much, at least as good as the original one.
But the ORIGINAL song (not cover nor version) by Dire Straits, specially the one they play in "On the night" is great!!! No one paid attention??? Better if you say YOU DIDNT PAY ANY ATTENTION.

SORRY DUDE, maybe my comment was a little unfair to Mark Knophler and Dire Straights. I like the band, but I "HATE" there version of this song! I know they wrote it, but as a songwriter myself I know that sometime it takes someone else to make your work great. Look at what Hendrix did for "All Along The Watch Tower". Afterwards, Dylan copied Hendrix's version because it was better!
Yeah, I agree, there are thousands of cases in which the cover is better than the original. I just wanted to say that the one by Dire Straits is not that bad.
Mere words cannot express the ignorance of your statement, but I will try. If you really could write a song that was halfway decent, there's no way you could say something like this. And I really hope English is your second language, because your use of it is the only thing more pathetic than your opinion. And for the record, Amy's interpretation of the song is so much more different than the Hendrix cover that it cannot be used for comparison. To sum up: your opinion is absurd & illiterate
I did not know I was trying to recieve an english grade here. Thanks for insulting my songwriting ability though. I can appreciate your opinion, as it is unique. For the last 12 years all I have recieve is support, and thousands of show dates, LOL!!! Look you are obviously a Dire Straits fan, and I am too! However, Mr. Knophler has no passion in his performance of this song, his song! Passion is what brings this song to life! Can you insult me again, don't know why, but I liked it! :)
I hate this, its irritating shes doing the song an injustice by stripping its melodies and any sense of good timing and her voice is dreadful and this version really kills the songs meaning and leads me to ask why she didn't make her version even slightly interesting
Certainly much better than the Killers' very bland version, but, in my opinion you cant improve on the perfection that Dire Straits created with the original.

i completely disagree. one of the best covers ever. you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but here's an idea for you- if you don't like it, don't watch it.
I was really impressed when I heard the Dire Straits (original) version, but this is the one I heard first several years ago. I am going to have to agree that this is one of the best covers on record. these girls do such a great version.
Great! I have loved this song by the IG for a long while, I never knew it was a cover from Dire Staits! I just listened to DS sing & I so MUCH prefer IG to the original. I would never even listen to this song by DS, but I lOVE this version! N I C E
i saw them for the first time at franklin and marshall with my best friend, and their sound is a large part of the soundtrack of my life, thanks emily and amy!
Indigo Girls I LOVE you!! And this song brought me all the way back to Bostn from Newport News, VA (in tear's).. but by the time I hit RI I was all set... Then I saw you at the Boston Pavillion on a beautiful summer night, full moon in the back ground!! Thank's for being an important part of the soundtrack of my life.. My daughter is now hooked!! Keep coming back to Boston, PLEASE!!
