  • Does Hong Kong not have housing executive and benefits for poor people and United Kingdom has all them does Hong Kong not do it because they haven't got the balls to do it are they just greedy cunts

  • I would develop claustrophobia living in such conditions. I went to HK recently but I had no idea it was this bad. Some parts are so metropolitan and cosmopolitan that you feel HK is a very fast paced developed, commercial city. Other places are almost like 3rd world countries.

  • wtf is this shit

  • how do i masturbate then

  • it's the same issue in every big metropolitan city

  • @p1t3n6

care to elaborate? other countries also have cage house?

  • @meis sorry, I didnt write enough details, what I meant was, people from the country areas go to the city but instead of getting proper job, they get shitty job and live in a bad condition.

  • @p1t3n6 Exactly, if people would move to a less populated area they could live in a half acre subdivision "cage" instead.

  • The problem appears to be those people need to get out of Hong Kong. Too many people+no jobs=poverty

  • @Independenthought Isn't Hong Kong's free market supposed to provide an endless amount of jobs?

  • @juliaisafilmbuff123 It worked well for years. But on a small island that was based on manufacturing jobs not service... then China and a market correction. This is happening to the US to some level but we are a bigger "island". Property values in Hong Kong are more like NYC than Wyoming. In the US you can still buy property anywhere outside the cities for cheap and make a good living without much start up. You could apply this logic to many poor/rich in US cities...

  • The key point is that the elderly gentleman has been living this way for 30 years. This means these conditions have been there since long before the end of British colonial rule. But of course this is not going to be stated outright because it is supposed to be believed that all of this simply came about after Chinese rule.

  • God Bless These people. I hope the best for you! Keep on going (: x

  • Hong Kong has the lowest birthrate in the world. Small wonder, you left your elderly to die lonely and penniless. Shame. Shame.

  • That girl has such awesome energy and blissfully unconcerned with her surroundings... she will have a bright future with her kind of attitude.

  • Brave lil girl ='(

    damn...

  • Most of the people that live in the housing that you see in this video are from Mainland China. They come from the main land into Hong Kong and without citizenship and whatnot, they can't get public housing. It's a little like Mexicans crossing the border into California for a better life and whatnot.

  • @jessicapleung Living in HK 30 years without rights? Are you kidding me?

Personally I think these people will be better off being assigned some plot of land to farm on, with grandchildren to take care of them in Mainland China.

HK is an ugly joke for a democracy. Luckily in the near future HK would not even be comparable to China's second tier's cities. The lady who cried got it right, she made a mistake thinking that she have a better life in HK.

  • @FuiSaoGai I don't think it's 30 years without rights... It takes 7 years or so to become a citizen and 3 years on the housing waitlist to get housing.

Moving yourself from the mainland and going into Hong Kong requires some degree of wealth. Like Jessica's mom stated, her bathroom used to be bigger than her current space. Most of the people in these cages could honestly afford better living in the mainland.

HK will always be a top city..just like New York or L.A., etc. HK isn't for everyone

  • @jessicapleung Did you miss the part of the video where the old guy said he has been living in that condition for 30 years? How ineffective is the HK government? Democracy my ass.

"HK will always be a top city..just like New York or L.A., etc. HK isn't for everyone"

I notice you didn't put Shanghai on that list, they put HK to shame. HK is only special as a free port to China. Personally I find HK ugly, just like a giant Chinatown. Other cities in China are smaller but far more pleasant.

  • @FuiSaoGai I watched it a week ago, so I forgot. Democracy and socialism are different things. You do realize that, right? A lot of people living in cage homes aren't citizens either - why does the government have to help immigrants out? Hong Kong does give people welfare money but the government can't do EVERYTHING.

Shanghai isn't much better. Look up "snail houses".

As far as HK being ugly, all cities have "ugly" and "pretty" parts.

  • @jessicapleung Its pretty clear we have different values and different interpretations of the what is occurring. There's no more to say. Suffice to say I do not wish to see China turn into a giant Hong Kong.

  • @FuiSaoGai Different values and interpretations? I'm merely stating that no government can provide EVERYTHING. The HK government provides its citizens with lots of things, cheap healthcare, cheap housing, welfare, etc. You're basing your entire view of HK off of one video - one showing what happens to its poorest. I think it's AMAZING that these people aren't on the streets. At least they have a roof over their heads.

China would be lucky to turn into a "giant HK."

  • @jessicapleung They are probably 'lucky' to turn into a giant HK. But I will be disappointed if they do. That's my opinion.

  • @FuiSaoGai Every country/government has trouble dealing and helping out its poorest. The only place that I think really has gotten it right is Australia.

  • @FuiSaoGai The reacquisition of HK is what led China to be what it is today. Why do you think China's slowly become a world power after 1997? Interestingly enough, there were about 10,000 "cage people" per 1997. Now there's over 100,000 mainly due to the influx of having to deal with 45,000 mainland immigrants per year. Hong Kong's population density is larger than most cities which is why people have to live in these conditions. Yet, it still boosts one of the highest quality of life for a city

  • @jessicapleung Such arrogance. Do you think China grew because they tax from the people of HK somehow? As far as I understand this isn't the case. China have been growing at an avg of over 10% since reform by Deng Xiaoping. Why don't we attribute their success to meeting Singapore's Lew Kwan Yew. Even by 1997, China GDP was growing at a rate to create a new HK in 2 years. Now every year, China's GDP rises by more than 3 HKs. So, how exactly is HK of vital importance to China's rise?

  • @FuiSaoGai I never said anything about taxes. And Hong Kong citizens don't really pay taxes at all - not even to the Hong Kong government. I'm attributing more of China's growth due to the new influx of international business. Business that came to China because of Hong Kong being handed back.

I'll agree with you in pure numbers, China's GDP is a monster over Hong Kong. This is why people look at GDP per capita more - Hong Kong's is ranked as 8th in the world. China's is at 92.

  • @jessicapleung Unless you can show that significant investment ended up in China because of return of HK. Investment began shortly after the economic reform, by investors around the world, particularly from places with people of Chinese descent: Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan (as well as HK). Otherwise, for HK ppl to take credit of China's rise is just pure arrogance.

As for China's GDP per capita. Its the same as HK's 30 years ago. They will likely catch up. No need to be overly proud.

  • @FuiSaoGai China's trade with America and the E.U. increased greatly from 1997-2002. Hong Kong is also the intermediate for trades involving China and U.S., etc. That's because Hong Kongers have that history of English which helps. (Singapore as well.)

You can google "hong kong intermediate of mainland trade" and see that HK is often an intermediate for China. They're even an intermediate between China and Taiwan.

  • @jessicapleung China's trade with everybody increased heaps every year. Yes, HK have been performing middle man role, and would have done so regardless of whether its still a colony or part of China. I would argue that its China rise that allow them to reclaim HK. Although HK certainly helped, are you sure its existence is critical. Remember that China cannot afford to allow HK to fail, as long as they have not yet reclaim Taiwan, and hence would continue give them special important roles.

  • @FuiSaoGai I'm sure Hk would still be in the middle man role. But HK being officially part of China opened more business between the two places. They both help each other - it's a mutual relationship. Yes, I'm sure because China in its early business development had all the resources of HK to become a huge power. Whether China needs HK in the future can be up for debate, but HK did help China's rise. Sorry, I have to ask - why can't China afford to let HK fail?

  • @jessicapleung Its simple, if HK fails, China would have no legitimacy to rule Taiwan whatsoever, people would basically said you can't even deal with one small island, how can you deal with the whole Taiwan.

  • @jessicapleung So you are telling me that the HK government was incompetent and unable to control immigration? I don't think quality of life in HK is good. This is based on my friendship with several HKers, they are suffering from low pay and extremely demanding hours. There area also plenty of HKers in Thailand where I grew up, despite being a poorer country. This is because living costs is too expensive, and people don't get paid a living wage, that's why people moved to greener pastures.

  • @FuiSaoGai

As a former U.S. Navy sailor in my youth. I know all too well what it is to live as a human sardine in a tin can. But this is so much different. A warship is so much more well-ventilated, plus we were all volunteers and brothers (albeit we sometimes beat the crap out of each other). Including which we were all well-fed and kept busy AND we had to keep the place spotlessly clean and were responsible for each others safety.

I guess there's no real comparison.

  • @pinz2022 I agree, it makes me angry to have people make excuses for the horrible living condition of these old people, especially because Hong Kong is not poor.

  • @FuiSaoGai I don't think immigration is really the fault of the government. Look at America, lol. What I'm really stating is that the influx of mainlanders leads to these conditions. Most (not all) of the mainlanders don't really have the skill set to be paid like an educated Hong Kong native. They earn less and Hong Kong, being one of the most expensive cities in the world makes life a really difficult place to live in when you have no cash.

  • @jessicapleung Immigration is the fault of the government if they do not control it. Unless you are suggesting that Jessica's mom is an illegal, then it is HK's gov fault for letting her into the SAR. Most likely some HKers run dodgy businesses "helping" unqualified people to migrate, I suspect she had taken a large loan to move into HK. However, the 76 year old man have been there for 30 years. Its said in the vid that he lives on welfare. But apparently welfare in HK means living in a cage.

  • @FuiSaoGai There's a cap of how many mainlanders can enter Hong Kong officially. Illegal immigration is a problem for everyone - governments aren't big brother and thus they can not watch over everything. I'm not suggesting that her mom is an illegal but who knows, she might be! I'm sure a dodgy business like that does occur.

It also stated that he had no family, so he was all alone. HK has one of the lowest birth rates because usually it takes two to survive there.

  • @FuiSaoGai New immigrants don't get government benefits until they're citizens. This process takes ~7 years. HK is also a free economy so there's no such things as minimum wage and whatnot. Life is hard when you have nothing and you're seeking a "better" life in HK. That's why people end up living in these places. Most of them, not all, mind you.

Quality of life has diminished since 1997, I'll agree with that. But to say HK is terrible because of one video is simply wrong.

  • @jessicapleung It also appear to me you are living in the US. I guess HK is too much for you to handle also. This is the case for a lot of Australian HKers as well.

  • @FuiSaoGai I'm in the US for schooling, but I'm a native Hong Konger. I wouldn't say it's "too much" to handle. But I will say that I was born into a much better situation than other people in Hong Kong. I'd like to ask - are you one as well?

  • @jessicapleung No, I have an unusual background. I was born in one of the other formerly British colonies. One which was described as the pearl of the orient until it became part of Malaysia, where it is now no longer a special place, but not unpleasant. I have experienced living in Thailand and Australia, as well as having travel quite widely. No where else I have been is as overrated as 'free & democratic' HK. I really did find it rather ugly and disappointing.

  • @FuiSaoGai I am curious about where you visited. Was it mostly Kowloon? But I'll be honest with you too - it hasn't really been as free & democratic as it used to be. While I was growing up in Hong Kong, it was one of the greatest cities ever. But now, due to every single factor that has influenced it, it has turned a lot worst. You can see the disappearance of the effects of British rule even on the streets. Beautiful parts of the city still exist, however.

  • @jessicapleung I stayed at Novotel in Wanchai. Right out side were fugly 3rd world type buildings built more than 20 stories tall. People were doing dangerous carpentering on the street, and using bamboo scaffolding, which is so very 3rd world. We traveled around the island and across the island, including Lantau which admittedly was a pleasant part although the Buddhist stuff were rather kitschy compared to the real historical temples, but thats not HK's fault. CBD was impressive yes.

  • @FuiSaoGai Many buildings have been built since forever which is why they're old, "fugly" and 3rd world like. You can't really tear them down and build new ones without displacing people from having housing, thus they stay there. Many places use bamboo scaffolding - China, Macau even Singapore was using it until one or 2 years ago. It's just an Asian tradition.

  • I have never seen such concentration of bamboo scaffolding anywhere but HK (and I can't remember coming across them in Singapore). Even in Thailand most scaffolding are build from metals at least. Even new buildings in HK are quite ugly. You can really see the greed in HK's capitalistic developers when they build these residential buildings with very small units. Don't tell me about how HK is small and has no land. There are plenty of empty space in HK SAR, its just not being utilized.

  • @jessicapleung I was wondering how 'free & democratic' you considered British rule and what specifically changed to make it less so. Given that Singapore had general elections since its founding as a nation, you could even argue Singapore is even more democratic. As for disappearing British colonial architectures, I think HKers only have themselves to blame, for letting capitalist run wild, Singapore did great at conserving her past, and even Qingdao in China is more than pretty.

  • @FuiSaoGai Living under British rule felt more free. You would see people protesting for something and the British would follow through with what the people wanted. Nowadays, when people protest in China, they get detained. China kicked out elected officials in HK's government and put their own people there (1/2 of the ruling body is pro-Beijing for a good reason). Hong Kong isn't even very democratic. We don't even have universal suffrage. Singapore has censorship issues.

  • @jessicapleung I am not aware of people detained in HK for protesting. Officials going through with demands also happen in China. I am no expert on politics, but there is no parliament in Hong Kong, whereas there exist one in Singapore, as well as voting rights. HK was only able to elect its own Chief Executive in 1996, one year prior to the hand over. The Brits never really gave you 'democracy'. Even China has elections within its Single Party State. I guess you really aren't too different.

  • @jessicapleung I also wanted to add that if you are really only 20 years old. You would barely have any life experience to say that HK really was better under the Brits (which is also completely different argument to HK being more democratic, because it was not a democracy, but a colony under British rule). Also being young and idealistic, and having no work experience, you would not be able to sympathize with the suffering of the old working class people who have been abandoned by HK.

  • @jessicapleung

God help me, I first read of the "cage homes" in the summer of 1988. In America's notorious sensationalist tabloid: "National Enquirer" no less. I didn't want to believe it, but, having visited HK with my family as a child, I knew it was plausible. The question is, have the "cage people" really multiplied tenfold since the handover?

  • @pinz2022 The stat of approx. 100,000 people that are currently "cage dwellers" was the most recent stat I could find. This was from 2009... It's now almost 2012. I'm sure it has only become worse with the world economy the way that it is. But yes, it has since the handover - more so due to a more open border with mainland China.

Just imagine America opening its borders to Mexico in the same manner HK has to China. Living conditions like this would simply be an effect.

  • Compare Singapore and HK population growth since 1997. I think we can safely say that Singapore have taken a lot more immigrants, (over 1 million people added). As far as I am aware, they are also handling it better.

  • @FuiSaoGai Singapore's government does a great job of denying that they have problems. But they struggle too. See: /watch?v=ITCBEwLdxxQ&feature=related The population growth from immigrants has created a larger disparity in the rich vs. poor (much like HK). Singapore has a lot of people sleeping in the streets. You can google that. Singapore's cost of living is just as high.

  • @jessicapleung I can't claim to be an expert on whether Singaporean government denies problem or not. I know they have done some substantial work at dealing with the problems. I don't think I have heard about 100,000 homeless or living in cages for 30 years in Singapore. Its not too hard to find pictures of homeless in HK as well. I still think Singapore is better. Easier on the eyes at least.

  • @FuiSaoGai I don't know too much about Singapore either, I do know they have public housing. And I do know one of their politicians famously stated that Singapore has no poverty whatsoever. In the little articles I found, there's no stats of poverty at all but it did state their police sweep the streets daily to keep homeless people out. Singapore has a huge suicide rate - mostly related to stress of finances. And like I said before, prior to the handover, that number was ~10,000.

  • @jessicapleung Singapore suicide rate is just slightly higher than Australia, lower than India and significantly lower than Hong Kong. I guess you should have better statistics to convince me HK is better. I know you are proud of your city because its where you grew up and all. But I don't think you are convincing me its better. I love Thailand forexample, but I accept that its a pretty crap as a country.

  • Its not so bad.

  • Which organization is Sze Lai with?

  • i would rather live in the wild

  • Why the fuck do they bother to make cages? Why can't they just slap some 2x4s together and make a frame instead? It has to be cheaper.

  • @MrMcDugan

everything is too expensive in Hong Kong dude!

  • I got an ad for the Cosmopolitan casino in Vegas. Interesting juxtaposition

  • 2:30 so why doesn't he move to a non-luxury apartment?

  • @klx134sm Because at that $12 square foot rate, it's still cheaper than paying for more space at a cheaper rate. total cost would be higher.

  • just a heads up, hong kong gov is really generous in providing housing for people. But numerous Chinese immigrants flood the system and although not offered citizenship they choose to stay and as such choose to stay in these areas, as they usually come with little possessions.

  • :(

  • help jessica please..... please .... pleease!!!! askdlafj;sdkfjs;lbj;awoijb

  • little girl is soo cute... i want to give her a good future... fuck only if i won the lottery.... shit!!

  • The state knows whats best for you....

  • The space in between my bottom bunk and top bunk is larger...

  • When I think my life is bad I will think of these brave souls. Yet, they have each other and that's still a lot. When you have money but nobody else to share your existence it can be worse than living in a cage.

  • Zi Lay Shan is pretty hot.

  • @dngrspapercut She probably has a wealthy man that allows her to do the humanitarian work. Good for her.

  • @dngrspapercut go and buy her :D

  • well, at least everyone over 18 that are permanent residents in HK will be getting 6k HKD (roughly £500) for the year 2011 under the new government scheme.

  • Fuck Lee ka seng

  • why in the world would they charge them more per square foot than in a luxury apartment?!

  • While it's true that "there will always be poor among us", it is disappointing that this would be a justification for apathy or comments to "let it be/get over it". This video serves to show us what life is like for some - and how human dignity is trampled, period, no matter the scale of severity. MLK Jr said it well, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." May this video illicit compassion & connection, provoking us to use the resources we've been blessed with to care for others

  • @mynigga1337 What?

  • The lil gal is so cute! Ho tat yi! :)

  • it's better than being a subsistence farmer or living in a squatters camp

  • Oh .. Come on.... Where ever u go ... There will be always .. Rich and poor it's normal ....

  • I don't believe that's a part of Hong Kong!!!

WHY OUR GOVERNMENT DIDN'T TO DO SOMETHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM??!!

Do you believe those Hong Kongers are living in Hong Kong?? I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!

  • people need to realize that there will always be poor people.... deal with it,

  • I'm an American living in Hong Kong for 7 years. I've heard about these dwellings but have never seen them. I notch it up to so many unacceptable conditions in living here. The disparagement of wealth is so divided and there so little done about it though Hong Kong government reserves are fat and theres a general apathy about care for the elderly and disabled. There are caring charities active in helping but this isn't enough. I'm leaving this shit hole soon and likely wont' miss it.

  • this is definitely NOT the normal part of Hong Kong. the family in this vid is way too poor to afford the expensive life in hk because they're from mainland china and they didn't have much money.

i don't see the reason why they had to complain about how they live their life here while having the option to go back to the mainland china and lead a normal life. they have choices, of course! *sigh*

  • @lightningforcestrike I agree with you. now with the Minimum Wage set up in HK, people are earning more every hour. around £4 every hour now. There is hardly any people homeless in HK TBH, but theres quite alot in places like Nottingham and Oxford. Also, people do choose to live in these housing, they can go to places liek Yuen Lon and live there, but they don't - why? Because it's near the urban city where it is convient to travel - and travel is an im,portant factor of everyone's live in HK

  • the girl is so sweet

it's such a shame she has to put up with that kind of living conditions

the price of housing here is crazy

@perry173 the public transportation here is wonderful and cheap actually, probably much improved since your parents' time

we just need much much more appartments : (

i'm so grateful to my parents that i'm already living in one and i do voluntary work helping children in poor living conditions

  • It's sad how this is prevalent in such a city that's supposed to be affluent, not to mention my parents were from HK. However, with such a high density in a city that's so small where an apartment 3 quarters the size of one in the US/Canada is considered good living, you can only do so much.

Also, even if they were to move out to public housing, it'll be very likely located far from the city (such as Yuen Long), where transportation alone can easily eat up half of their wages.

  • @perry173 Again, that refers to my comment on this, people do choose to live in poverty. They can go to place like Yuen long and build a 1 acre mansion in a field. But they don't as transport is costly, and it takes too long (Traffic, distance and the amount of cars on the road). Thats why people require and want these accomodations, they aren't 'forced'. That woman even said her home in China has a Bathroom bigger than the size of her home, why remain in HK then? just go back to China!

  • this is so sad.

  • I think it is an important point to note, these poor people have no world view cuz they have to live in the neighborhood all their lives, the only thing they can get on is work, day in and day out, and use the money, prob. to pay off rents or fees for school for kids. It's just sad.

  • Comment removed

  • I am no lover of the British government, but I do have to wonder how many countries would peacefully relinquish their claim after a lease had expired like the brits did. Would America do the same? I somehow doubt it.

  • Recently Hong Kong Gov't is planning to give out $6000 Hk Dollars to everyone over 18 who has a hong kong citizenship.

  • okay my annual trip to hong kong this year will not be all just funn ! £4 an hour is bad... |$4 an hour is just... this makes me sad seeing this!

  • This is the result of pure capitalism. Like Singapore and the US, there's a big divide between the rich and the poor. However, even though the slices of the pie are divided less evenly, the pie does get bigger over the long run which is why Hong Kong and Singapore are two of the most successful economies in the world. The only countries as rich have a lot of natural resources or are have status as tax havens in the EU. Both of which won't last forever.

  • This is worse than Dachau!

  • OH. MY. GOD......

  • toda gran mega ciudad tiene un culo, y el culo de Hong Kong es de los mas feos

  • we discussed a very good topic in class today. why do other nations help another ONLY when a national disaster happens, such as a tsunami or earthquake. yes its good that we donate for those situations, but its like when the nations recover from those disasters, everyone just stops. i think that we should keep donating not ONLY for disasters

  • @siumaihargow

99.99% of the time the aid goes to wrong hands, like private jets to african dictators. On the other hand with a "racist" idea I would rather support the poor in Asia, hardworking mofos.

  • shame, honk kong is going down the shit hole dump america and london, its being western for bad reasons. materiallistic bullshit. money money money

  • This video was such an inspiration. All my life I've always wanted to find a good job, make a lot of money and giving most of my money away to charity because honestly, i'm just one person, I don't need as much money than, for example, the people in this video. But now, I understand that donations just isn't enough. People have got to actually TAKE action and stand up for others. I see now that I can do more than just give away money, we all have to make everyone open their eyes and see.

  • Shit like this happens all over the world, if you were to research it all you would go crazy. Our world is such a sad place.

  • OK what will be next from comminsim and then probably back from British control well living like this is bad then it will be worse when you see a pope from Japan in control but this time the Irish will do on to China is what America did in Japan in other words if Britan control all of China the Irish will do the same, thing to the Chinese as the Americans did to the Japanese in 1945.

  • So this is what they get for living like it was jail ! This is nonesense why they only blasphamies Japan and don't say shit about Britan ? Well it has been 140 years of mistreatment so what will be next if it wasn't for all this made up theater then the people of Nanjing will be better treated and live in better housing than Hong Kong but no they rather live like criminals and kiss those British scumbags on their asses and give the middle finger to the Japanese thats sad !

  • this makes me feel ashamed to be from the u.k here we have people who have 13 kids and refuse to work and live comfortable lives receiving more money than people who do work.. then theres this.. i dunno which government is worse.

  • @justin8910 Same here in Canada. I know some people who loves receiving well fare and have refused to work coz afraid the government will pay them less. I am ashamed knowing these people too.

  • @justin8910 Yes, there this woman, all over the news. She and her 4 husbands, along with 14 children calim over £35K a year! Thats $37 million HK Dollors!!! A waste of tazpayers money, no a waste of OUR money cuz we pay taxes!

  • @justin8910 I think it's VERY obvious which one is worst.

  • @justin8910 they are raising ur demographics unless they are arabic, than yes 13 arabs is quite bad for the country

  • Comment removed

  • Sick World.

  • i really feel sorry for the poor little girl. unless the mother's life is in danger in china, she should not put her child in this living condition. she is most likely separated from her husband.. i hope someone is kind enough to step up to help this adorable kid since her lousy living condition is well exposed in the media.

  • so all europeans are trolling poor people

  • Why do people turn to government to fix such problems? The answer lies with each one of us as individuals. If the people of any given city pull together then any problem can be overcome. Government is not the answer but an excuse to not take personal action. My thoughts and prayers are with the poor in Hong Kong.

  • @247websolutions Currently it costs just under half a million US dollars for a 600sq foot apartment in HK. There's no way for even a dual income college grad couple to afford the 15% down payment if they wanted to buy a home here. The government has public housing, but are reluctant to give them out since it will rub property developers the wrong way, as this will cause property prices to drop. The HK government CAN do something. They can ignore the fat cat property developers.

  • @247websolutions

    Scumbag, 247websolutions:

    Claims personal responsibility.

    Prays for solution.

  • @247websolutions

You forgot that the government, ideally, IS the people and exists for people to come up with solutions for these kind of problems.

  • wow, the other side of hong kong....

  • All Chinks live like this for sure!! WHAT A HECK!!

  • @LovefuckChinkcunt wow your racist fuck. did you create your account just to fuckin hate on chinese. i hate fuckin assholes like you

  • @ryan97303

Sorry, I see many Chink made accounts like NUKEJAP or JAPENISSMALL or KILLJAP or JAPHATER or many manym and they are all Chinese!!

  • I also am from hong kong, born, in quite a rich family and for quite some time. I thought everybody else was just like me or better then me in terms of socially and financially.

I never could have imagined that people

In kong kong lived like this.

I hope hong kong realizes the situation people (cage dwellers) are in....

    regards from Vancouver, Canada

  • im hong konger as well and i always believe that there are two hong kongs: the central part (hk island and southern tip of kowloon) is the 'showcase hong kong', while where i live (the rural parts - northern and central parts of the mainland) will be the 'real hong kong'.

personally i find the cage dweller story very bizarre - what can i say? the government needs to pay much much more attention to the wealth gap nowadays. i doubt that the $6000 proposal will be very effective...

  • Hong Kong is not that big.. I am a hong konger and I love and still love my hometown but I don't think more population into Hong Kong would be any good! The land can only hold so much! I am frightened and still frightened for the people that lived in such areas... I hope whatever happens, something good happens.. Best luck to them!

  • This is reality if u don't make enough money the goverment can't always pull u out of trouble even nips in china think the goverment is responsible !!!

  • The story of Jessica is sad. But one needs to ask what the family had in mind when the unskilled mother decided to bring the daughter to Hong Kong alone on her own. I am sure the situations are always complicated back in Mainland China and I am sure there are a lot of kind-hearted Hongkongers who won't mind giving a helping hands to the poor immigrant families, but as a whole I don't think Hong Kong's welfare system can handle such an influx.

  • @xLossage Opium trade was such a small portion of the wealth created in Britain. The industrial revolution and innovative capitalism is what drove the British empire to greatness. How can one have tremendous armies and an empire with no wealth or driving innovations? You are one big logical failure.

  • @savemyplaylist "The industrial revolution" Had little to do with any type of monetary or political system.

"innovative capitalism" Didn't innovate anything other than take the inventions of ingenious engineers and scientists which had their beginnings in classical Greek philosophy which lived democratic city states a thousand years before. Europe was a rat infested shit hole which was nearly wiped out in bubonic plague by it's own unsanitary practices.

  • @xLossage "AFTER BRITAIN ran out of hong kong lease (99 year lease expired), China made Hong Kong TWO times more rich." --Are you fucking high? HK came out of poverty and destitute UNDER British rule during the 70s. The British maintained a laissez-faire rule during that time. All that wealth was created with pure unadulterated capitalism. Now people from communist China, like this lady, want to take it away. You really lack the most basic cognitive skills.

  • @xLossage You are suggesting the British empire became wealthy because of opium dens in China? HAAHHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Fucking dip shit, read a history book. By the way, Britain was its wealthiest in the 1800s not 1900s, by that point they had overextended themselves and shortly after the wars they were in serious financial trouble. You are one stupid motherfucker. Where did you learn history, the back of a cereal box?

  • HAHAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • . Housing in villages is cheaper, but it is not convenient, since it costs money to travel to work.

All in all, I find this video very biased, and it does not show the truth. You can't just march into a place, and demand to be taken care of.

And this is not said by a rich person, me and my family really have to work for our money.

  • Of course it is very sad for children to live this way. But it is a fact that adults choose to live this way, because they want to become permanent residents in Hong Kong. And that takes 7 years of renewing visas.

The only reason why people move to HK from the mainland is because they want to better their situation. Unfortunately, this usually does not turn out that way, as you can see in this video.

  • @jeroendurantube

Being a Hong Kong native and growing up there, I definitely agree with your observance and statement. People from mainland come to Hong Kong expecting to benefit from the established wealthy society, which mainland fell behind to due to their communist past, though is quickly catching up on. I view it as comparable to the situations in the U.S., where people ILLEGALLYimmigrate to and expect the government to provide almost all living necessaties while giving nothing back.

  • I live in Hong Kong, and see both sides of wealth, and are very up-to-date when it comes to 'social standards’.

Unfortunately I have to say that people choose to live this way. Government housing is available for all RESIDENTS.

11.27: "You see there's no squatter areas in Hong Kong now."

This is an outright lie. I have one right in front of my house. And there are about 6 more

    just in my village

  • This is so sad, in Australia our welfare system makes sure that nobody lives like that. I don't think anyone lives in that kind of poverty here, expecially a family.

  • In general, public housing in HK is pretty good, very affordable and available for all poorer, permanent HK residents. These people are not HK residents, they are migrants from China. There was something about "less then 4$ / hour salary at 711". This is the real reason they are here. 4$ is what they get in China/ day and not/ hour.

They ask for public housing- why don't they just go back to China where housing is cheap? Why stay in a city with some of the world's most expensive sqf prices?

  • REALLY!!! The U.N. says it's unacceptable and insult to human dignity... well its against human rights besides I thought the U.N. was created for the better of mankind or is it just for the better for the rich.

  • u fucken shitting me??.

at lest theres opportunitys in hong kong to change the way you live

in south africa you got fuck all@!

  • Milton Friedman must've ignored this part of the city when he used it as an example of "good capitalism without gov't interference" in his "free to choose."

  • @whoo689 retard, these are immigrants. Why do you think they'd rather live there than mainland china? Capitalism was the only reason there was wealth in the first place! There's not enough wealth in the world to make up for what stupid failures communism has done.

  • @savemyplaylist You do realize that mainland China went on a much more capitalist course starting in the 80s, right? The Communist Party there is pretty much just in name only. Besides, I was referring to UNFETTERED capitalism as advocated by guys like Friedman. I have nothing against the private sector in general.

  • @whoo689 Mainland is making up for 300 years of failures, not gong to happen overnight. What fucking responsibility does Hong Kong have to immigrants? Especially those that have no skills, she's lucky to even have those meager scraps.

  • @savemyplaylist Are you a libertarian, by any chance?

  • hong kong is still rich because of trading companies..

they are smart , very competent in business

  • What's wrong with Hong Kong Government??? 1 of the reasons I hate HK. Use to pay US5000 for a 700sq feet apt in Happy Valley. Hence I quite HK. I'm now living in Singapore.

Although Singapore is by no mean a perfect utopia but after years of living abroad, find that Sing is the best place I have ever lived.

Foreign workers have better standard of living in Sing then those cage people.

my building is more then 70 yr. but still look like new.

  • shame on my hometown ...

  • Hong Kong has like what? 7 million people living in a little over 1000 km square. The population density is CRAZY! There is not enough land but what is there to do? It's not even about the birth rate, it's just the amount of people coming in HK from looking for jobs and a better life. The gap between the rich and the poor is enormous. It's just to weird to see people spending thousands on LV bags whereas other people can barely afford to feed themselves.

    GOVERNMENT FAIL.

  • @xLossage

Do I need you to teach me about hong kong history? I know my place.

  • @xLossage

and without britain hong kong would have been just like china, and china wouldn't have been able to make hong kong twice richer than in 1997. and btw did hong kong get that much richer?

  • I have watched at least 3 'HK cage living' videos shooting from exactly same room, same sign, same entrance, same room layout, floor etc. Is this the only cage dwelling in existence?

  • Fuck China and its communist anti-human system. And just so you know, this is coming from Europe from people in former Communist countries.
