  • audio transcribe ftw turn it on and go to 5:38 ''so im gonna do switch that stable aisan of again''

  • Is it 4/3 mount instead of M4/3??

  • Please i can see you test a Leica S2

  • the whole "in body stabiization" marketing push is flawed.... think about it.

Image stabilization is NOT needed if you're shooting anything wider than 50mm unless you're a coffee addict.

lens stabilization is far better due to the fact that if a NEW IS system is out. you simply upgrade the lens. no need to fork out thousands more on a new body,

that is why the bigger companies have not moved to in body IS.

  • @ichirootaniguchi I disagree. What if you want do do a handheld half second exposure on, say, a wide angle lens - that would be impossible on a system without stabilisation, but it is possible on a system with stabilisation built into the body. IS is not just for long focal lengths - it's very useful for long exposures at wide focal lengths too.

  • @cameralabs i do hand held exposures without the need for any stabilization whatso ever........ think about it this way. if IS was THAT important for most shooting sittuations. why don't professional medium format cameras have it? it's the same as to why they don't have live view and all the other bullshit that's introduced in lower level cameras.... i shoot for a living and i find that in body IS is not neccessary..... only regular consumers need this crap

  • @cameralabs good point my friend..though a half sec exposure would i feel be pushing even an ISS lens!

  • @ichirootaniguchi Your 'if a new system is introduced' argument is flawed - its much cheaper to replace a £2000 body than even say... 3 of Canon's top lenses that could total up to £10000.

  • @McIntyreJack yes they add up to a few thousand pounds but think about it. those lenses can be mounted on multiple bodies in turn saving you money in the long run. and as my point earlier. if a new IS system is upgraded. and you so desperately need it. then you would simply just sell the old lens (or trade it in) and get the upgrade. simple as that. no need for upgrading the complete body, if professionals truly needed built in IS the major companies would introduce it.

  • @McIntyreJack also. professionals have different needs to the regular consumer. that is why they are using primarily the Nikon/Canon/Fuji system for small format SLR use simply because they built what professionals actually need. olympus do make great cameras. and i do admit the in camera stabilizer can be handy. but out of my own experience (coming from film) i have never once needed IS at anything lower than 200mm (in low light), alot of other working photogs would say similar things........

  • @ichirootaniguchi the 50mm has a 100mm equivalent on the camera

  • @souleateryo regardless of the 2x crop factor unless you are a coffee junkie you don't need IS/VR/OIS for anything shorter than 200mm.. in body IS is ridiculous

  • Hi.

If i'm going to mount these lenses on a Canon(with an adapter) could i change the aperture on the lens or do i have to change it on the body?

  • @MrJippaLippa uh... well you HAVE to change it on the lens with four thirds cameras right? so you'll have to do the same on a canon. plus you're mounting a non native lens on a canon camera. there will be no way on earth you could change lenses via the body unless you completely overhaul the lens and change the electronics etc.

  • Would you say that this Pana-Leica is better at large apertures than the Olympus 14-54 II? Also, have you ever heard of a manufacturing issue with grain-like dust in the periphery of the front element (from the inside)? Thank you.

  • 7d eos music video...Ls Centz i lost my baby..continuation of Ls voicemail on youtube...My second video i ever shot using canon 7d eos did it in one day check us out

  • would this lens be good on an e620?

  • Why havent you reviewed the Leica D Lux 3 and 4?

  • @pingtran There's no point. They're rebadged Panasonic proiducts which I've already reviewed at cameralabs . com, and the demand for Leica is extremely small.

  • yea, no ones gonna pay twice the price for a leica when you can just get a panny

  • Hi Camerlabs,

will this lense work on my ep1 olympus?

  • That was a great camera body. It's untortunate that Panasonic and Leica discontinued it. It was the only relatively affortable way of getting a camera with shutter speed dial as well as the aperture ting on the lens. In addition, the body offered live view, as well as non-electronic viewfinder view, just like the Olympus E-330. The porro prism was the design that really made a lot of sense for digital camera.

  • great review, thanks!

  • Thank you !

  • 18 seconds into the video I tell you! It's a Panasonic L1.

  • Geesh...it says in the video Onslow, no wonder why you got 7 thumbs down.

  • really? wow

  • 4 thirds? what does that mean?

  • Liked your review and suggestions very much. THanks.

  • nice review, thanks

  • Thanks Gordon. Thanks Cameralabs. Your reviews are better than any others.

  • you so british :D

    offtop sry.

  • He is so British, informative, well spoken and knowledgeable...

  • this lens is for a 4/3 mount? so it wont work with the Nikon D40?

  • Correct.

  • Leica don't make lenses for F-mount. They have a partnership with Panasonic, and Panasonic use the 4/3 mount.

  • Check out the Lens Buyers Guide and Nikkor lens group test at cameralabs . com, then if you have any other Qs, feel free to ask on the cameralabs forums...

  • Wow IS.Now thats tech......

  • panasonic by Leica ???

  • Its not actually made by Leica.

  • The lens is manufactured under a licensing agreement with Leica Camera AG in a Panasonic plant based in Japan.

  • Yeap

  • sexy camera, but i shot with one and it feels like a Holga, plastic and light like a toy. i didn't really like it...but still an attractive camera

  • Hi, Gordon. Thanks for the review! Your website has been a great tool for me. But you mentioned the 14-150mm lens from Leica. Is this lens out yet, and how much is its retail price?

  • I'm not sure what's happended to this lens - it was supposed to be out by now, but I can't find it anywhere.

  • Thanks, Gordon. There's another lens that I'm interested in: the Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Four Thirds (I have a Lumix L1). I was wondering if you had any plans of reviewing that particular lens.

  • I intend to review it in the future, but in the meantime, there's several owners on the Cameralabs forums who've posted results...

  • quality equipment however even with the cheapest entry-level nikon DSLRs (D40/D40x) you are getting a significantly larger sensor surface-area..

  • so what ?!

  • So the 4/3 sensor will have much more noise at high ISO/ASA values.

  • The difference is no more than half of a stop in noise. So on a nikon you can shoot 3200 and on an olympus about iso 2000.

To me all shots made above iso800 are crap so i don't care for the iso hype. All cameras loose detail in high iso even if they look clean.

  • Great tests, thanks a lot. I am looking forward to get this camera in the near future. Manual style forever !!!

  • that guys shirt is proper rad! :)

  • nikon d80 ?

    panasonic lumix l1 ?

  • panasonic lumix l1 perfect

  • How good is leica compared to canon for example? (the body!) And is there a big range of optics for Leica cams? At the moment i own two canon digital-bodies and certain L-Lenses. Is it worth a try to step to leica or should i stay at canon?

  • Sorry, i mean panasonic, not Leica.

  • Hi emanemanresuresu, right now there's only one Panasonic DSLR, the Lumix L1 - and Leica has its own rebadged version of it called the Digilux 3. Both can use any Four Thirds lens, including over 20 from Olympus. Sounds like you have a big investment already in Canon though, so I'd stick with it, unless there's something you really don't like. See our other video tours and also the full reviews at Cameralabs . com for more details...

  • Thank you for replying. Yes the ammount of money invested in canon raised over the years... What i dont like at canon is the deviation of product-quality (focussing-failures such als back- or frontfocus) Some Lenses for example are good and some are really bad (same lens-model!) I think they have a problem with quality-control during Production. I got a 70-200f4 wich was not centered correctly and had the typical backfocus at 70mm.

  • Excellent review. I've never seen the image stabilizer in action before, but I know have seen it first hand. Thanks.

  • Hello everyone! The full review of the Leica lens to go with this video will be on the Cameralabs website in the very near future...
