Yod is a machine, over 200 fights and only 24, absolute beast.
Holding pads for those kicks is a work out in itself.
As for holding the pads, remember to give yourself a little break here and there and back off and drop your arms between combos to rest the,m for a few seconds.
when i first started i used to hold them up until the session was over and it killed me, when he aint throwing drop them for a few secodns and put em back up as you go again.
I was taught to do what i said by a former British and European champion and the idea is that you move out of striking distance first actually and circle which encourages you to be more than a pad monkey until its your turn to throw.
They cant hit you when your not in range, when the distance is closed again of course the pads come up.
@bNoX81 my forearm is sore from holding pads and absorbing all the kicks of this skinny training partner of mine. i wonder how my arms would feel if yod is the one kicking.hehehe
I held pads for a guy yesterday that left me feeling like my forearms were going to snap in half. I have giant, nasty bruises today. After about 13 kicks into a "10 left, 10 right", I had to hand him off to the trainer. I'm still pretty new, so I'm assuming that your forearms get conditioned just like your shins eventually do.
er. it may be because u dont press the pads down when the guy kicks so you absorb all the impact. try to put your whole body into it when you hold the pads and it should help.
the reason why they'd hurt so much varies tho...obviously having someone who kicks like a bull as your partner will contribute to that. but some gyms provide really dodgy foam pads, they feel soft and light, but when it comes down to kicking it, it's not really doing the pad holder much good. where as you can get some much tougher and heavier leather ones, which will protect the holder alot more and conditions the shins of thekicker more at the same time. (checkout the king's oval pads)
Waddd?? You know, when I hold those pads up for my friend to kick, and he doesn't learn muay thai or anytin, just doing a normal kick. (I bet anyone can do a normal snap kick), The force already kocked me backwards and my whole arm feels the shock. How can you guys, resist those powerful kicks? hmm?
There's technique to holding pads, they are using very durable pads and they're tough. It hurts to hold pads for someone who hits hard, suck it up. As for Yod holy shit, I know it's mostly the echo but those kicks sound like a cannon.
He kicks hard eh? His calf muscles are like fuckin' basketballs inside his skin! I can't imagine a leg like that hittin me, I would snap in half.....

good idea. so when you fight youll throw a combo and drop your arms, and while youre backing off with your arms down you can get kicked in the head.

Yeah they get conditioned. After a little while you can hold pads for hard kicks no problem. Just keep doing it.
