Compare Ladies & Gents"1972 with "Some Girls live in Texas 1978 - no more proof needed that Ronnie is the ULTIMATE stone of the two.
Maybe M. Taylor has better technique, but he lacks emotion in his playing. DEAD FLOWERS from Ladies & Gents sounds like he is rehearsing his scales without any consideration for anything else - he doesn't even change anything when Mick's vocals start again. Ronnie's a great guitarist, way better together with Keith and knows when NOT to play - almost as important
You are so wrong. Comparing 1 performance is not enough. I have heard the Stones in recent years play songs from Sticky and Exile where Ronnie Wood just butchers Mick Taylor's licks and riffs. If you want to compare anything, compare how they play the older 60's songs on bootlegs. Mick Taylor is WAAAAAAAAAY better than Wood, and contributed to much better things besides Ronnie's "Some Girls" which is no Let it Bleed or Sticky Fingers, or Exile.
@TromatonicGeneral well, that's certainly a generous view of woody - not shared by many who actually saw the mt stones perform. but then that's what makes horse races. it's said that ron wood is the luckiest guy in the music business. why for, d'y'spose?
@boweryhester Ah, yes, Ronnie is certainly a lucky man! And I ws glad they didn't pick Wayne Perkins instead of him :O) I saw the stones first in 1973, where Keith almost only played rhythm. Next was 1976 where the "weaving" of the guitars began and was in awe. Saw M.Tayor with Bill's Rhtm Kings 2 yrs or so ago and he was kinda drunk which was a bit awkward as the audience was really looking forward to his guest performance. (BTW I also love Ronnie's solo work a LOT).
What did Ronnie mean by "II don't know how longs the piece of string?"

For the fifty year reunion tour, if there is one, should include Taylor and Wood!
