@385chev well you got to think their was not enough water to have multiple hose lines out at the same time they had to wait till they had enough water plus their was powerlines down
Its funny how the fire dept is the first to be blamed when your house fully made of combustible material burns up in a matter of minutes. You also chose to build in a rural area. Volunteer fire delta are just like any other career dept unless your in the big city one block from the station.
maybe the guy that is badmouthing the fire dept should volunteer to see exactly how long it takes to get to the fire department from work,or home when the call goes out, then get suited up in gear, and to get the fire equipment to the fire without wrecking or killing someone, I think the volunteers did a great job for what they had to endure. So Sign up to help and stop criticising the ones who put their time and lives on the line, you did the easy part and called 911, they get the hard part.
Both Comox and Courtenay are getting population sizes that require full time fire staff. It's a pretty unique area though as there are highly populated suburbs and sparsely populated rural areas very close together. Good job by the Department.
sorry for the loss. please realize it is sometimes difficult for fire department who are volunteer to find enough help to handle a fire of this size during the daytime especially. many work and some don't. i am a volunteer and sometimes it takes our men and women 10 minutes or more to get to the station depending on traffic and weather then another 10 or so to get to the call. trust me 20 minutes is a rather good response time in most volunteer covered areas. they did the best they could.
Ooh, that sound of shattering glass gives me the shivers. If you listen, you can hear the fire gathering speed and forocity as it devours everything in its path. This is my worst nightmare, yes sir, my very worst. My sympathies go to whoever lived in this place.
I live in the country (Bossier Parish La.) we have a paid/vol fire dept. parish wide it takes our fire dept about 10-15 to arrive at the fire scene. In the city limits of Bossier City the response time is 3-4 min. living in the country has advantages and disadvantages.
What's the point of having a Fire Department at all if the building will have burned to the ground before anyone even gets there? This town needs to set up Hydrants & hoses so that the neighbors could do something to save a house.
Hydrants are funded by public taxes in municipalities. Rural areas typically cant afford to install water lines because of the cost versus income. Thats also why rural areas have volunteer FD's instead of paid departments. There's just not enough money to go around. Want faster response times? Tell local govt to stop cutting public safety budgets. Theyre gambling with YOUR life.
@Lazyike67 Seriously? If you think along those lines you should also blame the home owner for not having set up a sprinkler system. Houses are lost to fire even in big citys. MONEY. All those things cost money. Lots of it.
@Lazyike67 Be sure to tell that to your local dept and inform your neighbors of your BRILLIANT plan. Make sure your trapped too and let's see how good of a job they do of getting you out...alive.
@Lazyike67 they can save the exteriors like when the firefighters first got on scene they were putting water on the house across from the one that was burning. and volly departments dont just put out fires they also cut people out of cars, take injured or sick people to the hospital, water rescue and so on!
@margretzp This is a volunteer Fire Dept which is a 10 min drive from this location. Considering the firefighters would have been at home or at work and made it to the Hall, suited up and were rolling within 10 minutes is a very good response time. Ir definitely felt much longer standing there waiting. They also had to run 1400 feet of hose since there were no hydrants near this house.
@margretzp You obviously have no clue on how volunteer fire departments work. A dumb ass comment from a uneducated person who has probably NEVER put their life on the line to save the life or property of a stranger. So until you can say you have, don't comment on videos that you know nothing about!
