@ZombifyIt you can easily smuggle a knife-blade in your belt-closing (? in german "Gürtelschnalle") onboard a plane and of course offboard :P but perhaps it is indeed better to buy it where you want to go when youre there because you dont want to use the knife on the plane and the risk of being caught isnt worth the 12€/$/(I have no key for Pound on my keyboard) for a new knife... i wish you good luck where ever you go to now... if you do so. maybe you were just joking :D
Won't the wood driven into the ground rot after a while? How long is the lifetime of a shelter such as this? I've lived in cities throughout my life, my knowledge in these things are limited.
The first ridge pole should be on the other side of the tree (the far side from the video perspective). This enables much of the force to be taken off of the tie mechanism, and pushed up against the tree. Great video though. Love the "real action".
Simple builders trick for trigonometry of a right angle without sin/cos/tan, if you measure out a triangle on 2 walls, of lengths 3 and 4, then if the angle is 90deg the hypotenuse will be 5.
Your video is really great. But I have one question. Would it be better to use two standing trees for the opening. Instead of one tree plus tripod? Why would you use a tripod?
Nice shelter, I wish I had a forrest like that in my surroundings, it's so much vegetation on the forrest floors where I live and almost only pinetrees, mosquitos is a big problem during summer aswell so it's tough to go out and do something like this, you'd have to wait until early autum to get the right weather, or spring maybe.. during winter it gets really hostile.. 1 meter + of snow and and down to -25 celsius
@mistermarijn If you watch his older videos, he explains why they're good for these kinds of things. I've been doing that as well, makes things alot easier, and they're light weight, small and take up little room. I'm not sure why i didn't think of doing that before.
@greenhorns99 You can use evergreen branches as roof materials. Shingle it like you would a house starting on the bottom from left to right or right to left. with a nice overlap. building one level at a time until you reach the top. This will water proof your shelter. Or if your in a area with palm leaves they work well too. You might have to change them out if its an extended stay
I never liked the lean to style of shelter,. I want to be covered on all sides... makes me feel safer and cozier at nite. I dont want to be visible and just be under a canopy, Know what I mean? I like being fully surrounded by walls.
I'm going to add zip ties to my kit...

@Honken A long time ! It depends on how well and how you build it ! If you build it right it will stay up and last a respectable amount of time

Forgive me for being a little pedantic but arent using unrecyclable cable ties a bit out of kilter with forest dwelling?
Otherwise great vids

@Andythecat11 Sounds to me like he's only using them in this video to save time due to the limited video length that he has on youtube
