  • Ugh the terrible shit that passed for comedy back in the day.

  • @jacobtallman and todays comedy is better??? One thought um today's comedy is worse now dropping F bombs and a bombs after each and everyword. I'd say that this was the best of any comedy I have ever heard.

  • je skvělej!

  • Does this guy have tourette's?

  • @Sherpaful Nope it is an act he does/did.

  • lol i cant get enough of this! especially 2:26

  • This guy is 230 trillion times funnier than Dane Cook. Which isn't saying much.

  • I am laughing so hard that I can barely make a comment!! xDDD I like this dude so much. I have to mention that he does not speak in so much profanity unlike the ones we hear nowadays. Do not get me wrong I still laugh at those comedians.

  • Not funny at all. And I used to like him.:-)

  • NAAAAAHT FUNNY.

  • this guy isnt as bad as opie and anthony made him out to be

  • @htezerdi no, he is.

  • Awww, miss this funny man so much. Saw him in Vegas doing the Frankensteikn routine - wish someone could find that - he was a brilliant man, long before today's "comedians"! Love the WC byte ! We all miss ya - forever RIP Charlie.....

  • Charlie made lots of people laugh....me included. Call him what you will. He brought joy to many. That is all that matters to me. If he was a "hack"....so be it. He was one funny hack! :-)

  • Funnier then Mike Destefano....

  • Exactly! And if that is all you have seen of him....shame on you nickypeeps.

  • Look at that face! If he did the voice he could also have done a stunning Bill Cosby impression.

  • God Bless You, Charlie. Keep 'em laughing in heaven.

  • A true comic genius....its cool watching him crack up a little too!!! I did not know he passed...Jan 27/11. 83 yrs old. RIP Charlie and thanks for the laughs! :-)

  • They owe everything to Jerry Lewis

  • "i'm gonna sh...,i"m gonna sh...,i'm gonna sh...,

    not here you aint!"

he always left me in tears. he was the original wacky comic. robin williams and jim carrey owe their careers to charlie. God bless you, charlie, and thanks for so many belly laughs. R.I.P.

  • Loved him in the 60s/70s! RIP, Charlie.

  • OMG IM DYING, My stomach hurts from laughing and tears are rolling!!!

  • @jeffnlisa Not a bit of vulgarity at all. I loved Charlie.

  • Love you, Charlie!! I got the pleasure of living across the street from you these last 7 years and you always made me and so many others laugh. Rest in peace.

  • Now I know were rap music came from.

  • some foks don't understand classic comedy and talent.

  • Absolutely brilliant! This guy always made me laugh.

  • Kinda sad, I heard about this fellow from the LA Times Obituary Column. You'd think they would have talked about him more as a celebrated comedian. I'll have to see more, but I like what I am seeing, R.I.P.

  • R.I.P. Charlie. Unlike the comedians of today, you truly were funny and entertaining. You will be missed.

  • RIP Charlie. Thanks for the laughs.

  • I knew Charlie Callas' father. He worked at Exxon in Maywood NJ. He father was very proud of Charlie. Charlie had a gift. I am in show business and i can assure you that 80% of the comedians today have ripped off Charlie's materal. He was constantly the highlight of the Dean Martin Roasts. He is one of the few Stars that stayed close friends with both Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin over the years that each did not speak to each other. That says a lot about a persons character

  • I don't get it. What's so funny? He just keeps making annoying honking noises.

  • RIP Charlie, youll be missed!

  • back when comedy was worth watching and listening to. You will be missed!

  • He knows this is so funny, he kept laughing himself. This is an awesome clip. thanks for the posting.

  • rest in peace

  • never heard of him before seems a great comic will be missed

  • Great fellow, always good for laughs. Never appreciated by the mainstream. Thanks for the laughs :)

  • RIP Charlie, there are few comics like you, thanks for the laughs!

  • One of my fave comedians of all time. Loved him in Big Mouth!

  • RIP Charlie, I will never forget you buddy. I love your jokes and keep them laughing in heaven.

  • RIP Charlie, you were truly Godsent.

  • “Johnny Carson was also impressed by Callas…

“Then came the night of Sept. 21, 1982.

“With Callas bombing, Carson made a whistling-buzzing sound — as if tracing a bomb’s trajectory. In comic desperation, Callas leaned over and shoved Carson. Carson… was so annoyed that… in front of his television audience, he told Callas that he’d never appear on the show again. Carson kept his word.”

    NYT obit.

  • @antho214 actually, he just died recently. i guess it was a premature R.I.P. he was a funny man.

  • @antho214

humm.. he is now passed. rip Charlie

  • @antho214

    Not anymore.

  • @antho214 Not anymore RIP Charlie

  • @antho214

Until today. Now he's dead as a doornail.

  • @antho214 Charlie died today.

  • RIP Honey....

  • Rest in peace. The reason I'm calling is that today is your death day and we all pitched in to buy you a present...

  • He actually died today. RIP Charlie

  • @drmowrey No, He actually died yesterday, January 27, 2011 at the age of 86.

  • reminds me of Dick Van Dyke, Mel Blanc and Jerry Lewis.

  • @antho214 Unfortunately, after today, not anymore. RIP Charlie.

  • @antho214 not any more!~

  • @antho214 He ain't now,R.I.P to one of the all-time funniest comics.

  • @antho214 He died yesterday 27 January 2011 at the age of 86.

  • @antho214 He died yesterday 27 January 2011 at the age of 86.

  • Charlie Callas just passed away at age 86 1/28/2011

  • RIP Charlie :(

  • @antho214 Sadly, Charlie just passed away last night. Remembered him from Switch with Robert Wagner and Eddie Albert. RIP Charlie, you will truely be missed!

  • the vast majority of people watching this dont get the phone dialing reference.

  • WOW WOW WOW WOW

  • @antho214 He resides in las vegas

  • This mans still alive n kicking. Still a jokester here in vegas

  • This man is beyond funny. His facial expressions & the sounds he makes when stuttering are side splitting. It doesn't matter if the joke is funny or not. Just watching him tell it is enough to make one wet their pants. If anyone has not yet seen his hysterical performance in "The Big Mouth" watch it the first chance you get. He steals the movie.

  • This reminds me exactly of the phone conversation that I had today about throwing a birthday party for myself and hoping no one would show up.

  • i found out who he is from a Simpsons episode in Branson,Missouri where he was making funny noises on stage. Simpsons has officially spoofed everyone!

  • This is so original. Charlie is a treasure! Great fun!!!

  • I LOVED this guy....was so damned funny!!!

  • Was the character of Klunk from Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines based on Charlie Callas?

  • Today's my HUHHHH today's my HUHHHH

Now I remember what made me start stuttering back in the late 60's...

  • CHARLIES GREATEST CHARACTER IS THE INFAMOUS CAPTAIN WEIRD.THIS SHIT WILL MAKE YOU PISS YOURSELF.I WAS ENTERTAINED FOR MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD BY THIS GUY,CAPTAIN WEIRD IS A COMBINATION OF ALL HIS ABILITY.ITS AMAZING .I WOULD BE ASTOWNDED IF SOMEONE COULD FIND THIS MATERIAL...CHARIE,THANK YOU FOR MY BEST CHILDHOOD TV MOMENTS...YOU NUMBER 1 FAN GREGANDREWS@MAIL.COM

  • Gosh this guy is great.

  • @matthewmtt This guy is so silly and I love him because his humor is so great.

  • I like to download this guy.

  • I've tried imitating Charlie. I can't. You can't. Nobody can :)

  • So charlie was fired on live air from johnny for pushing him ,I wonder where i can find that video anywhere?

  • Good for everyone next generation of that Jim Carrey is great as well as Charlie Callas taught him or never know

  • this sucks........LOL

  • nobody better.

  • Love the comedy bird sound Charlie makes at 3:34. This is hysterical!

  • "looks like a moose... stutters... ::BANG:: shoot some birds!"

  • I don't get it. Is the funny part where me makes the weird "uuuurhh" noises?

  • I'd love to see the clip from Carson where Callas does the Indian character - giving the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce report. Does anyone have it?

  • Wish I could find his old routine about an Indian and bows and arrows!!! anybody know or ever hear of it??

  • Sorry, my fault. I thought he passed a few years back. Glad he`s still with us.

Sorry Charlie. Didn`t mean to say goodbye early. Hope you`re around another 100 years!! You`re a class act!!

  • That`s knee slappin` humor there! RIP Charlie. You`re still making people laugh!!

  • @whyyeseyec Hes staring in a movie this october

  • @whyyeseyec Timeliness is next to goodliness.

  • I love him. I always watched him when I was growing up. Still makes me laugh today. Thanks for posting

  • Everyone was influenced by everyone. I love Callas -- he's an original. Jonathon Winters should have had the career that Robin Williams had. And then we have Carrot Top -- doing Rip Taylor's concept.

  • You think Charlie was influenced by Jerry Lewis? And you think Jim Carrey was influenced by Charlie? :)

  • I tried imitating Charlie Callas. I think I sprained my face :)

  • I laughed till I cried!

  • wahahaha!! a genius!!

  • Charlie Callas is a scream. Love him. I've been a fan since his days on the Dean Martin celebrity roasts.

  • Still hilarious years later. Esp @ 4:05, "Hit The Drum!"

  • Charlie is 85 this year.

  • dumb...

    frrrrrrunkis!!!

  • According to Charlie's website, he did stutter when he was young. Reading Shakespeare is what cured him of it.

  • Where is Charlie these days ?? Love this guy

  • Love how Charlie cracks himself up!

  • Today's my bouh, today's my bouh... Today's My Birthday. Very funny as well as his entire bit.

  • This is your fouh...this is your fouh. fy fy friend. hilarious

  • Now I know who Jim Carrey ripped off.

  • @rayjr62 Ripping off would imply he stole bits.

  • @rayjr62 How right you are!

  • charlie is or was an acomplished jazz drummer, check out some of his videos on u-tube. when ever buddy rich was in vegas and if charlie was in the audience he would let charlie sit in with his band,, quite an honour. he is a very talented manwho deserved more recodnition that was accorded him.

  • Saw Charlie's Shotgun Routine 2 other times-Carson and the Flip Wilson. On Flip Wilson, the audience in the round were literally falling our of their seats laughing. He'd polished up Shotgun by then and it was the funniest standup routine ever. God Bless you Charlie -- you are a good man - you made those days cherished memories.

  • Thanks for the info. I assume this clip is from Jerry Lewis' talk show. I recall that Charlie was Jerry's sideman -cohost

  • Thank God for Youtube.

I've been looking for this routine forever.

    Charlie's the funniest!

  • To all who love Charlie!

We visited with him last week and he is doing great! Still as funny as ever. There will never be another like Charlie. We love him and his wife dearly.

  • Please give Mr. Callas my best wishes -- a longtime huge fan. So glad to hear that he is doing well.

  • Your friends with Charlie???

  • A REALLY good drummer as well!!!

  • Charlie works in "Winchester Cathedral", "In The Mood" WC Fields and an accurate shotgun gauge reference -- he's great!!!

  • I saw Charlie open for Sinatra in 1981 at Resorts International in A.C. when I was 17! GREAT show!

  • Callas is a master! Wasn't he Jerry Lewis' sidekick on his short lived talk show?

  • does anyone know what happened to him?

  • according to the simpsons he ended up in branson??? he might have done...

  • I heard that he's 82 years old...God bless him. I know he's bought a lot of laughter to me and to many. There's no comedian like him today.

  • this guy was talent!

  • i read that he used to be a a a stutterer

  • He is just making fun of anyone who stutters. Either he himself stutters through a routine, or he is he imitating someone who is. Though I must say he is very funny and camera friendly.

Those organizations for speech issues would probably be offended by this kind of humor.

p.s.: I heard about this guy by watching the 13th episode of the 13th season of Simpsons (Old Man and the Key) -- he was featured in a Branson, MO musical.

  • I've stuttered for fifty years and I thinks Callus is the freakin limit

  • now thats good comedy

  • A year later. I still laugh my ass off on this one...THE GREATEST

  • Oops, I meant another one of the comedy greats.

  • Was that Jerry Lewis cracking up at 1:38? He was enough one of the comedy greats of years past.

  • The genious part about this is that after a while the joke doesnt matter anymore at all, its the way he does the joke that counts, its so good that the joke and the clue doesnt matter in a way..

    Brilliant!

  • To "The Leisure Pirate",i.e., Captain Jack Sparrow:

Examine your own masculinity! Mine's fine--

I've got girls in every port! I like Charlie Callas for lotsa' LUSTY LAUGHS only!!!

  • One of the greats. He did a very funny segment about Joan Collins posing in Playboy.

  • Charlie was the best.. THERE ARE NOT ANY COMEDIANS LEFT LIKE CHARLIE... I STILL watch THIS OVER AND OVER ..LOVE YOU Charlie

  • Thanks so much for posting this I had been looking all over for it but we always remembered it like it was yesterday. I first saw this like a year ago my brother and I are so glad someone had it. I'm surprised that a Charlie Callas DVD has never been released with this footage as far as I know.

  • Very, very funny! Today, someone would take offense of this act as making fun of people with disabilities. Not politically correct or something.

  • Too bad, because it's funny.

  • PC wasn't applicable in the 70's.

  • Charlie Callas is the best. Cant get enough of this video. Watch it every morning to get the day started. Good work Charlie!!!!!!!!

  • Charlie Callas at his best. We can't get enough of this video. Even though we know what's coming we still laugh like crazy at it.We watch the same video to get our day started. We watch it over and over again. We can't get enough of CHARLIE CALLAS!!!. He's the best.

  • Schizophrenic much?

Sorry that was a lame jokoy-joke. I love Charlie too. Altough not as much as you do, what you appear to be feeling is pure lust. I just appreciate him as a comedian.

    TPHS

  • Highlight for me: A pop culture joke. When he says Winchester he almost imperceptibly starts to say "Cathedral." That was a big song in the 60s.

  • another great comic...does anyone remember his captain weird on the andy williams show?

hysterical! i remember this kind of skit in a movie he made with jerry lewis the bellhop i think

  • Charlie Callas is one of the most decent comedians that I ever listened to. We've watched this clip over and over and it's just as funny as the first time. I like his stuff because it doesn't have any FOUL LANUAGE in it. Where did all the good comics get to? There ought to be more LIKE CHARLIE CALLIS!!!

  • He's actually doing a new film as we speak

"Horrorween" My favorite was when he played Frank Sinatras body guard during Franks Roast by Dean Martin.

  • Charlie broke me up years ago,and he breaks me up now!I beleive he broke up Carson, too.

  • At 1:37 that is Jerry Lewis laughing in the wings.

  • ....ya' think?

  • Saw Charlie do this on T.V. first time . This time I think it was on the Jerry Lewis Telathon for M.D.. If you look close you see him for a few seconds in the background laughing! He (Jerry) really loved it ! Charlie is a comic Genius!!!!.

  • Charlie brings back such great memories!

My whole family loved him and his act. Remember Charlie's "trademark" wearing a white bridal gown and veil? OMG! He beats Corp. Klinger from M.A.S.H.!

    JM

  • I have watched this routine at least a dozen times and can't stop laughing. Even though I know what's coming it's still so very funny. The man's a genius. A big thanks to the provider.

  • laughing my ass off. great video thanks.

  • Remember him in the seventies and this is so0000 hysterical, the folks in the audience must be wetting in their drawers...

  • Robin WIlliams is a great performer, but he's a well known thief. He steals from a LOT of comics, mostly unknown ones he sees in clubs and he rapes their minds. Charlie Callas is a true original!

  • i wonder if he ever gave robin williams lessons?

  • I watched this clip again after some time. It's killer. Truly, a gifted performer. So I did a little research. As far as I can tell, Charlie is still among us. Will be 83 in December.

  • Funny is funny. Sam Kinison, George Carlin and RIchard Pryor were so called "dirty" and were still brilliant, but you're right about most of the "comics" today being foul mouthed just for the sake of being foul mouthed and they suck big time. They sure don't make 'em like Callas, Hope, Benny, Foster Brooks and the other old timers anymore!

  • I remember seeing Charlie do this bit on Ed Sullivan in the 1960's. You are right: today's so called "comics" have to use 4 letter words to get a laugh. Their audience appreciates no talent, foul mouthed "comics".

  • Charlie was my favourite comedian when I was 10 years old. He taught me that being extremely over the top crazy is a life long gift to be shared... being the youngest of 5 brothers I surely couldn't miss getting attention with his material.

What a brilliant combination of wit, charm and timing. Thanx for posting this vid. I think... I'll (phhttt) I just might (fahhfa ya' hee-heah) buy some of his videos ;)

  • i watch this once aday to make me laugh

  • i loved this guy when I was younger - I remembered Captain Weird the other day, and have trolled the net trying to find him. This clip was worth every minute of surfing! What a brilliant bloke!

  • The best there ever was. How lucky I logged onto your video. Am still laughing convulsively, knocked over a whole flute of cheap champagne too

  • WTF????

  • I dicovered Charlie for the first time on the Andy Williams Show doing his Capt. Weird bit. He can also be seen in British entertainer Des O'connor's variety show and as a guest on the Flip Wilson Show. His appearances on Flip Wilson were hilarious. He is one of the greatest impressionists I've seen. Looking like no-one he could look, act and sound like anyone.

  • Amazingly original! He's been performing for over 40 years and his material still holds up! You can still knock 'em dead today, Charlie!
