Libya was made rich because of natural resources. He did not make Libya rich, but he exploited the natural resources of LIbya for himself and the remains for the nation. A country has grown rich does not mean the Government is good. Possibly, the riches of Libya had made Gaddafi to be more tyrannical, and taking its citizens' life for granted. @8098991 I may be interpreting you wrong, and correct me if I am, but I feel like you view the US Gov fund like a big dipping pot of money, money is taken and distributed to each area of the gov. So the external debt, at this point, does not affect defense spending. Now if Congress is to decide to cut some defense due to the debt, then that amount will go down. But not until the next US yearly budget that brings the Defense fund down... and honestly I don't like any of the candidates for 2012...

He killed off any opposition to his rulership when he first began - even executing 500 of his party members by sending them straight out to a firing squad. One thing about Muammar Gadaffi was that he had such a presence whenever he was in a room, most people were too afraid to respond to him. We will miss him and his rousing speeche, even though I must admit, I have seen more of his speeches on youtube than on television because I live in a western country. Still, youtube has a wider audience - and people will see this courageous leader in his element as he boldly spoke about things that would leave most powerful leaders heading for the exit!.

The only prominent leader of this millenium to die in battle. A man lied about and murdered alongside all his countryment who fought to defend their nation against terrorist rebels without his nation and greedy powerful nations outside of his country. The real winners are those countries who will divide up the oil contracts between each other.

@rcasoundhmv- He was murdered by a multinational miltary force of powerful nations, who bombed libya for 8 months - destroying their infrastucture and killing everyone beneath. he was also kllled by Al Qaeda rebels who came from Algeria, Iraq, and all over the middle east and north Africa. he kept the al Qaeda rebels in Libya from spreading their murderous ways in his country, and that is who killed him. Not his people, who turned out to support and fight alongside him. They died alongside him

The mercenaries from Africa and the Al Qaeda were the last of the mohicans for Muammar. If they are his people it would not be hundreds but millions of people. In fact, I will quote the book Fuel on the Fire by Greg Mutitt and advise that you buy it or see if it is in your local library, and then sit down and learn some "real history" of how Iraq and its people came to be under fire in 2003, and what happened to their oil afterward. The same scenario played out in Libya. Only difference is that Muammar Gadaffi and his people fought to the death.
