  • marvelous and so sweet

three is the number of achievement

  • im 20 years old, im born in ireland, grew up here, live here, but my young years and my teenage years were spent listening to 50's and 60's american chart and mostly country. for that ill always thank my mother, for this kind of music has helped me through countless times in my life

  • aint got nuthin on fuck da police by niggaz wit attitude

  • Wondering if anyone has heard of or know the Title to a song by the Brown (I'm sure); the lyrics I recall (from the Sixties) are:

"Thank you, Lord for making him stronger,

for letting him stay with us just a little longer.

He's the sunshine of our circle, the love and laughter around our table,

we'll cherish him forever and ever."

    Thank you in advance.

  • For me also, number 1 on the charts the week I was born

  • Number One on the Charts the week I was born! :)

  • > anit-religeous bigoty... Oh yeah, wth is Driooing?

    Skitt's Law!

Jabberwock clearly fat-fingered "drooling", and you vehemently attack him for THAT? You betray yourselves. Jabber criticized not religion itself, but merely the banal religiosity of this song.

It's a pretty song, nicely performed, and the subject is universal. People are born, they live their lives, and they die. Poignant? Yes. Profound? No. An example of beauty in simplicity? Yes. But really--there ain't a whole lot there.

  • Nice harmonies!

  • Love this song... thanks Curt for reminding me of it!

  • this guy is a radio dj now in WV 1051

  • gives me goosebumps I loved it when i was 13 and still do

  • when was this recorded?

  • @kornkid22 Don't have the date of the studio session, but the single was released just after the 4th of July, 1959.

  • original by Edith Piaf

  • we used to play this as a kid with my mam and dad

  • Wenn die Glocken hell erklingen

  • This is the first time I have ever seen the faces to the voices of such a beautiful song...WOW! thank you so much

  • Drooling commercial religiosity.

  • I've heard them perform this & "The Old Lamplighter @ the Ryman during Fan Fair & it is & will forever remain a true classic.

  • Driooing with false religiosity too. Yuck.

  • @Jabberwock02 Driooing? Seriously? Don't check what you type much? Takes away from the point you are trying to make. Which I don't agree with. It's not dripping with false religiosity. It's in the same vein of the original.

  • Keep your anit-religeous bigoty to your sorry self. Ignorant fool. Oh yeah, wth is Driooing? Learn to spell idiot.

  • Cheap American cover of the original, which was by Les Compagnons de la Chanson, out of the wreckage of post-WW11 Europe.

No meaning, , no emotion, empty listening, empty gloss.

    Covering a treasure is theft.

  • A wonderful song. I wish music could be written and performed like that in this day and age, but talent appears to have been severely curtailed.

  • I played this song for a group of Spanish language students who were learning English. They loved this song and wanted to sing it every day.

  • my grandpa used to love this song, it relates so much to his life and his nick name was Jimmie. I love yo and miss you so much grandpa and you will always be in my memories.

  • This is a wonderful song. The fact that it is performed by a true family is particularly charming. They do it so well. It is a fitting tribute to the orginal version by the great Frech singer, Edith Piaf "Les trois cloches". Google it. Both versions are fantastic!

  • simple song that says a lot.

  • his eyes weird off his tits aint he

  • Comment removed

  • jim has an air of perfection about him in this performance. Bristling with gloss and shining energy.

  • Not ashamed to tell ya all,i have tears in my eyes, this song comes from better times both musically and socially,it grieves me to witness the passing of those days of innocense, good luck to the future generations they will need it i think.

  • @friding999 i'm with you there 100%

  • @friding999

Don't mourn too hard for the "loss of innocence" and "Society". This was an age when Racism and Sexism were still rampant and acceptable traits.

Music may have stagnated but atleast "Future Generations" are now less bigoted.

  • @anonymoose84 How old are you? rampant and acceptable? no it wasn't

  • jim edgar

  • @telemetry9 Misses Ed, the talking Seattle Slew. All those ottis, oddest, VA secretaries -- Secretariat.

  • Amen. Heart warming to hear a story with a view beyond our world.

  • He looks like a Thunderbird puppet :)~

  • A great song done by a great trio. I always wondered, though, whether Jim Ed Brown had to be talked into it, considering the"stunt-casting," if you will, of having"Little Jimmy Brown" sing this song? Or did he love the song and want to do it? You know people must have brought up this song countless times to him; his response has put all their questions to rest.

  • On Aug 21 in 1959,

"The Three Bells" by the Browns was the #1 song.

  • awesome!!! praise Jesus Christ!!! this is kind of how it goes, Jimmy Brown had a good life in this song, it sounds sad but, that line...a soul winged its way to heaven, hallelujah!!! this is an awesome song. Jim Ed Brown and The Browns sooo good, great post.

  • What a terrific old song. Why can't they still make good songs like this?

  • Comment removed

  • Great song long remembered wow I was just a kid also.... Mom loved their music. Thanks for the post.

  • His eyes are hyper-creepy.

  • this is my grand mother uncle and aunt :)

  • When I was a little girl in the 60's my parents would put "old" country music on the record player. My life has been enriched because of talent like the Three Bells. I love this song as well as The Little Lamplighter. Now, it's 2011 and because of today's technology I can revisit my childhood and enjoy treasures like this.

  • I remember when this was popular. If it had been 52 ore 53, I would have only been 4 so I looked it up. It was popular in 1959

  • Great song. I was a little kid when this came out.

  • I used to listen to a bedside radio late at night when I was a teenager. Heard this song one night when I was 14 (1952-53)...an instant favorite...still is.

  • Absolutly Lovely

  • I wore the hole out on my little 45 of this I would play it over and over I remember it like yesterday my father was in a near fatal truck accident Iof course our generation got cheated out of everything,So I could see my injurded father or Grandfather dying of Cancer even tho I was a well behaved NINE year old!.We ate last then,We eat last now,We had to mind,Kids no longer have to mind We respected our parents and elders they will spit in your face today. But thanks for posting this Gem

  • AMAZING..THANKS SO MUCH..

    ERIK TIELMAN, FLORIDADADAAA

  • I had this record way back when and I had no idea what they looked like. Thank you so much for posting. ('sbrown8758' I pray God is giving you peace and comfort after losing your husband). ~OneKewpie~

  • vito spatafore

  • Beautiful!

  • SOMEONE DUBSTEP THIS

  • ahh.. i can't express my feelings with words about this song.

    i just love it.

  • my dad bought this song for me on the day that i was born and he has always gone on about it, it brought a tear to my eye when i heard it as i have always heard him humming it .

  • How can people dislike this.. they must have really sad lives.

  • Crying as I type this message...where did the years go? While preparing for my last wishes I am going to have this song played when my time comes. God Bless everyone...Have a good 4th of July. JPW Just Plain Wayne

  • I listen to this song daily (along with MANY others by The Browns) and it always brings a tear to my eye. The Browns music is timeless (and Jim Ed's)..My wish is that this kind of music would make a comeback as it is MUCH better than what we have today!! Thanks for posting and thanks to The Browns for making the music.

  • @2790Dusty i watched there other VID they still sound great.

But growing old is a BITCH the mind is willing but the body is startting pack up???

As long as i can still ride my motor bike,s im OK

    LOVE THE BROWN,S

  • @2790Dusty Check out Daves Highway - 2 sisters and a brother. Their harmony has been compared to the first harmony like they have since the Browns by a man in the music business since 1947. They are only in their teens, but I have no doubt they'll reach the top. Daves is their last name and they're on YouTube.

  • this song is so sweet it almost brings tears to my eyes.

  • We played this 45 over and over and children in the 50's & 60's. It was one of those semi-clear red ones. Does anyone remember those types of 45's?

  • @moonlit51 Sure. All of us that are getting older now remember the music & the records including the red ones.

  • Now that's music!!! Love, Love it!!!

  • i first heard this song at the grand ole opry when i was 11...it made me sad

  • The Browns got their start to fame on the Coca Cola Amateur Hour on the Pine Bluff, Ar.television station. (I think it was KARK-TV). Week after week they kept winning.

  • Beautiful.God Bless.

  • this is my grand mother aunt and uncle

  • 7 people disliked this beautiful song, you need a life

  • How can you dislike this song????

  • what a lovely video.. Great harmony.. Warms your heart

  • i love and miss you grandpa.....i honor your memory by teaching my kids all the great lessons of life you taught me.....hard work, respect, and the love of the great music that is our heritage

  • @Tulebug1 Don't know you, but I honor "You" for a great post. I think Jim Ed would too.

  • Dust to dust, the human story.

  • /watch?v=L8B-NF1gDDg

  • A great song ,sung from the heart or with feeling, by The Browns.Fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

  • I think they were from Pine Bluff ,Ark and that Elvis used to hang w/ them a lot.

  • @DrHogfan yes he Did if you want to read about their life i would recamend Looking Back To See The Book it is Amazing

  • my wonderful grndmother used to sing this song to me

  • I used to hear the original version when I was a child, because my father and uncles sang it at every familly celebration. It seems that Americans don't know this isn't the true original version of the song. The true one was called Les Trois Cloches and was played by Les Compagnons de la Chanson and Edith Piaf in 1946, that's to say 13 years before The Browns' rerun. I reckon it was good to remember it, because I don't think many people knew that.

  • Always loved the browns how easy it is to forget. Thank you

  • I used to have this 'record' when I was a teen. I heard it recently on the Sopranos. Thanks for posting:)

  • For reasons I don't understand they are huge in Germany !

  • i have been in rock bands all my life but i still remember this song from childhood and i hate country oh we back to the rock seen...thank you for posting it..

  • A remarkably talented family. They made a fortune for RCA Victor records!

  • I haven't heard this song for many many years. I always thought is was such a pretty song.

  • They aged very well.

  • Terrific song & video ~ Thanks for posting ~ brings back many fond memories of the 'baby boomer' generation of the 50's, 60's, & 70's ~ This song received very much airplay on the AM radio stations back then just as FM radio was being introduced~!

  • My grammy introduced this song to me. Have loved it ever since. I miss you grandma!

  • I remember the 78 RPm my parents had of this song back in the 1950's. I loved it then and I love it now.

  • Can't beat family harmonies. We love this song. It is timeless....

  • Love this song, his voice is so smooth

  • MY grand mother Great aunt And Great UNCLE JImmey brown

  • Want to see and hear the future of traditional country music?

    type in and watch:

    Beamer Devils Dress

This 8 year old singer - songwriter is quite the talent and could very well be a leader in country music for his generation.

See more on his home channel. This will get you there.

  • This song haunted me for years. My Mother used to play it, too. I wrote to Jim Brown last year and asked him what his inspiration was. Such a sweet song! He actually had quite a career. Remember, he wrote and sang, Pop-A-Top years before Alan Jackson did.

  • The "simplest" songs are the most beautiful.

  • Probably one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I can remember it from when I was young.

  • they should pop a top

  • I have always loved Jim Ed Brown. This music was a little before my time, but I remember growing up my parents were into George Jones and Conway Twitty and while I liked them too I fell in love with Jim Ed Brown. I just loved the sweetness on his face and the softness of his voice, and I've always been a sucker for songs that tell a story. I've seen him a few times at the opry in recent years and I feel such a connection to him, I guess because he has touched my heart for so many years.

  • @523richardallen Just to clarify: I didn't realize I was in my husbands account so in order to keep my husband from sounding like a sissy: this is Mrs. Richard Allen.

  • Back in the 1950's three angels came down from heaven to bring beautiful musical harmony to earth. Masquerading as "The Browns" this trio sang around the country and at Grand Ole Opry. (We know that no mere mortals could sing so beautifully with such perfect blending), Then in 1967 the devil made them split up. I hate that ole devil.

  • How can seven people vote against this wonderful song? There are always a few ole soreheads. Great Tune!

  • @jimidee33 seven people pressed the wrong button surely

  • My family married into the Brown family. My uncle by marriage was a first cousin. I have always loved this song. Reminds me of my uncle, Loyal Brown,

  • This is a family favorite. They just don't make music like this any more.

  • HEY this ia my uncle grandmother and aunt i love country music

  • I've heard this song hundreds of times, but I didn't really get it's meaning until I watched this. Such a beautiful performance.

  • Norma, I remember well my friend, the hair style the girls were wearing back in the 60's, these times will never be again, how sad, for these time we live in now need the simple times sadly only lie in our memories and in videos like this one on You Tube...............what sweet memories they bring our way...............puddles.....

  • I also grew up with this song in Saddleworth England. We played it so often on our gramophone, but i don't recall ever seeing the faces of the singers, as we see here. Thanks so much!

  • @normalil Thanks mia sorella for posting this it brought back moments of our childhood, but it reminds me most of when our Charles was born . . .dont know why . . .and it made me cry too.

  • Maxine Brown has a great website and loves to have fans visit her on Facebook. I've never seen an artist respond so consistently to fans' comments as she does. She's a delightful lady.

  • thank you for sharing this, it was a huge favourite of mine when first released, how great to see they are still singing it and looking just as good,x

  • For some strange reason, Jim Brown's eye movements in this video are interesting.

  • @Labaron26 Yes, it looks like one of those cardboard cut-outs with someone sliding the eyes back and forth.

  • Whenever I hear this song,I think of my Uncle,Liles Emmett Watters,1947-1970.RIP.

  • Music like this bring comfort to those in the present...Luv the browns ...if you need someone to take to...then I am here...jerryk@cox.net.

  • They were so wonderful! Their harmony was sweet and tight, they were smooth and together, no sloppy pickups or carryovers. The Browns actually put in the effort to make their live performances as good as their recordings, without a stage full of special equipment, unlike so many of today's "stars."

Plus, I love this song; it always brings a tear to my eye. Thanks for posting it!

  • The Dj on the radio asked to guess what year the song was released , and i guessed 1959 and i was right . I really had to think on this one and i was right.

  • I like this song, has a great storyline. Sad, but good.

  • This was good country music. Not like todays.

  • hey my name is Ken Barrington from Australia --- i am 60 years old now i love the the Browns --- Three Bells has always being a favourite of mine and my wife for many years --when we die heavens bells will be ringing for me and and love---

  • I think of them so muh as R&R artists but more folkrock and as much as their easy to listen too I prefer to listen to the Shirelles, Frankie Avalon, the Crests anybody but the Browns. What a tragic ending and that's why I don't care to play, that goes for Margo & Scarlett Ribbons. I don't like songs where the lyrics are negative as in tragedy. Losing your girlfriend is one thing but this song goes beyond that, reminds me of the Three Bells, so I dislike it.! Why not a happy ending?.

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ It is a happy ending Jimmy Brown lived a wonderful full loving life and then died an old man. It's called life.

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ hey Man I agree about the Shirelles, Crests etc but manufactured Frrankie, Avalon Fabian

Johnny Restivo , for fucks sake!,

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ What's unhappy about living a fulfilled life with a loving partner and then going to heaven when your time is up?

  • Coincidence that the hero was named Jimmy Brown, and the lead singer was Jim Ed Brown. Billboard's 57th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless!

  • hey i love my uncles aunts music Jimmy brown is my uncle

  • 7 people are Justin Bieber fans.

  • I used to listen to this while falling asleep as a young child. Hearing it takes me back to those relaxing, sleepy moments when life was so simple.

  • Their songs and oh those memories from back then...

    wjmiller

  • Their songs and oh those memories from back then...

  • My husband was Jimmy Brown. He passed away almost 4 years ago. I used this song at his memorial. Hearing it is bittersweet. Thanks, John for sharing it.

  • @sbrown8758 You"re wonderful.

  • @sbrown8758 ......I saw your note here on YouTube about Jimmy, your losing him 5 years ago. I am sure you miss him and think about him every day. Some things in life must be shouldered alone; with only the person directly involved knowing the emotional burden that has to be carried. But I wanted you to know that there are many very serious fans here on YouTube. And I know I speak for all of them when I say how much we appreciate your coming on and sharing your feelings about Jimmy with us.

  • @sbrown8758 god bless u both,im 27 & this is one i grew up on.btw,ur hubby was hot in his day;)

  • They were all very attractive people,Jim's eyes are great! They sound very good in the more recent version as well. Great talent!

  • Jim Ed & the girls made this the best of all the renditions, beautifully sung, thank you,Murray in Scotland

  • my mother use to play this all the time growing up, sadly she passed away 5 days ago. I miss you mommy and love you

  • @kplay88 So sorry for your loss...

  • @starkid712 thank you.

  • @kplay88 So sorry for your loss. I came looking for this song because it reminded me of being a child, and how the song used to upset me. I have grandchildren now, and often wonder whether they get upset by things an adult would probably think silly. I'm sure your mother is looking after you now.

  • I remember being at our club house and listening to this before we left for church. It seemed like it was played at the same time EVERY sunday. It sounds as great as it did in the 50s.

  • @kplay88 I AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.

  • He used to be really really good lookin! ha

  • Great song I enjoyed it very much, thanks for posting the video.

  • "you too" this go s for ur last sentece.

  • You are lucky to be related to them...The first LP I purchasd when I started my collectijng (about 200) was "The Best of the Browns"..bought it in Pampa Texas on a vacation in1966..about wore it out. my favorite has always been "The Old Lamplighter" and "Shenandoah".. Prettiest harmony to come down the pike...Have a great TG, my friend.

  • I don't have the foggiest notion of what you are talking about, fool. The term mugger means that he would grin and make faces..hard not to do with a camera in your face. I suggest you learn something about the English language, and maybe deal with some anger issues. I loved the Browns, and i bet they were a tad nicer folks than you seem to be.

  • @sagehopper2006 well i thougt u ment mugger like a stealer im sorry that i sayed that sorry again and i dont have anger issues but i thought u were makeing fun of them sorry sorry sorry sorry

  • @sagehopper2006 well i thougt u ment mugger like a stealer im sorry that i sayed that sorry again and i dont have anger issues but i thought u were makeing fun of them sorry sorry sorry sorry also i didnt mean to use caps lock sorry again

  • JIMMY BROWN DID NOT PASS HE IS ALIVE IT WAS JUST A SONG OK Y WAS HE SINGING THE SONG

  • Now we know where Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles got that coy sidelong glance thing she does: from Jim Ed Brown!

  • This was the number 1 song when I was born.... too funny.

  • @nikkiepping i know it is such good harmony

  • the song is sweet and tells a story so great songs nwo forget it not even worth getting into it haha

  • Mum used to play this song when I was a kid.

  • Love this song....very moving

  • Wish I knew who was playing piano on this.

  • Recently Rick Bass released a really lovely novel, Nashville Chrome, in which he retraces in fictionalized poetic realism (my words) the amazing story of these three singers. A book not to be missed. Thanks for this posting.

  • @TheFolksinger And Maxine Brown wrote a book, "Looking Back To See," that tells the story of the Browns...she includes not only the amazing successes but the heartbreaks most of us didn't know about until we read the book. Easily the best music autobiography I've ever read.
