He is my favourite villain. He is an arch criminal yes, but he also sticks with his own way and his own principles. And he will not hesitate to face his enemies himself if necessary. And he never pretends. He is a perfect example of the expression ''just be yourself''. He is a true villain. I don't know who made The Shredder character for the firt movie but they did a perfect job. Without The Shredder, this first movie couldn't have been fulfilled.
His appearance, voice, his statements and the style of his entrace all shout that he is serious and he means business, and he means it with a sense and atmosphere of fear and respect combined.
@TheJamesmario really?? The orig v. sounds sooo epic esp the last 2 min. I prefer the official soundtrack version but to each their own. Its weird that the track on the soundtrack doesnt actually exist in the movie!
The shredder was first seen in 1984 in mirage comic Teenage Mutant Ninjia Turtles 1.
Empire strikes back came out in 1980.
This film came out in 1990. So Vader would be the reference source on both occasions. However you can also argue Fagin from Oliver Twist is a inspiration for this Shredder incarnation.
This Shredder scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Best character in the entire movie. I was pretty upset that they made him die like a punk (that was my reaction before he was brought back for the sequel).
@ZAPPSOFT I agree. I think Nolan and Burton should make a new TMNT movie with a dark and mysterious story. All the money nonsense and extreme technology nonsense in movie making spoiled everything up. The new producers must put aside all that craziness about extreme technology stuff and silly stories and ideas for a while at least, to come up with such a great old style beyond-classic masterpiece like this today.
Not only do we get "I am your father", but in that same speech we get "there is a new enemy", which pretty much matches Emperor Palpatine's "we have a new enemy" also in The Empire Strikes Back.
this song should be used on NFL films.....it makes me think of a highlight real of a bad ass defense like the 02 Ravens or Raiders ........................I love this movie man....damn
6 people are just some of many bitchy parents who complained about how violent this movie was way back in the day.
These 6 people (as well as others) are the reasons as to why Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III were a lot less darker, violent & more kid friendly.
@MrShadeviperx it is the meaning, the principles that is symbolized and lays behind a mere ''red headband'' and those are not socks, those are ninja suits/outfits. Cheers
@wondermega4ever yeah you probably shouldn't do that if there's a test, you'll be a big distraction and you'll more than likely run out of time yourself.
i think his helmet was a little too bulky, but it does appear to be functional in the final fight scene... if only quentin tarantino would've directed it back in the day, or oliver stone, would've done the franchise some entertainment justice!
@IBroLLyISePhIrOtH Nope, he knows ninjutsu. Take a better and closer look at his outfit, especially his mask and helmet. And all the knives on his hand, forearms, shoulders and forelegs. What does it all look like? Do you think that he could beat four very well trained NINJA Turtles with Karate or Aikido?
my favorite movie when i was a kid back in the early 90's, used to watch it constantly. Was curious to see this entrance again since i haven't watched the movie in about 15 years or so and saw a few mins on tv a couple weeks ago.
What an epic entrance, didn't realize back then how good the actual filmmaking itself was in this movie. Well made for the type of film it is. Great lighting and angles. Also captures the early 90's perfectly, really makes me nostalgic.
@MammaleousMaximus Also, this is an example to not raise your hand and volunteer information to a guy wearing sharp metal and a garbage bag for a cape.
Cinematic lighting. Great score. Dramatic angles. His movements in something as simple as walking in and looking at his subjects, are smooth and ominous. His first in command bows to him and pulls his cape back to reveal the blades on his shoulders. He is a king, He doesn't need to throw a single punch or kick to show that he is to be feared. Within 1 minute and 1 long camera shot, you see his full character summarized perfectly.
I was like 8 and my mom was driving me to school and still have this tape. But heard it then. How old are you people now that remember it really? I'm 29 now. Most of you weren't even born yet. Give it up TMNT forever !!!!!
@king0785 Well, thats true but we have to remember that George Lucas based Darth Vader´s aspect on a Samurai armor, which is japanese, so Shredder (being japanese) is more "rightful" to look that way, is just that Star Wars came first. Have a great time buddy.
This is the best of the 3 tmnt movies that came out in the early nineties. I remember seeing this when it came out. 20 years ago. This one is the darkest and had the best fight scenes
I love this part of the movie. They should have ended the TMNT movies to this one. This was good, dark, gritty & humorous at parts at the same time. Rest of the movies = shit.
