The RCMP (royal canadian mounted police) are the national police they have stations everywhere, then there is the local police which are under the budget and control of the city. They work together but it's all a matter of jurisdiction. Oh and the RCMP take care of the PrimeMinister.

Not all Canadian police are part of the RCMP. They're the national police force for the country. We have both provincial and municipal police forces. Furthermore, the RCMP no longer have an active mounted squad. The horses are used primarily for ceremonial events.
