Irishman? I know it was an old post, but have to respond. Steve Earle is as American as they come! You may not know who he is, but I would guess a lot more than 10% of the crowd did. He's from Texas (though born in Virginia while his dad was in army), lived in Nashville for many years, with time in LA and Mexico. Now lives in NYC. One of the innovators of alt-country, but formed by the red dirt country scene with Townes van Zandt and Guy Clark. Vacationed in Galway though.
