Once young,this voice was golden,Michael McDonald & Daryl Hall,they had the best Blued Eyed soul music out there. Most people that were doing Blue Eyed Soul were Poco & Eagles,they leaned SouthernRock.Everyone tried to do that husky soul sound like Michael McDonald or the silky crispness of soul perfection sound that Daryl Hall made,or way back when Todd Rundgren came out with "Hello It's Me".Or Paul Carrack.Michael is excellent! Johnston has influenced rock for 40 years including writing and singing *number one* Doobie Bro hits like Listen To The Music and Long Train Running and lead guitar. He overcame illness that actually took him out of music, to be replaced as Doobie's lead singer by Michael McDonald, then Johnston had the personal strength to come back as strong as before, and remains friends with McDonald to this day.

3Rubee you have your opinion but you are a distinct minority dude...The original Doobie Brothers were a great Rock and Roll Band and Tom Johnston was the undisputed force behind them but Michael McDonald, in my opinion transformed them into a far more sophisticated and soulful band. I think his is the most unique voice ever in the rock and r&b genres. Just read the comments under any video with him singing. Virtually everyone is mesmerized by his voice and soul...truly a blue eyed soul brother!
