  • no wonder they say ignorance is bliss...

  • Big congratulations to the shirt! Great job, shirt! You lifted a lot of weight!

  • cheating

  • Im new too lifting. So what do you guys mean by shirts?

  • @LAXbeast702 thats the elastic bench press shirt, when you have the wieght all the way to your chest the straps are crossed on the shirts so they are fighting to back up and helping the person bench... its like cheating

  • 12 people bench 25lbs

  • Fucking shirts have ruined Bench Pressing...

  • Most of the people posting comments have no knowledge of powerlifting. This guy also has the all time record (in recorded history) of "raw" (no shirt) bench pressing...487 lbs. at 165. The shirted stuff also "looks" silly to me, but you can't knock a guy who also has the all time raw record.

  • another bench vid and another benchvest.....powerlifting is a joke...true unequiped clean powerlifitng is nonexistant and thats a big shame...id be more impressed if he benched 500lbs unequiped and clean ....damn shame i hav to compete with dicks like this...i dont like being asociated with theese type of lifters, stop disgrcing the sport i love

  • Retarded. What honourable bench press looks like this?! He basically pulls the bar down to his chest. These shirts have such tremendous stopping power that it makes the bench press not even a true bench press.

This little goof likely doesn't have a 350 in him without the shirt.

Also, can he squat anything ... at least without a load of gear on and a stance 10 miles wide?

This clown isn't a champion and isn't much of an athlete. He's embarrassing.

  • @TheTrueFortress

If you think he could shirt 655lbs and not raw 350lbs you're either naive or just stupid. You probably vouch for Rugby over American Football too.

  • @Dirtylickins2

    You miss my point. Congratulations.

  • Joe Clown looks like a clown wearing this clownsuit. How much can he bench without a shirt? At least 250 lbs less. This guy is a disgrace. If anybody out there tries to tell me this guy is a champion and "what have you done...etc..etc." Save your comments and blow them out of your ass.

Joe Pizza is a pizzahead cranked and shirted for his own glory.

  • the song in the backround gets me psyched up like a mofo

  • i saw guy that have never trained before benching 130 kg WITH A SHIRT....i hate that shit only raw is real

  • @13andincradiblycutt

    not this stupid cunt again.

  • @matklstrength hahah he has commented on every single youtube video that has anything to do with weights

  • @shaneshaneist

i know what a fucking retard, its just some pathetic moron who cant lift, like the steroidsr4losers dick.

  • that small guy can lift 655 pounds? bet he can't lift 300 lbs without the thing he's wearing

  • @drexzzz Actually he holds the raw bench record for the 165 class as well. Something to the tune of 485. Shirt gives a ton indeed but to say he is "small" or weak is just not reasonable. If you see him in person you notice his legs are skinny but upper body is pretty darn big. He's pretty short too.

  • @drexzzz Open mouth....insert foot; Joe Mazza has the world record bench press in the 165 weight class, at 487 pounds.

  • That's a great bench but I'm of the mind that only the super belt should be used in competition. No knee wraps, elbow wraps, super suits , bench shirts or any other aid that adds to the lift. Just doesn't make sense and takes away respectability from powerlifting. For real athleticism, strength, power, flexibility and speed Olympic style weight lifting is a much better option.

  • @ejy2 I personally don't get much out of knee wraps, and knee wraps are more for protection then anything else. My point is I don't think they belong on that list.

  • @Fir3fly798 how many days have you been lifting man? That's some bald head statement you've just made. Altec knee wraps add 20 pounds to my 405 squat and I'm talking full olympic squat not that sumo half ass shit barerly parallel good mornings. Inzer or Titan knee wraps got me close to 40 pounds. Get real man. Even Inzer wrist wraps increased my 1 rep max on the bench at least for 10 pounds.

  • @m5p944 I use basic APT 2.5 m wraps and the first time I ever used them I was able to do a couple more reps with my max weight. So yes they help me, but barely. The primary reason I use them is because I have small joints and squatting over the years has killed my knees. I do squat ATG though and I recently switched to an extremely narrow stance to try to bring out my vastus lateralis more. When I squat with knee wraps I have zero to no pain at all. Maybe if I had better wraps I'd get moreweight

  • so in a bench press contest, you are allowed to place your feet flat on the ground or go on your tippie toes? I've seen guys use both techniques but which is best? I used to bench on my tippie toes but have switched to feet flat cus I thought it was a rule. I don't compete but I want to perform my lifts properly so that no one will ever accuse me of being a bullshiter.

  • What a freak! Im so sick of these people bitching about the shirts. Either you guys have never put on or you have but were to much of a puss to keep training in one because it wasnt what you thought. And how is it cheating haha? People who lift in the equipped divisions lift against other people who are equipped lol, people who lift Raw lift against other lifters who are raw lol. I do both and I can tell you that lifting Raw is so mush more easier! Respect both!

  • guy is so big he can't fit in his shirt damn thats power

  • Wow, that was a really good bench press that the shirt did. I didn't know they where naming bench shirts now, though. I wonder who the dude wearing the shirt is? Oh well.

  • What retard? Lol you dont have a clue and either does any poser that is in an ad saying they have a bench press record when in fact their shirt is lifting 300lbs of the weight, now lets put this 5'6 165lb person in a drug tested USAPL raw bench lift and see if he can even get 395. This is nothing more than a carnival lift.

  • but you see fairness in competition isn't the issue. its your holier than thou attitude and need to be tough behind a keyboard that drives you to criticize geared lifters. you'll never be as strong as this man, get over it and stop posting idiotic comments.

  • Assisted lifting, Deceit at best of PL records, I guess ppl have somehow convinced themselfs these are real lifts.. I just read his article and he says hes getting sronger, WOW talk about being lost in your own lie, its your getting the technique down with your latest shirt or your latest shirt lifts more than your last shirt. Sorry to break it to you but your not getting stronger, your delusion is though..

  • the shirts are bullshit, they can add literally HUNDREDS of pounds to your bench. in my opinion all lifts recognized as records should be raw.

  • Here’s the thing the Heaviest (shirted) Heaviest bench press at 1008 pounds Heaviest RAW bench press at 715 pounds that is a 293 pound difference made by the same guy Scott Mendelson. The shirts are not for safety or support, it 100% ego. And yes I do bench heavy, no world records. I used to compete locally in the sport and shirts have made it a joke and we wont see them (shirts) in any Olympic competition. For a reason.

  • nice shirt comments, what a joke. Bench shirt's,squat suits, and other equipment is used for SAFETY. These people should pull 600 plus from the bench w/a shirt and see what happens. The body needs protection and stability from that kind of weight. Please try and compete and then tell me what you think. Saying raw lifts are the only legit lifts is a very stupid thing to say, and I lift raw. There is also much technique required to utilize the shirt correctly. Call joe mazza a pussy, bad idea.

  • wtf is he wearing...he looks like a fuckin ninja turtle

  • nice shirt faggot

  • The only lifts that matter are 100% raw.

    Bench shirts are retarded.

  • Suit sux =P jk but i dont like 'em.... whats his raw bench is it above 420?

  • i hate benching with shirts and all that crap do it raw i coulnt even tell wen he locked out

  • look there are records with different gear and records without....to each his own. i train without but this guy used a shirt but still did 655. Too much complaining,

  • Okay just to clear it up. People who are against gear, cant lift. Look at the world records now, compared to 7 yrs ago. About 5 yrs ago dumbass raw lifters were bashing the geared lifters because 'They dont show true feats of human strength'. Well, The gearwhores went RAW, and broke almost all of the world records, and dominated all competitions, RAW. If you arnt skilled enough to use gear, then screw off. Have you ever tried it? If oyu can lift in gear, you deserve to use it,its difficult

  • @XMrLawlX Let the flaming begin :)

  • @XMrLawlX

What are you talking about? Jim Rouse benched 479 raw THIRTY YEARS AGO IN IPF Competition. Rick Weil benched 485 raw OVER TWENTY YEARS AGO.

  • @BigDealinFargo congrats, It's not like that is an excessive amount.

  • Comment removed

  • sadly guys this is for real, in fact joe mazza has just been featured on men's health magazine as well. basically this has been tested to be true

  • whats so special about that suit?

  • @ShipsAreBurned yeah im wondering the same thing

  • Take off the shirt and I guarantee the lift aint happening

  • if he took off the shirt he would still bench 465 and has, he is a beast in a shirt and without one, and he will soon own two world records, he has the geared record and will probably hold the raw record too. Even without a shirt he can still bench a ton for his size.

  • Gay shirt.

  • That dood is nuts... His strength to relative body weight is amazing.

  • wow i must say thats an impressive lift for a little guy, even with the shirts (looks like you're wearing 2) and the range of motion was like twice the normal range so props to u dude

  • Wow... suck his dick why don't you. I can obviously tell you you have a boner for this guy.

  • thats fuckin ridiculous almost 4x his bodyweight those shirts are amazing what they can do

  • How tall is he?

  • legs

  • he looks short

  • the real world record is 1010 lbs

  • but the 1010 guy isnt 165 pounds..

  • @almightykod Pound for pound strength is NOT the same as total/absolute strength. Sure, the guy who lifts 1010#s may be heavier, but that does NOT mean the 165# guy could lift 1010# even if he was equally heavy.

  • @almightykod weight catagories..

  • the real world record your refering to is held by a super heavy weight not a 165 pounder

  • how much is that in kilograms?

  • no lift stupid....piede sinistro

  • Just to make myself clear, I don't think using a shirt is cheating. That's why they have raw divisions and assisted divisions. Either way, joe mazza has an amazing bench. That's some heavy weight.

  • yudda= another person that thinks they're a lot smarter than they really are. Bench press jackets make you do correct form holding your arms and back in a position that is the correct form for bench press.. making it harder..

  • Have you ever used a bench shirt? It doesn't make it harder, it helps you. Mendelson for example, 715 raw and 1015 with a shirt.

  • why do they have to wear bench shirts thats cheating worse than roids.

  • Why? It's just a sport, and it has it's rules like anything else. Cleats in football? Etc, etc. If you prefer a raw press (or whatever) that's cool, but don't detract from the guy's achievement - he's still probably many times stronger than you or me, and he's all of 75kg.

  • Not if everybody else is wearing a shirt as well and is absolutely welcome to use the same kind of shirt you are. How is it cheating then? By the way, roids shouldn't be classified as cheating.

  • So what would you say if I told you that a NFL Player is cheating by wearing there pads and a helmet?

  • @yuddda This... makes no sense. They're benching against other lifters who will be wearing shirts. And if they're on steroids then they will be lifting in a federation that is untested in which every lifter who goes in either is on, has been, or is expected to understand and accept that they might, and probably will, be lifting against other lifters who have/do. I fail to see how this is cheating.

  • @omfgapolarbear Shirts turn a competition which could of been great into a joke and turns away alot of ppl who would otherwise liked to give it a shot. Im thinking of entering a shotput competition with a spring loaded arm so i can throw 30metres but dont worry everyone else is using spring loaded arms too. GIVE ME A FKEN BREAK SHIRTS HAVE DESTROYED BENCH PRESS COMPETITION.

  • @yuddda How? People always talk about how gear has "ruined powerlifting" but can never quite justify the feeling. How does it turn people away? If they wanna bench raw, well fuck, they can bench raw and STILL set a record. It still requires an incredibly amount of strength to move 700#s in a shirt. Squatting 1000 in a suit? Insane strength. Raw powerlifting is strength and technique. Geared powerlifting is strength, technique, and how well they can use their gear. Its not just a "put this on..."

  • @omfgapolarbear being one of the young aspiring lifters that would be turned away from geared lifting (and actually have been) is i dont want to see what a guy can lift in a shirt that helps him get an extra 300lbs. that is fucking retarded. why do they need shirts to add on hundreds of extra pounds? why cant they show what their real natural strength is? makes no sense to me at all. i cant get into watching geared lifting at all. go read fred hatfields interview in PL USA recently

  • @yuddda Well, then lift RAW.

  • @yuddda

You sir, are fucking stupid. Not only does shirts and suits add more fun and entertainment into powerlifting, but they also help keep the lifters safe and injury free as they get older.

And if you could, please share your raw numbers... you have to be doing somthing pretty damn impressive to talk smack about these guys.

  • @yuddda

You do realize Joe also can throw up a ton of weight raw right? I know the 295lbs bench at 255lb body weight makes you king of the Anytime Fitness but it still ain't anything.

  • @yuddda Plus they do belly lifts. How many people consider it to be a bench press if you take the bar down to your belly, and not your chest, just to make it easier? That's weak.

  • @yuddda right on lol

  • @yuddda Then join a raw competition... Shirts are meant for advanced lifters who are ready to add another variable to their game.

  • @yuddda Stupidest thing I have ever read. You and every single person who 'thumbed up' what you wrote are all ignorant dumbasses

  • how can it be that he only weight 165 pound and can bench that much?

  • lol thats the most boring bench press record ever

  • lol weird but true... it was very boring z z Z

  • I just dont understand where rules have gone. Nontheless, that was alot of weight to bring down and lift even though it was for a few inches. I just dont see a fair legal lift to this guy's style. Sorry, but he is one strong dude.

  • I don't care what the announcer said, that's not 600 anything.

He has three 45s on each side. So, those plus the bar would be 315. Whatever else he has on there would add up to maybe 355.

  • yes hes benching 655 pounds the plates are 45kg which is like 100lbs a plate i can see where you got confused though

  • actually, nevermind. he's got on one of those braces or whatever. i don't know why i always assume that someone is benching "raw".

  • id like to see you do even 315

  • Me, personally? I can do 315 raw. But, that's not the issue. The issue is that I just don't like braces and such regardless. It just seems to take away from the accomplishment for me. Hence, I don't use belts when I squat.

It's not really that important. It's just my preference.

  • uhhh belts dont really help you squat, they are mainly there to keep your lower back straight, because when your using heavier weights you can fuck up your back like i did when i tried to do 315 for the first time and i never used a belt, but i guess that is just too much for my lower back and i hurt it, but now i just wear a belt and i can max out at 440 or so without hurting myself

  • So, they don't help you squat, they just help keep you from getting injured while stabilizing your core?

Okay, yeah... I can see now how they don't help with your squat.

  • ... what im saying is having a belt isnt gonna help you lift any more weight, unlike the suit this guy is wearing

they are just there for security

  • but what you just said, thaustin, is that the belt DID help you lift more weight.

  • well not exactly

i could squat 440 without a belt, but i would most likely hurt my back in the process...

  • belt is to hold the abs tight not the back you cant squat that much....

  • It's to increase intra-abdominal pressue. Anyway, in benching it's to hold the shirt down in place so it doesn't move about.

  • for how many reps are you benching 200lbs

  • One of the worst bench presses i have even seen.theres a few things wrong with that, for example look at his feet ! you feet are ment to be dug into the ground when bench pressing, hes up on his toes...

  • actually bro you can have different feet positions look at half the west side lifters they have their feet back to get a bigger arch. its not wrong to bench like that its just different

  • What is wrong with you guys? RAW powerlifting and Geared powerlifting are two different sports, quit bitching.

  • can u please tell me the difference between raw and geared? cause theres a big weight difference and what can help that much

  • yeah raw squat your only allowed a belt and singlet. for equipped squat your allowed knee wraps, briefs, and a squat suit. all those factors put together can easily throw on a couple hundred lb.benching raw is just wraps and a singlet. and equipped benching is with a bench shirt usually polyester or denim. my shirt puts on 75lb extra :) hope that helps

  • thank you so much ye it helps lots i get it k well keep up the training :)

  • They should have more rules for these world records..the way they are benching is clearly not the usual bench press..they bend their back or something..they should make them conform to regular non back bending bench presses

  • At 0:09 he says 355 not 655. I think you made a huge mistake.

  • haha sure does

  • Amazing lift man. what is the name of the song played?

  • Song is Not falling by mudvayne

  • your fffenn idiot its the world record for a 165 lbs person

  • well its not the world record maby for his wieght class. o and im 15 and i bench 200lbs. but im not at all dissing his bench great job but not world record i think the record is 1052 lbs

  • how much lbs is 1 kilo?

  • 2.2 lbs

  • Thanks lad, then i bench 187lbs^^

  • im not saying this isnt extreamly impressive but he has so many advantages that tall guys dont. a guy with long arms benching 250 is like a guy with short arms benching 500. plus look at how long that bar is!! the bar i use i catch my elbows on the plates when i bring them down.

  • rolex your a dumb fuck who noes nothing about lifting..he has the raw record to you dick sucker...and supernova your a little pussy who wishes he could lift that much you little prick

  • nice fucking bench shirt. and thats 355. not 655 dumb fuck

  • world record to mudvayne... hells yeah, mazza is the shit

  • unbelivable! anyone who says negative things about him because of the bench shirts should be ashamed. he maxes out probally in the high 500s and only weighs 165 lbs! by comparisin im about 240 and the most i ever put up was 305.

  • me in 10 years

  • even with a bench shirt, at 165.. im still impressed... without a bench shirt.. his max is in the 5's?

  • no shit hes 165lbs? wow thats super strong!!!!!

  • suits & bench shirts are a joke imo. i mean think about it for a second, extrapolate out some years where the shirts/suits will eventually evolve to, an 80 y/o gradpa will be able to squat and bench for world records. they make no sense to me whatsoever. powerlifting with shirts/suits and roids on top of it, is an absolute joke imo. and I AM entitled to my opinion for all you haters and liars out there.

  • I agree that RAW is the only way to compete but shirts can be ised as a tool to help increase steagth. The shirts purpose is top prevent injury and provide support and to allow you to press more weight far beyond what you can handle this will trigger a fight or flight response and stimulate your nervous system so when you go back to benching raw, your body will think "hey this is going to be real heavy" and tricks a involuntary nervous response

  • YUP!!!

it should be a NATURAL MAN VS. WEIGHT, plain and simple, no straps, wraps, belts, shirts, suits....i don't even like gloves

  • He competes against other shirted benchers, for those that lift raw they compete with each other - end of story. The guy is actually very strong shirtless as well and can bench well over 400, which is more than double bodyweight - he is a strong mofo.

  • i dont care what he can bench raw

he is a disgrace to weightlifting because he wears a bench shirt

any one who wears bench shirts-You are a disgrace

  • Negitive!

  • Everyone wears a bench shirt in a powerlifting meet, you ignorant fuck. Same as wrapping your knees for squat, and wearing a squat suit.

  • Shirt or no shirt, please, let's have some respect for these athletes, these powerlifters and their incredible strength!

  • hey beyondethousand, mazza holds raw and equipped records at 165...who are you! he has benched more than anyone at his weight for the last six years. you idiot! are you a lifter? or just a hater. get your facts right jackass.

  • Im so so sorry, but the more i watch this vid the more it makes me laugh :-D Joe, you are super strong, ive heard of your 450 raw and thats amazing, out of this world benching, jokes aside you are a world class bencher, its just the shirt, its adding 200lbs to your lift and the whole exercise looks ridiculous, i dread to think the tension build up. 450 raw and 655 with a shirt? 205lb increase with an item of clothing? Shirts and suits have ruined powerlifting

  • i hate bench shirts and sport suits; they compromise the true powerlifting records

  • he's my neighbor. close friend's father. he's been lifting for 35 years, he knows his stuff. helped my friend get to a 280 @ 140. knows his stuff ^

  • Cool, was that with or without a shirt.

  • with shirt, but still, impressive

  • I've been lifting weights for almost 30 years and this is nothing but fraud from the getgo. These new open back shirts just let you slowly lower a weight heavy enought to let the bar just touch the chest and then the recoil is out of the planet. The lifter then just has to lock it out. A raw 315 is has more credibility than this circus sideshow stupidity. What a collapse of what was made great by the lifters of the 60s,70s,and 80s.

  • have some respect

  • For what? For the non 665 that he thinks he benched? He handled that weight but did NOT actually bench it. That is a fact. You're probably not a lifter. Just one of his dumbass groupies.

  • I'm a powerlifter, I have competed, he knows he can't do that much without the bench shirt, but, still, it's a beautiful thing to compete and lift more more and more! It's magical! I'm ok with it(bench shirts, squat suits and deadlift suits)

  • I disagree. Anyone that thinks the shirt does all the work should be the guy on the bench.

It takes courage to take on that kind of weight. If you have a great raw lift post it. otherwise shut the fuck up!

  • i think the bar moved a total of 3 inches

  • fakeeeeeee FAKE FAKE FAKE NOT NATURAL , NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO LIFT AND NOT REAL AT WHAT HE WAS DOING U SEE HOW A LOT OF GUYS TAKE OFF INCHES WHEN THE SLIDE THEY BODY DOWN THE BENCH THEN LIFT THERE BACKS OR ARCH THERE BACKS TO GET READY THEN THEY DO NOT BRING THE WEIGHT STRAIGHT DOWN BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHY IT WILL CRUSH THERE NECKS BECAUSE THEY ALREADY LIFTING WRONG INT THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU ARE A TRUE LIFTER U WILL NOT NEED 3 SPOTS NOT NATURAL AND NOT DEICATED TO BEING LOYAL TO THERE SELF FAKE

  • wow, I dont think Ive ever seen someone less knowlegeble about shirted bench presses comment on youtube.

  • you dont know shit about powerlifting.

  • menofmaturity...SHUT UP!

  • haaaaaaaa

  • the fuck this asshole got on... loks like he stole his 3 yr old daughters swimmin suit & said FUCK IT.. thats is jus a bout what i need to lift this fuckin weight. lol

  • bravo forte dopato

  • In what Federation do you not have to finish your lift? No lock out. The shirt did its job. The lifter did not. In my eyes. No lift. Nice Super suit though!

  • what are you talkin about turd it was locked out. Look at his elbow when they pull the weight up its totally extended still.

  • Yep he locked it out but that's all HE did. The stupid ass shirt did most of the bottom end. Nice observation.

  • his ass was hight in the air that shouldnt have counted

  • How much do you think he can do without the suit?

  • 400

  • he has done 420 raw in competition several times, and recently got 450 in competition.

  • he is all happy with that spotters help/lightly...bench shirt, arched back, no-drug test, & with all that did he real ligitamatly do 600+? I THINK NOT, but he I know cheatting is legit, in amature semi & pro events, but real men dont have to cheat" as MOST DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

  • HOLY SHIT you sound stupid. I couldn't understand half of what you said. And you misspelled like half of the words in there. lol. From your pic on your profile you fit the part. You look like some guy on the FBI's Most Wanted list for sexual predators.

  • holy crap! i read on mens health that hes 165lbs too. goooo!

  • Wow! That's amazing!..Joe Mazza is the best!

  • wow thats a lot of weight for that weight class and size.

  • Atta Way!

  • Cmon man whats happened to benchin??!Arched backs, super wide grip, bench shirts? From start 2 finish that bar moved about 10-11 inches, i dont like to see and and i powerlift!! Not baggin the lifter, he shud be proud, he doesnt make the rules and he set a world record playing by em, nice job! But seriously, benchin is a fuckin joke!

  • no you don't powerlift and YOU are the joke

  • loser
