@FoxeoGames I've done studies on case law and supreme court verdicts. I've seen "justice" in action and I know it is slanted towards the officers involved. I know police have immunity against perjury in some cases and I know judges don't want to unduly inhibit police in the course of their duties. But most importantly, I know that "some" people never ever get justice while "others" seem to have the courts on their side. I know anyone who defends some of these unjust laws is not who I want.

There's nothing in the Constitution that would make it 100% clear whether a dog sniffing a car for drugs constitutes a violation of one's rights. It must be ruled on by a court, and not everyone will agree. The Supreme Court will rule on that exact issue this year.

There is a HUGE misconception that "most police" violate the law regularly or are corrupt. This is because the media only presents the negative. The vast majority of officers are never involved in any significant corruption or civil rights violations during their career -- the media doesn't talk about them.

Question: Would you say that crime, in general, is something you would be extremely concerned about? You'll probably answer, like most people, yes. But have you ever viewed the National Police Misconduct Statistics and Reporting Project? If so, you would know that police commit crimes, per capita, at the same rate as civilians AND sexual assault and murder is many times higher.
So, it's not about whether one cop is a bad cop or not. It's about the fact that police should not be automatically given the benefit of the doubt -- just as I wouldn't give someone wearing gang clothes and behaving like gang members, the benefit of the doubt. I know police have immunity against perjury in some cases and I know judges don't want to unduly inhibit police in the course of their duties. But most importantly, I know that "some" people never ever get justice while "others" seem to have the courts on their side. I know anyone who defends some of these unjust laws is not who I want.

There's nothing in the Constitution that would make it 100% clear whether a dog sniffing a car for drugs constitutes a violation of one's rights. It must be ruled on by a court, and not everyone will agree. The Supreme Court will rule on that exact issue this year.

Cops are supposed to be professional at all times, but they don't have to be "polite" when they are confronted with a possible hazardous situation. You are saying that all people will just comply with cops if they just use polite words. Most will, but what about the ones that don't? What if they are concealing a weapon and mean the officer or another person harm? Then what say you? Go straight to physical force?

It's important to avoid violence or you lose automatically. Let EVERY cop be photographed (assign people to that specific task) and let the occupy masses weed out infiltrators.
I'd hate to be the cop who happens to be in a circle of Marines when he's outed.
But please try to get the cops on your side- you'll be unstoppable then. They're in the same financial boat- make them realize that.

Yes, the problems are systemic and the people within the system should be doing something about it, but calling people "pigs" is not a solution. I agree with the premise of groups such as the one who made this video, but please explain to me how calling them "pigs" is going to help the problem. At least we know where you stand, I guess.

First of all, I know most of my beat cops and they know me. As an Oakland property owner (who just happens to live in what Mayor Quan call the "100 worst blocks in Oakland") I pay their salaries through taxes. I meet with them frequently. They are human beings, not faceless, nameless badges. So this isn't going to "happen to me". Furthermore, most of them are not white so the "racist" tag is absurd.
Go live in a city without the rule of law (Mogadishu, Grozny, Baghdad) then get back to me.

I disagree with the generalization of "pig" and the "assumption of guilt" suggested by yelling "be careful" at a cop.

But have you ever viewed the National Police Misconduct Statistics and Reporting Project? If so, you would know that police commit crimes, per capita, at the same rate as civilians AND sexual assault and murder is many times higher.
