If u slide the UAC control to the second from the bottom, then type "services" in windows search and make sure the "application identity" and "Application Information" services are both set to automatic start, UAC will almost never bother u. Because i remembers your choice from the first time you open something that requires a UAC prompt. Try it.

I love how misinformed some people are regarding UAC, but given this is YouTube, where the biggest idiots on the internet collectively spew their drivel, I'm not surprised. UAC is more than "cancel or allow", it only appears when something requires administrative rights, and even that has been further refined in 7. Unless you're installing cracks for all your pirated software all the time by trying to write to a protected area like Program Files, you'll hardly ever see UAC with day to day use.

Sorry, it prompts anytime an application attempts to open the registry read/write, program files, etc. even if you are an admin. This means automatic prompts during installations, older applications, in-place COM object installation, many legacy services, device drivers, etc.

Further, it simply won't remember any specific application. Meaning if you have a legacy system (say Outlook Express), you get prompted each time unless you turn it all off.

UAC completely annoying. it asks permission to perform the most basic tasks. It wasn't the easiest thing for a beginner to shut off in Vista either. My preference is to just shut it off now that I have 7.

I tested and compared Kubuntu 9.04 with Windows 7 as they were both not official releases and represent the latest both had to offer. 9.04 is certainly shaping up nicely with Ext4 and KPackageKit replacing the awful Adept. After the disasterous 8.10 it is greatly improved. I thought a distro with the latest KDE 4.2 desktop was a fair comparison.

Linux Mint have just released RC1 of Felicia with KDE 4.2 (which is based on Ubuntu 8.10) and I will certainly test and compare that also.

Mint is nice for users who want everything like codecs and Flash pre-installed, and the selection of apps is very good as well, and I'd recommend it to the average home user but for myself I much prefer the more up to date Kubuntu 9.04.

I tried Ubuntu 8.0 on my PS3, and the experience was frustrating. I never get flash working, I don like typing command just to install anything. I don't want to learn another program language just to change my freaking resolution. Anyway, if you enjoy typing in command line and looking up forum to solve your daily task, Linux is for you! If you are just a casual user like me, stick to windows or OS. At least OS didn't need so much command line knowledge.

1. There is no Ubuntu "8.0".

2. Ubuntu is aimed at desktops rather than the PS3. Use a distro that is made specially for the PS3 like YellowDog.

3. Flash is installed along with codecs, java, and other extras by installing Ubuntu-restricted-extras from the repositories with Synaptic. Its just a few mouse clicks !

4. No command line required, no learning a programming language required.

5. After reading the FUD filled rubbish you've posted here, the last thing any user needs is your "advice".

ok guys for most of you out there, I went to the microsoft website and found that "Windows 7 Beta" can be downloaded for free(To test them, that's the porpuse because it's still buggy) But I also found that it will expire on August 1, 2009. In order to still use it, you have to buy the final copy, which of couse will be like a different OS but called Windows 7 Beta. It means that you have to buy the final product, which sucks, I was about to install it but decided not to.

I have to agree....most of the OS from Windows are unusefull before the Service Pack 1, it happens with Windows 98, Windows XP and now with Vista (I hate Vista but I have to admit they really made a lot good changes after Service Pack 1, now you can use the OS without so many troubles).

Like I always said......dont even think about change from Xp until the release Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.
