  • So let me get this straight.

Gordon Rosewater was told by 'a dream' to take some children and plant memories that will pop up expectantly after the whole city loses their memory. The ones that couldn't successfully get memories are now the UNION and wants revenge by destroying the city.

Now Alex, unlike the union, wants to recreate the city using stolen memories from Dorthy and using Big Fau, but can't because his is 'a bad tomato',another child who claims to have memories but doesn't have any.

  • y'all are talking about brain fucks, here's one. Schwartzwald mentions that it's ABANDONED equipment, implying that the outside world might possibly not exist/ been destroyed. Thus, Paradigm City is running the infinite loop, with the genetic tomatoes becoming more and more refined, but why? Because everyone died and simply left the machine running? Who knows, and that my friends, is very scary indeed.

  • so the truth that Schawrzwald wanted to reveal was that it was stage that the city was in?

  • I think the reason why Big O hasn't been as popular as Gundam isn't the lack of action or character depth but the fact Big O is a serial rapist on the viewer's mind.

  • Oh my! Poor angel 4:03! D:

  • This is probably what's really going on:

The world in the show was a simulation created by Angel. Nothing existed before 40 years ago. The city is exactly what this episode reveals: a stage. Paradigm City is the setting of Angel's book "Metropolis."

The people are all possibly clones to serve as "actors" in this adaptation of her book. So, Angel plays the "man behind the curtain" role; and thus is behind every event in "The Big O."

  • 1:09 creepy floating head.............

  • so it was a gigantic dome over the city...

it was a stage like the movie "Truman show"

    It is very scary...

  • 4:15 somewhere, a psychopath has gotten a boner.

  • You've been a bad little girl! lol she bends over.

  • @frounkman

One of the more memorable scenes of this episode. I was waiting for some chick to run in with a French maid's uniform on. LOL

  • So Schawrzwald and Big Duo, even at their death, finally completed the mission they dedicated theselves to: Revealing the Truth to everyone.

Rest In Peace: Scharwzwald and Big Duo.

  • @StarforceOnAir to expand on that. Big Duo's faceplate is a merger of Big O and Big Fau. Two polar opposites. Big Duo is the combination of them who seeks to arrive at one truth. and in life, you cannot arrive at one truth without taking two paths. Really cool duality symbolism with that Big

  • I remember watching this on Toonami...and I still don't know WTF.

  • Okay now, why is it Angel acts like she knows nothing about the "RD" murders? It seemed obvious she knew all about them back in episode 13.

  • Maybe it's not so much that she doesn't know but rather she just doesn't care...

  • gordon rosewater looks like hes bleeding at 3:10

  • A stage? Feels like the Matrix, but obviously "real", right?

  • So let me get this straight; No-one had any memories before 40 years ago, the union never existed, the "tomatoes" are genetically created people and Paradigm City was just a super huge stage. Someone please tell me otherwise, cause my brain's just not coping with this many plot twists.

  • i think you just about summed it up and very well, i might add.

  • Seriously! Schwartzwald does indeed speak the truth indeed for it sounds very true which is why I simply love that character! "Paradigm City, a grand ostentatious stage and above it secretly looking down at the folly of Human blunders were not the ever-expecting and comforting presence of gods but our *lateness* abandoned equipment. ha ha ha! This is a comedy! That which I searching for, they were...: -end of speech-

  • The words between the aterisks is a word I didn't hear clearly so sorry if I misspelled it for I fear that is not the correct word Schwatzwald said. At any rate Schwartzwald is truly a very perfect Truth Seeker for he pretty much said the very truth in Big O which is why I truly respect him for that! XD heh heh heh!

  • Shoot... I forgot to add some missing words in the quote. I feel so stupid for forgetting to add that in. :P Oh well... XD lol

  • Skullgrin, that would be a great idea. It'd have an Underworld or The Breed feel to it. Really dark, but not really Black and White, like Sin City. Hopefully the computer generated MegaDeuses will be ALOT better than "Transformers: The Movie"'s robots. Now.. the question is this..

    The Cast?

  • what is the name of the song chorus playing in part 0:49 straight up to 1:06 can anyone tell me what it is.....pls?

  • "Name of God", it can be found on the Big-O soundtrack.

  • Thank you so much!

I'm one of those rare youtubers who actually say thank you!

  • oh wow, at :50 darkdrag187 was right! Big Duo flies all the way to the top and there are stage lights.

  • hmmm those bolts of thunder wouldnt happen to be stage lights would they?

  • That's a good analogy.

  • back then when anime was new to me, it was like brain candy to me

  • I have the DVD set of this show. (Thank God). It's an absolute classic. I'm praying James Cameron sees this and makes this a trilogy.

I don't think we can say for sure Schwarzwald was the real pilot for Big Duo. However, my theory is that R.Dorothy and Angel are the pilots for the other two Bigs. They are the only other people who besides Roger Smith and Schwarzwald who are looking for the truth. My hunch is it's Dorothy who is the real Director...not Angel.

  • James Cameron would be my first choice to make Big O into a live action movie ^_^

  • How could Dorothy be the director of Paradigm city, as it is indicated in the last episode, Angel is real director, as well as the true author of the book: METROPOLIS, and the megadeus: Big Venus.

  • Yep, and she got pissed that Alex was trying to take her job as the director. That's probably why she reset everything again.

  • Big Fau's Dominous was no-one currently in the show. Alex Rosewater was rejected, but he managed to control the Megadeus in the end by using Dorthy's memory core.

  • Big O can be summed up in two quotes:

"All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts"

"Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing"

...and because of that, I love this show with all my being.

  • @Br0nze lol isnt that from macbeth?

  • @luciferxfatality -- one is from As You Like It, the other is from Macbeth, respectively.

  • That is deep stuff.

  • so 40 years ago, Gordon created a perfect race (the population of Paradigm City) and a perfect world. The rest of the world had its memory wiped and were considered the forign people?

  • no the rest of the world kept it's memory, well you posted a month ago so you won't read this anyway

  • If Schwarzwald wasn't Big Duo's dominus, then why, may I ask, did Duo continue to follow Schwarzwald's commands even after Schwarzwald's body had given up. IMO, it wouldn't. Ergo, Schwarzwald was the Dominus of Big Duo.

  • Schwarzwald probably was as close to Big Duo's dominuse as it would get.

  • Thank you, good Invader. :)

  • The TURE memories! They were--

    -Fake.

  • True my friend. Very very true for it certainly has that feeling indeed! ^_^

  • The true memories! They were fake!!

  • Big O jumps the shark.

  • Poor Angel, she just never gets a break.

  • 1.shwarts-whatever his name is was going to say the memories were never there.

2.big duo's domineus was shwartsy but he betrayed what's-his-name

3.big fau's domineus was alex rosewater that's why on the last episode big fau tried to absorb him into it's system.

  • does the union know about the memories

  • hey any oe know what schwarzwald was about to say?

  • I feel so bad for Gordon. He looks so confused..

  • Alex is crazy. He's worse than Schwarzwald and Gabriel combined.

  • Aww, I loved Schwarzwald. He wasn't ALL bad. At least he never tried to completely destroy Paradigm!

  • Well Schwarzwald was still a bit crazy, and he wanted the city to burn. But he was less crazy than Alex and Gabriel.

  • Well, he was crazy, but that's why I loved him. He's my favorite Big O antagonist.

  • Schwarzwald was the best. In order of my favorites:

    1. Schwarzwald

    2. Jason Beck

    3. The Union

    4. Rosewater

  • What about Alan Gabriel?

And do Big Duo and Big Fau count as villains since they're supposedly self-aware? Like there was the one episode where Fau tore up the city with the lasers. That was cool.

  • 1. Gabriel is my least favorite because he's crazy.

    2. Big Duo and Big Fau are technically neutral, since their dominus(es) are the ones that decide if their intentions are good or not. Roger is Big O's dominus, and he makes Big O protect Paradigm city. Such cannot be said for Big Duo or Fau because of their respective dominuses.

  • Yes, but neither of the true dominus of Fau and Duo were really foun d, were they?

  • Well, Rosewater was Big Fau's dominus because he installed the memory core. The Dominus of Big Duo was never found, but I'd reckon it'd be Dastun.

  • Dastun? Seems kinda random. I'de imagine it'de probably be Schwartzvald.

  • Schwarzwald wasn't the Dominus of Big Duo. So Dastun seems like the logical choice.

  • your right it's schwarzwald that what the manga says

  • schwarzwald was a muckraker who took it to the next step taking down corruption whatnot. he was sorta an anti-hero
