  • Sorry, OS 10.4 is ugly as a wort.

    10.5 & 10.6 are nicer, however.

  • how do you get thhat menu thing at the bottom?? i really want it

  • you wanna know whats PROOF linux sucks? every screencast of ubuntu uploaded to youtube renders wrong, like this. screencapture sucks on linux.

  • yeah and thats why 70% of the servers out there run this sucky os rite? lol. the reast 25% use windows. no one uses a mac as a server. on a desktop basis? more people use linux than mac times two. so yeah. load of people out there that are so stupid using this OS. :|

  • @mjnaik who gives a fuck about servers man... :P

  • yeah no one gives a crap about servers but still that question was lame. lol

  • yea i guess you dont like surfing the web and doing banking and basically living electronically you fucking homer!

  • Ubuntu is based off of Debian Linux For Life!

  • How did you to get that awesome shortcut bar in the bottom? Help me please. I've tried with compiz fusion, but as a starter is pretty dificult to me config.

  • Im pretty sure thats the Avant Window Naviator dock. Search "Avant" in your package manager, provided you are downloading from main server, and are searching all available packages, it should show up. It can then be found in "preferences". Its a very nice program!

  • Mercy Beaucoup.

  • ubuntu is fine yet Linux mint is my Choice because it comes per loaded with flash and other codes.

  • Really? I always enjoyed installing the codecs personally, it allows some flexibility in what I really want.

    Nowadays, I run Slackware/Arch Linux.

  • how is it done that file / edit / etc shows up at the top bar and not inside the window?

  • install macmenubar...

  • The macmenubar package is right, although I do not recommend it, because when I installed it, I couldn't reverse it :p.

  • Heh, it's hard to tell them apart sometimes :).

With Vista it's easy; it just looks as good but goes twice as slow ;)

Ubuntu is definetly holds the title of the most interesting, colorful inference. OS X holds performance. Windows is um.. the most... common?

  • More like the most shitty. =)

  • OS X holds performance or user more user friendliness? I'd say user friendliness, take an Ubuntu fresh... from boot up with the specs given to a Mac... I use a 1.66ghz and the first time it boot up I was amazed. 10x quicker boot up and shutdown. Ofcourse I added all my visuals and slowed it down a bit.

  • The boot up is quicker indeed, the shutdown isn't, Linux closes down quite gently. It stops all processes one by one and saves as much as it can. BSD(were OSX is based on) just kills the apps and shutsdown, quick and dirty

  • With Ubuntu, I think the boot up was a bit faster, but the shutdown was slower. That's because BSD (what Mac OS X is based on) just kills all programs, where Linux tries to close the programs and save the work.

  • and shut almost makes no difference lol. usually people shutdown and leavebut meg sometimes for restart but thats coverd by the super fast boot

  • what are you ussing for a camsoftware

(sorry for my bad english i'm german

  • Where can i find that kind of leopard dock. You could help very much with that.

  • how do you install the leopard window border

  • You can find the window border in the "About this video" Section, and Install it, by opening it with the emeryald theme manager.

  • thnx

  • If I have gusty gibbons, how can i do the 3D flip of the open windows, and how do I flip the desktops?

I know how to with Beryl on 7.04, but not 7.10

    THANKS!

    GavinRoskamp of GTT

  • Hmm not sure what your talking about. Talking about the ring flip? or the desktop or what? You can find all the key bindings and shortcut in the Compiz fuzion control panel.

  • what panel.... I am talking about the flip of the two workspaces, you know: like the sheet of paper, and the reflective surface?

  • ahh. it is done by pressing Ctrl+alt and holding left mouse and moving it, or Ctrl+alt+left or right arrow.

  • that's what I thought would work, but it isn't!

That is why I think they keybindings got either messed up somehow when they imported it into Ubuntu, or somehow when I recorded it to my Live CD, it got missed or it was a broken download, maybe...

I don't know.. the only thing I know is that I hate having to learn new junk every time I upgrade an OS: Windows or Linux... Linux seemed easier until now though.. =-P

  • u gotta go into terminal and type:

    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

    itll download the control panel

  • I downloaded Ubuntu and desided not to install it, Why does this bu11$hit not come with beryl or compiz already installed.

you have to use command lines and crap, you need to be a techy to run ubuntu, I hope not everibody falls for this stuff. I could not get nun of this eyecandy working and not to mention mp3 and a whole bunch of file and videos don't work. It's unpracticle.

  • It does come with compiz-fusion installed, it just doesn't come with the advanced settings manager so you have to use the preset levels of effects (none, normal, or extra). I think they can't have mp3 support pre-installed for legal reasons, but for mp3, flash, and java you can just copy and paste this into terminal:

    sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts flashplugin-nonfree libflashsupport ubuntu-restricted-extras

  • Got it all to work...

Including essential codecs and apps. Not user friendly, but not rocket science either.

  • Thanks.

  • ubuntu is possibly the easiest os to deal with. i figured it all out by looking through the help section integrated in the os. cant be any more simple.

  • Yeah, Ubuntu is one of the easiest Linux OSes to deal with, if not THE easiest. It's like Windows and Mac, there are help files everywhere.

  • You should try Gutsy Gibbon, it has CF built into it as long as your card can support it.

  • ok thanks

  • Yup. If you get a theme of your own going, Post a video!

  • yea it really does. if you could tell me where you got that stuff it would be greatly appreciated.

  • No prob. Check the Video Description.

  • is that compiz on a mac> how you do that?

  • No Its compiz on Ubuntu. Just I went online and looked for some stuff that would emulate the mac. And there we go. Looks just like it though.
