All theses cars were perfectly capable of meeting their quoted bhp figures. You may be thinking of the exaggerated bhp figures that TVR quoted for the Rover V8 engined models? The speed six engined cars did not need rebuilds to achieve the power but due to TVR altering the original engine design created by Al Melling the top end shims and valve train was prone to fail very early on in it's life. These days TVR power offer an unlimited mileage warranty on their rebuilds.
@djfld They also mean you'll actually stop. If you have more braking force than you need, you can just push the pedal less, if you don't have enough... you're fucked.
They don't need abs, there so light and have such large disc brakes, they already have the stopping power and don't lock up. Abs is used on cars where they fit crappy brakes (nearly all cars).
Abs isn't used on cars with crappy brakes, it is used on heavy cars where the manufacturers over pressurise the caliper's hydrolics to compensate for this.
It is only to do with the fact that the TVRs are so light that the brakes don't lock up, as they do not need excessive hydrolic pressure on when braking.
it has nothing to do with a cars weight or clamping force at the brake. abs is used to prevent wheel lock-up, providing more control and a safer stop. every body knows abs brakes take more distance to stop on dry pavement, but are better on wet/icy roads than non-abs.
But only brakes with a strong enough clamping force will lock the wheels up! As a general low down on non-ABS brakes;
On a dry road, lighter, non-ABS cars will use less distance to stop - the wheels may lock up around and below 5mph. However, in the wet, non ABS brakes would lock up, no matter what the clamping force of the brakes (unless something ridiculous) - this is where Servo-assisted brakes have the advantage.
o yes the great british car my dad has had a tuscan s a cerbera light weight 4.5 and a griff 500 but know he has the ultimate british car a noble m12 gt3r beats ferraris lambos enythin :D
I wanna know : how the hell do you start it up ??? I saw a top gear emission about the Tuscan, and the guy asked like 6 people to start it, no one has been able to ! So HOW ??? thanks !
......thats an awesome motor fella, and insurance aint bad at all. How long have you had it, and is it reliable? Ive heard so many horror stories about reliability it just keeps putting me off! Any advice would be useful.

I love TVRs'. Pretty Blue car there. Nice deep rich blue. Nice car, nice sound. Wow!

Big brakes on a light car just means the wheels will lock up even easier!!

Yes I do. The TVR brakes are very efficient.

the Noble is built in south america though, true british cars are built at home. The Noble is a great car, but I don't see it as a British car

Gosh this sounds brilliant, a sophisticated bark like nothing else! Is this the 3.5 or 4.0?
bruckner26 3 years ago
You presume correctly. Max power in third top speed run in 5th.
cgnw28517 3 years ago
rolling road runs should be done in the gear closest to 1:1 normally 4th (sometimes 5th) - doing it in 3rd simply skews the figures.
gr8 car though :)

I heard 3 up-shifts, 4th gear is reached at 1'20"
