@Mikedelike i still dont understand how you can say the handling suffers, its probably one of the best handling cars on the market because of its 4wd system, when the front wheels sense understeer the ECU shifts the power to the rear wheels to reduce it, if the ECU senses oversteer it shifts the power to the front wheels the reduce it and it does this 100s of times a second, on a normal 4WD car you would get understeer but this isnt a normal 4WD car.

Most of the negative responses hatin on the GT500 or American engineers fail to understand the view of the average American driver. The GT500 is muscle car with some track handling capabilities! We want to press the gas pedal and do 3 shift throws to get to 0-60 seconds. Even though the GT-R is an awesome value for the money, I would not want to spend a minimum of 5 hours learning how to set up a GT-R to go 3.0 seconds!

As a proud owner of this amazing Nissan I must say that I'm a little confused that they waited until the 2012 model year to re-input the launch control. It realy makes any average joe look like the stig on steroids for launches.
With all the dick waving going on here, let's not confuse automotive engineers with those of other specializations. Engineers who design space shuttles, nuclear reactors, planes and bombs for the military, etc. are not the same ones who work on sports cars in Detroit.
To me, the Nissan GT-R is really a poor man's Ferrari or Porche 911 Turbo. Only these 2 Euro Super Car, and the Corvette would play in the GT-R's league. All this for around $90k? Not bad.

The GTR is unbelievable quick, it just bogles your mind by seeing it go flat out and when your brain ctop melting down then you realise that even fast ferraris aren't that fast next to GTR you stop and think why would anyone buy porshe or ferrari and the answer is the brand because nothing else comes close. GTR is for other cars what was "Blackbird" for aeroplanes and it cost hell of a lot less than german or italian cars.

The "bigass" LS9 in the ZR1 weighs 530 lbs. ZR1 is RWD and uses a 6 speed manual. Like I told the other top commenter, it all balances out in the end. It doesn't mean American engineers suck.

There are tons of people running low 11s on zr1s. and they trap around 10 mph more in the 1/4 mile. Which means up top, youd be more than raped.

The GTR is unbelievable quick, it just bogles your mind by seeing it go flat out and when your brain ctop melting down then you realise that even fast ferraris aren't that fast next to GTR you stop and think why would anyone buy porshe or ferrari and the answer is the brand because nothing else comes close. GTR is for other cars what was "Blackbird" for aeroplanes and it cost hell of a lot less than german or italian cars.

@innie721 Those with the exception of Launch control are called SAFETY FEATURES.
Traction Control with the touch of a button is off in a ZR1. Not something an experienced track driver wants. And Launch Control is only for amateurs, pros dont need it.
FYI the fastest supercomputer on Earth is the Raytheon system developed in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the F/A 22 Raptor Stealth Fighter. Civilian supercoms dont even compare..

@tom11zz884 Don't think for a minute American engineers suck. The GT-R has AWD and a paddle shifter transmission. The VR engine inside the GT-R weighs 620 lbs. The "bigass" LS9 in the ZR1 weighs 530 lbs. ZR1 is RWD and uses a 6 speed manual. Like I told the other top commenter, it all balances out in the end. It doesn't mean American engineers suck.

Not the best of scenarios for some industries but it keeps my iPod and Nikes cheap so what. Fact is any American car manufacture can load their cars with computers to make up for the lack of driving talent in many but the target market of American performance cars do not want them in their cars. As for that CIVILIAN Japanese computer it couldn't process fast enough to run one system on the F-22, and the Raytheon is also compact enough to be fitted on a military aircraft, try that with any japanese computer.
