Start up time has almost nothing to do with processing speed and hardware quality. it has to do with the OS, and nothing else. Mac OSX is similar to Linux, it is light; therefor it starts up faster. As for everything else, the Vaio is superior. The Vaio has a more powerful processor, and a heatsink to keep it cool; which mac lacks entirely, which is also why Macs overheat constantly. The Sony also has better graphics, so games will run a hell of a lot smoother.

Not only are they more durable but they tend to do the job more quickly. Have you ever seen a load screen of an enterprise based PC before, RUNNING ON A SERVER of course. MEANING: In order to develop a program for Mac you have to send it to Apple and they compose a majority of tests to make sure it does not infringe on security and other things. With Windows, you are entirely in control of what you can make in terms of program and well, thats where viruses come in, trojans, worms, tracking cookies, everything. The fact that Mac is closed plays a big role. Not to mention that it is not Flash Based.
Haha You can still get viruses on Macs :) The only reason there aren't as many for Macs is simply because hackers and programmers who make the viruses want to target the most people as possible, and many, many, more people use PCs as compared to those who use Macs. Therefore, more viruses are made for PCs, it's not that Mac somehow just eliminates the possibility of getting a virus.

I just replaced my new 17" MBP with a sony vaio last week. I fell for the apple hype too. simply the mac is way overpriced and the Mac Os X doesn't hold a candle compared with windows 7. And who says Mac OS doesn't crash?! I had it a few times in the 2 weeks that I had the Mac. May be in the past buying a mac would make a sense but not nowadays with windows 7.

@grandmarkai That is not true, I know of a lot of companies that were former PC user based enterprises and our now switching to Mac for its stability and durability. Not only are they more durable but they tend to do the job more quickly. Have you ever seen a load screen of an enterprise based PC before, RUNNING ON A SERVER of course. And we all know, servers are supposed to make the computer faster because resources are not loading from the hard drive but from the server.

@rajinirulez To be exact, it is a closed operating system. MEANING: In order to develop a program for Mac you have to send it to Apple and they compose a majority of tests to make sure it does not infringe on security and other things. With Windows, you are entirely in control of what you can make in terms of program and well, thats where viruses come in, trojans, worms, tracking cookies, everything. The fact that Mac is closed plays a big role. Not to mention that it is not Flash Based.

Haha You can still get viruses on Macs :) The only reason there aren't as many for Macs is simply because hackers and programmers who make the viruses want to target the most people as possible, and many, many, more people use PCs as compared to those who use Macs. Therefore, more viruses are made for PCs, it's not that Mac somehow just eliminates the possibility of getting a virus.

@rajinirulez okay here is the thing, macbooks can get viruses, not as easy because the viruses that are made on pc's will not work on mac's, however, if someone makes a virus on a mac, you can get one, and with more people getting mac's now a days i bet the count of viruses for macs are gonna go up! but don't let thins turn you off of macs, they are great computers, well made, and come with a lot of programs built in that pc's don't (which is one of the reasons they cost more),

@rajinirulez continued... the main thing is the life of the device, a pc user may have their pc 2-3 years max before it flops or serious stuff needs to be done to it (which means serious money), a mac user with have theirs for 5+ years w/o putting a bunch of extra money into it...i have had a pc that i paid $700 for in the begining i have invested at least another $500-$700 into fixing the thing, if you think about it, i could just save that money and buy a mac and still ahve money left over!

@rajinirulez They do get viruses written for Mac but the number of cases is tiny compared to windows , this is largely because the Mac os is based on the unix kernal , an incredibly secure platform .

Times change, and Mac never changed with it. This explains why $700 medium range PCs will last 3 times longer than $1200 Macbooks. The lack of a heatsink and anti-virus is damaging to any computer, which is why Mac is inferior. Also, PCs support flash, Mac doesn't. PCs are more compatible too, and upgrades are easy.

Vaio is just as overpriced and shitty as Mac. Put that Macbook's performance up again an Alienware, ASUS, or Lenovo; you see it get outperformed in every aspect. Today, in 2011; Mac OSX is actually MORE, yes MORE prone to getting viruses than Windows 7. Vista was very flawed, but from Vista to win7, infections dropped over 76% do to the security changes. So do some research before you express your blind fanboyism.
Another thing Windows has far over Mac is variety, PCs can also run Flash.

what exactly is this supposed to prove anyway? Tell me, what was the price difference? Probably cost about the same price I'm guessing. Also, most laptop companies like to cram useless software on the default installation. A fresh install of windows (not with the recovery discs) would probably smoke these results. Even if not, who cares. Booting speeds doesn't make the computer any better. Oh, and what about gaming benchmarks? oh ya, Macs aren't known for supporting games, so... =P

Leopard is a lot faster then Windows BUT:
A)Apple systems are ridiculously expensive.
B)Apple system use lesser hardware
C)MBP's overheat (google MacBook Pro Boil Water)
Personally I say install Snow Leopard on a PC...this way you get the best of both worlds!!!

I think macs are better cause they are more user friendly might not be able to deal with the hardest of things i believe but the majority of us dont use our computers for hardcore programing etc anyways.. For an average joe who likes to use his computer for fun and family would consider mac to be much better.. it looks feels and has the basic options just right!

@argoshammersmith I sincerely agree with you. A lot of people believe that PCS are made for exclusive programming and that Mac's are so basic that stupid and incoherent people use them. That view in incorrect, due to the fact that people should have a choice as to what they would prefer to use. A majority of people use Macs because they are "simpler" in terms of user friendliness and overall understanding. Not to mention the fact that Mac users have the benefit of tutorials prior to purchase.

people say macs are over priced but most pcs either came with Win 7 basic or Win XP and since Win 7 Ultra is £200 and Mac OS is £100 means that new macs indisputably have a better os, Win 7 Basic doesn't even let you change your background for goodness sakes, not to mention it making boot up take longer with unneeded graphics, what's wrong with the OS logo and a loading bar?

PC's will not have any problems if you keep them well, I've had my Dell Dimension now for 7 years and I've used it just about every day of those 7 years, NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT!

if you are comparing the two OS, you must change the title!! even in that case it is a wrong test. The two systems must be exactly the same so that you can compare the OS's (CPU, size of HD, speed of HD, memory, load of installed sofware, etc), nothing is clarified here! 10 different vaio's can have 10 different startup times

i have an extremely powerful pc in the corner thats sometimes hooked up to a 37" hd tv ps3 60gb xbox 360 slim dreamcast black wii gamecube n64 a high end 5.1 surround sound for the ps3 and a sony stacker system.
the pc alone was worth £1,200 when it was new 2 years ago the only thing it needs is a new monitor desk and graphics card.

I just replaced my new 17" MBP with a sony vaio last week. I fell for the apple hype too. simply the mac is way overpriced and the Mac Os X doesn't hold a candle compared with windows 7. And who says Mac OS doesn't crash?! I had it a few times in the 2 weeks that I had the Mac. May be in the past buying a mac would make a sense but not nowadays with windows 7.
