I thank a lot for this very very rare recording of Tiger Varadachar. I am happy to tell you that I belong to his direct student line as my father was his last direct student and studied along with M. D. Ramanathan.
My father use to tell me many stories related his great teacher Sri tiger. One thin I would like to tell you that when this recording was done, the technology was very very new and you are expected to get lot of problem related to voice. So just ignore and listen to the legend.
Obviously the recording was made after the master was way past his prime in his old age. But even then one can see in the shadow what must have been his style, charm and mastery in his days.
One must be qualified to comment on the rendition by our Legendary Tiger. Let us just enjoy it and stop giving unwanted and uncalled for remarks or any form of negative comments. At least one should be able to render 200 hundred carnatic classics to even consider any form of comments.
this is amazing to see such a rare picture and voice. what a treat!!! thank you, thank you.
You dont have te a good singer in order to have the gem of carnatic music in you. and as Tiger has shown, he had it and gave it to his students. the world of carnatic music would not be the same without Tiger. Yawl need to stop and look at the big picture before giving a negative opinion about him.
I should agree with RamLakshmanan. This is called Ashta konal singing. But, these gurus devoted their time to make lot of good musicians for the world. Luckily, this style of ashta konal abhaswara singing did not spread to many except Dr. MDR. He was better in many ways and he also devoted to teach music. So we should thank god. However, with the same or more speed, GNB sounded excellent and no drop in swaras or bruhaas. No wonder he was titled prince of music/
Have never heard Tiger until now, was a pleasure listening. Very close to what I had imagined of him........ having read a ton about him........ long live Tiger's name and fame!

I had expected MDR's teacher to be a great singer, but this is a terrible rendering of a beautiful song. I don't think it's the recording's fault.

I think because of the audio quality of the recording, the actual rendering seems distorted. It must have been a very old record.

Horrible! So many apaswarams, brutal murdering of the sahityam, pathetic singing - what an affront to carnatic music!!
