  • sounds like bach harpsichord concerto in d minor at some point, shows brahms studied bach

  • Oooh I really like this piece! I'm choosing between this, brahms g minor rhapsoday, and Schumann's Aufschwung for a romantic piece that'll pry end up being used for college auditions.... I think I'm going to go with this piece, it's beautiful and has a lot of contrast from what I've heard... not to mention I love a good accending tenor line in a piece of music (Gershwin's spanish prelude has an awesome one)

  • I like that !

  • @inblahblahland

Do u have a right to criticize other people like that?! as long as its not u dont care about how others do! i bet u couldnt do better than that! Ive been playing piano for 10 years and Ive never seen many others so gifted!!! FYI I got a scholorship to julliard! SO THERE!!!!!!! dont criticize other people plzzzz.....

  • I <3 the way you express yourself!!

  • I <3 the way you express yourself!!

  • I <3 the way you express yourself!!!

  • I <3 the way you express urself!!!

  • A fantastic performance that breathes wonderfully.

  • It needs some space. Too busy for Brahms... but she is so gifted!

  • citlali, grandioso.

  • are you a professional pianist? there are false, omitted and collapsed notes in almost all of your performances.

and where's the brute force? this is brahms, not schubert. fingers should be dug deep into the keys, not smacked and released.

it's musically very pretty but a lot of the musicality is misplaced.

  • Cool!!!

  • rubatos are acceptable but you should reconsider the amount in some places..

    great touch.

  • brava!

  • you...are very talented...

    (i'm still in shock!)

  • I personnaly think therre are too many mistakes to say that's wonderful but...

  • i'm now really profficient at this piece, and i've heard it countless times.

could you please tell me where these "mistakes" are, since, as you artfully put it, there are "too many...to say that it's wonderful but..."

  • Don't laugh at me, I'm just saying what I think! (sorry for my bad english)

PS:I'm talking about musical mistakes, as wrong accents.

  • Thanks for your kindness ! Anyway if anybody does not enjoy a piece, he's immediatly handled with traitor ! (sorry for my bad english)

  • I am a Brahms Chamber Music fanatic. People who are not very in to his music are unaware that Brahms would occasionally write material in his chamber pieces that didn't quite work - That is part of the charm. I am sure Citlalli is playing it as written, although stylistically I prefer her other video.

    Tim R.

  • @Timgr11 That's an interesting thought! Which chamber pieces specifically were you referring to?

  • I also have the impression that the piece isnt't breathing enough.

  • amazing RUNS!

  • at point 1:53 playing a little slower and softer would make it sound sooo beautiful.. anyway you did a great job. 10/10

  • This is wonderful. I enjoy just watching you caress the keys during the quieter parts. And wonderful passion during the more powerful passages. Bravo !

  • i love seeing latin players, there so dramatic and graceful i love this piece

  • it's great, very brahms, but sentences not clear enough,

  • Good tempo. You play the piece in a very dignified manner that suits brahms.

  • your interpretation is slightly different from mine.. but still your technique is great. rofl. its a great piece, love it.

  • i'm just learning this piece, and it is so awesome. i've always liked it anyway

i listened to this to get a good feeling as to how the piece could be executed, and this is just what i was looking for!!

i love her interpretation of this piece, and her hand movements. very graceful.

    :)

  • only thing I don't like is that in the first section of the piece, it just sounds like you are hitting the keys as loud as you can. There needs to be some MAJOR dynamic contrast in the first section to make it interesting at all.

  • better than a few so-called greats i could mention (ok, I'll mention one - Argerich! This is a performance of comsumate, orthodox musicianship and solid technique which puts Argerich to shame)

  • Wonderful interpretation. You absolutely possess the richness of Brahms. HOWEVER, as "sweet" as your sound is, the dynamics need to have more contrast. Maybe it's just the recording, but still great overall.

  • nice!

  • Bravo!!!

  • This is a particularly wonderful interpretation

  • A lot of emotions.

  • Clear the pedal a bit

  • agree

  • Great performance, very enjoyable.

  • I'm preparing this piece for a recital right now and listened in for some insight.

I LOVE the way you fling the arpeggios near the end of the B section. I've always found that difficult to do tastefully, but you do it nicely.

  • sounds wonderful!! this piece is great.

  • This is pretty good.

  • Nice. I just realised that this piece can be made in to a never ending loop.

And i realise that she uploaded her own video. wow. she's cool. :D

  • impresionante bravo chapo no hay palabras exactas para definir como toca porque lo hace genial

  • dear xenobli,if you are learning this ,may i suggest to find a recording by "Radu LUPU"!

    i like his brahms best.regards.

  • I didn't like the way she played it. I'm learning this right now, the dynamics in her playing don't seem to have much contrast. Rubato's a bit excessive, and it starts a bit rushed. And I don't remember a repeat after the first theme...I did like the level of clarity she played with though, but a bit less pedal would be very nice.

  • I agree about the excessive rubato. I think the dynamics is fine though. You can tell by the way she contacts the keys that the touches are different(listen to the d minor section) Also, somebody recommended curved fingers, I don't think that is necessary. If your fingers are strong enough, flat fingers are fine, especially for legato sections.

The duet section feels a little fast.

  • Yeah, I don't curve my fingers when I play this all that much...maybe in some of the slower parts...

  • There is a repeat after the first section. A lot of pianists leave it out because of the length of the piece and the fact that the A section repeats exactly after the middle slow section before the coda. You've probably been looking at the Kalmus edition. Check the Henle.

  • I actually have the Schirmer Urtext, in which the repeat is completely left out.

  • Schirmer Urtext? LOL I think that you have the Gebhard edition published by Schirmer. Check measure 29 (right before the d minor section) in the Henle Urtext. Schirmer doesn't have "urtext". It was publishers like Schirmer that created the need of urtext.

  • Oops my bad, my piano teacher has me get a lot of Schirmer. Yeah, I have the Henle Urtext, and now that I look at it for the first time in a month or so, there IS a repeat there, although I've never played it. I've only ever played the repeat in the middle section.

  • When you do the repeats in the B Major section, how do you diversify your sound? Do you revoice?

  • First time I play through, I just play it like it is, second time I bring out a few of the chords more, bring out the top note more. On the second repeat, I put in a bit more ritardando towards the end, etc. First time through each is just how it's written, second is much more Romantic.

  • i agree, too much rubato, but i do admire the way she is being bold enough to make a very individual interpetation, and technique is first rate

  • Really fantastic!

  • fanastic, definately not lift music.

  • One of the better renditions on youtube. My one true comment aside from differences of interpretation is your technique. Curving your fingers will improve immensely.

    Otherwise, bravo, and well done.

  • bravo!!! very good expression and technique, i'm so glad you didn't butcher it like the others on youtube with excessive rubato and harsh dynamics

  • Tienes estilo propio....No matter..sigue adelante......I love you....Te lleva el sentir de Brahms ...I feel it...

  • Downloaded it!

Nice! I'm learning this piece right now, and this video helps me alot with those 32nd note scales (couldn't figure out the timing), thanks for a good performance! xD.

Felicitaciones,

  • I liked it! Brahms is very hard to play in the sence of making the piece sing. Most of the time I hear people playing these pieces and they just play the notes and thats it. Its not musical then, but I liked what you did.

  • Magnifico!! Un orgullo tener tan buenos pianistas mexicanos!!!! Felicidades!!!

  • Very impressed by this performance. I thought your interpretation was passionate and evocative. I found your playing to this more tasteful than Rhapsody #2. Either way, very lovely!

  • great. i play it too, but I wonder if so much liberty can be taken, shouldnt the pulse go just on and on? And what about the staccatos? please help me, i'm 14 years old and i have to play it for a pianoconcours.

  • you're correct, i beleive it needs much a much more regular tempo. Brahms loved a tight structure, thematic clarity and logic above out and out attack

  • actually..disregard my last entry! i listened again and i see that you have great technique, musicianship and control of tempi. you are simply putting your individual interpretation onto it with a lot of 'rhapsodic' characterization and imagination. i do think the middle section could be 'sweeter' and more phrased, and the D minor 'pp' theme quieter.

  • wonderfully engaging performance of both Op. 79's! Rubato is handled especially well: never interfering with the larger pulse and flow. The exquisite coda of the b minor was appropriately gripping, in a very intellectual way (a distinct phenomenon in well-played Brahms), becoming neither too languid and shapeless, nor too perfunctorily marching into the Major. Fantastic musicality in pieces both technically and musically challenging. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes from Canada!

  • fine techniques! interpretation has depth! good job!

  • Better than Helene Grimaud, good tempo (no rush), clear and musically beautiful. Thanks for your performance.

  • Dearest Citlalli, I'm so impressed, it's really excellent playing. Performance is full of passion and temperament. Congratulations.

  • ohhhh great piece, I can't play it cose so difficult for me, great interpretation.

  • Qué entrada fracasante en Youtube, impecable tu interpretacion. Que seas la bienvenida.
