My dad Terry Holmes was the lead singer and guitarist of Chords five and my Uncle Phil was the keyboard player. They were also known as the Hammers at one time x

to put the record straight the Chords Five recorded Universal Vagrant on the

Island label NOT the Smoke they were a completely different band who actually penned the other side of that single called Im only Dreaming

As I was in fact a member of the Chords Five I think I am qualified to verify the real facts

there is in fact a Smoke album out which has several Chords Five tracks

on it claiming it is The Smoke recording as the Chords Five which is total bollocks

@diosamin As the writers were messrs Feldman,Goldstein,Gotterer and Farrell,AKA the Strangeloves,I think it safe to assume that the Chords Five version is actually a cover? The original by the Merry Dragons? Both superb,though Im not sure if the Merry Dragons and the Strangeloves were the same band.

@MrSoulstylist In fact, Chords Five and The Smoke were the same band and alternated song publishings at the same time for at least two years.

Universal Vagrant was covered by famous peruvian band Los Shains, and surely more bands round the world did the same over the years.
