Sweet job there, champcar4ever. Those memories really are 4ever. And, as you know, there's a ton more as well. A complete CART highlight compilation would be very long indeed.
One problem: Things are anything but "Still the Same". More like" Just take those old Betas off the shelf, I sit and listen to Paul Page all by myself. Today's Champcars haven't got the same soul - I like the way that CART used to roll!"."
Seeing all those races I was at or watched on TV was great. Such memories from Zanardi's pass at Laguna and Al Jr's win, or should I say Scott Goodyear's loss! Thank You again.
It was the best series I've ever known. That was real racing and trully drivers. No doubt Alex Zanardi was one of the best. And the cars were beautyful!!! We miss CART!!! Thank you for the memories!!!
Como extraños la CART y ChampCar, esos hermosos años dorados del automovilismo de america no volveran pero pero son los mejores, La IRL ahora llamada Indycar es una porqueria que da asco, y lastima, Maldito Tony George deshiciste algo bello para crear basura
As Colombian I declare myself a Formula Cart lover, I still remember Michigan Final Lap with Michael Andretti, Juan you're awesome! ChampCart4ever THX for the memories!
This makes me cry. We're missing too much nowadays. Indycar was awesome back then. Like with most single seater motor racing now, this series has lost its way.
If i had a time machine, i would travel back to the early 80s and relive the 80s and 90s again,.. and again and again. I think in general if you ask any motorsport fan they all will say that racing was better back then , then to what it is these days. Thats how i feel to, racing was better in 80s 90s.
If time travel was possible, I'd take Robin Miller and Mario Andretti with me to 1994 and talk Tony out of creating the IRL. Or at least convince him that the 25/8 rule sucked donkey balls.
And it began to suck the lifeblood out of IndyCar racing, as the Indy 500 without the stars (Andretti, Unser, Rahal; you know the cast!) was destined to fail.
What a great racing series - shame it lost its way in its later years with that stupid spec car (Panoz). Although IRL and its spec Dallaras are no better. Lose-Lose.
I can't help but to think that the part where Sullivan spins out to "cards would never do you wrong'" and then to Mario, with 'never play the game too long' was intentional. Well done.
I went to the Vancouver indy twice...it was so much fun. too bad the hippies forced it to leave. "It's too loud" It's one weekend a year ya goofs...and you guys have free views....so why are you complaining.
i use to love goin to the vancouver indy every year we had it here. best racing i have ever seen. best experience also and damn the woman all looked fine too at those events lol
I was not even walking for the first videos of this movie...but...I grew up on Champ cars...and sad to see them go - hope there is some miracle re-emergence of public interest...
Having spent a good part of my life 88-06 some of those memories are forever etched in my soul, 1999 was the last year it was fun,(miss you Greg)there will never be a series like CART ever again. man what a ride it was...Thanks for posting.
i agree with that was the last year of the truth american open wheel, the actual indycar series is only a shadow of cart, i hope the actual series grow with time and come better drivers but CART was the best.
CART was my life from 1997 to about 2003 when it really started to crumble. That and I'd just discovered the ALMS. Favorite driver has always been Zanardi ever since he took the win at Portland (my first race), even liked Montoya till he sold out. Truly a timeless series, yet, like Can-Am, it had to go...
I totally agree with you. i get up watching CART but Montoya never sold out. It was a whole plan for him to go into f1 after a few seasons in CART. That was the plan the whole time. he never sold out.
I loved seeing JPM in CART and F1. Wish he would have been in F1 when it was not a Shumi or more specifically, Ferrari dominance. He only went to NASCAR because of the lack of true racing in F1. I would have prefered to see JPM go to Ganassi's team in the IRL over NASCAR. Stupid IRL. I wish CART would have survived.
Gosh I just can't believe how the IRL has destroyed Indy Car racing. And this years Pole Day has once again proven that even with unification, the damge has taken its toll. Nobody showed up. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
it´s a shame the CART series was the best, tony george suck´s he destroyed the open wheel racing in america and most competitive category in the world, in at time this gonna be major than f1, such a shame. i love the reynard chassis, US 500, indy 500 (Cart Cars)and laguna seca, the irl chassis is ugly.

I am truly happy though that the potential for greatness is again a possibility now that unification has taken place. My major issue with the new Inycar series is the slow old Dallaras they use. 2010 is going to be the defining moment because of the new equipment. We need turbos back and hopefully a couple of engine and chasis manufacturers. BTW go Graham!!!! Whata race and what a way to show the old IRL boys how its done on street courses. Now for ovals....????
Hmm...funny. Graham Rahal won at St. Petersburg. Six of the top ten positions were occupied by ex-Champ Car drivers. So let's see...that makes an ex-Champ Car team winning in only the second race of reunification. Want to eat those words now, Steve?
BlueFox, sadly, as I understand things, the IRL cars are what all the teams will be using this year. Hopefully the future will see a development away from that format and maybe towards something like the machinery you and I remember and love! I feel the same way about F1 and the way it was in the 80s and 90s
Well, with the merger finally done, maybe *some* of the glory of US open wheel racing will return. . . Now I'm really inrested in what machinery they'll be using. . . Damn, I'd love to hear the turbo's screaming at Indy again. . .
Probably either Cheever, Luyendyk, Robby Gordon, or Michael Andretti.
I'm glad this unification is happening - I just hope the IRL includes some of the great Champ Car venues in the '09 schedule - places like Burke Lakefront Airport, Toronto, Road America, and places like that. The only CC race I watched last year was the Cleveland race, and damn, it was good. Here's hoping it continues.
As a european I've always loved Champ Car, yes theres some ovals but IRL is mainly ovals and I'm sorry you americans, Here in Europe we just don't get it....... never turning right!!!!!!
hey manmonkee, do you get drag racing? you don't turn AT ALL. Drag Racing is the purest form of motorsport, followed by ovals. Road courses are just a complication of something that should be simple, maybe you think the 400 meter dash should have left AND right turns?!!?
Sorry to offend:), I was just brought up to believe racing happened on a race course, I'm ill educated enough to even think drag RACING is a misleading title, I would just call it drag...... Oh and thanks Katm6, nice to know some of you guys don't get it either
Well, I get it...oh wait, I'm a fan of NASCAR, but you're right. I would like to see more roadies on the NASCAR schedule, but it started as an oval series, it'll be that way. It's just that most of us can't stand roadies because there's just no passing there. What most of them don't know is that it is possible to pass on them. If it's too narrow, improvise.
To have a good series you need a good mix of ovals and road courses. Oval tracks and road courses are two completely different things and compariong them is like comparing a mailbox to a toaster. They both take different skills. I personally think ovals are more nerve-racking becasue there is always a possibility of passing.
I forgot to say thank you champcar4ever, thanks for the videos you post here to show the world how great indycar/champcar racing once was [even without push/power to pass :D]. I hope you will continue to do so now that your nick will soon only be a nostalgic reference.
That was excellent. Great ending. They'd better bring back those things LolaJudd asked for and the best races too. And do something about that IRL name. Then I'll keep watching. But I'll miss CART/CC too. RIP.
The merger had to occur in order for open-wheel to survive. Both series' have been on the decline. I just hope that the new leaders of this merged series have learned from the mistakes from the CART regime and work on putting open-wheel back as the top racing series in America. Thank you CART/CC for the great memories.
The new leaders is singular. TFG and he finally got what he wanted - to be the Bill France, Jr. of open wheel racing. I'm done. I refuse to reward him for his selfish, idiotic behavior in destroying the greatest racing series.
The only difference is that nowadays AOWR is just a freckle on the stockcar-face of US racing.
In 1994, FTG decided he would make the Indy 500 the center of AOWR again [though that position had never been stronger] and when he could not get the CART board shaped the way he wanted it [his total control] he set out to kill CART altogether.
Congrats TG, you did it ! Now have fun with the 'revitalized' IRL. Without the incentive to kill CART your fun will soon end and AOWR will finally be dead.
I just wonder what Tony George thinks sitting at home on a Sunday... "Well that showed those Cart teams...see how much better off we are under my leadership...so much is diff now" yeah right.. all thats happened is that we have ended up where we were before, but in a much poorer state. The songs title is so apt and sad. Lets hope this is the start of the rebirth of open wheel racing in America
