How could that guy @ 2:36 have been reading 2000ad since the early 70's when it didn't appear until 1977? I have the first issue (prog). I smell a fake here. He doesn't look like he's got any ''thrill'' power.
I'm not a nerd..or a 'rock guy' but I've read 2000ad since the 70s..I'm not even that much into comics to be honest..but 2000ad is far more than a comic..it is a British institution on a par with tea, cricket and the crown jewels..
I'm sure you know what he meant. In his defense, he was pretty drunk (or had at least drunk quite a lot) and has holding himself up pretty well I thought.
@dbrooks76 is it really that IMPORTANT? Its a rubbish film anyway. Hes credited as a writer on IMDb so thats enough for me. Dont get so hung up over crap!
Us british comic readers are nothing like american comic readers. American comic readers-nerds...British comic readers- Kick-arse middle-aged rocky guys.
Correct. I don't remember him being on Fist of Fun though. As I recall I tried to out 2000ad him by explaining how many Starlords I had. I think he had more (I don't think I have the first one).
I agree. Very, very few American comics have ever been any good at all (only the Conan and Batman comics come to mind, in this regard). 2000AD has had had only 1 or 2 dud stories(Big Dave), otherwise it's way, way ahead of all other comics, worldwide.Just a pity that Hollywood screwed up the Judge Dredd movie - they should have done something similiar to Burton's Batman movie, instead.
Bollocks! DON'T romanticise... YES there are some outstanding works, but there were also MANY MANY crap stories published 2000AD and that is why the near non existent British comics industry has always been dwarfed by the American output, where ALL the British talent have gone.
OK, perhaps there were a few more crap strips in 2000AD than just Big Dave, but the American comics are so bad, by comparison to 2000AD, in terms of quality and their lowbrow, repetitive stories that they're a joke. Yes, a lot of British talent has gone over to the US, but only because the US pays artists and writers so much more, not for any other reason.
I think getting due global recognition for your work plays an important part too. Getting published in the US or anywhere other than the UK. Being a UK Comic artist or writer simply does not get comparable respect from the overall population in the UK unlike in the US even France. It's a social thing.
My favorite US comics have often been drawn and written by UK talent.
I have been living in Sweden for a few years, and the general appeal comics have is much greater than in the UK. It is very common to find female comic fans, which was quite an eye opener for me. I just don't understand the British mentality that reduces an artform JUST because it's different. Apparently universities turn away art students that show comic art based work.
Actually Cactus has a half point. When you look at the Eagle, Commando, DC Thompson's humor titles, the girls comics esp. Tammy and Misty, the terrible trio of Battle, Action and 2000AD, Warrior, the ballsy Crisis, Deadline and Revolver and just plain mad Toxic!, british comics have experiment *much* more than US rivals.
At the roots of UK comics is a wackiness similar in a way to Japan's manga. Early 2000AD was all in black and white. This may have contributed to the downfall of UK comics when Marvel stormed in during the early '80s with colour.
I wish Warrior hadn't tanked and that we had more Moore UK work.
But with only one real teen+ comic on the shelf it's hard to take chances and find new talent. There should be more creativity in modern 2000AD not just endless recycling of Dredd, Alpha & Slaine.
It's gafflebette, not gaffblett, you grexnix.

The legendary Glenn Fabry said that.

It was a fairly brief appearance. He played Rich's obnoxious French exchange pen-pal.

Terry Pratchet was a 2000AD fan eh? British comics have always been better than American comics (Marvel/DC) and their self righteous, linear crap.
