It appears prototypes have the potential to be faster than formula cars (less drag and a wider wheel base), why doesn't someone capitalize on this or why doesn't an F1 team build a prototype?

I would assume that they could get some sort of special dispensation to compete by the ACO.

@vir123456 The engineering concept of such a car is possible, any company could improve the aerodynamic of their cars, theoretically speaking (FIA/ACO). There have been accidents which demonstrates that the pilots are not perfect (except Ayrton Senna, rest in peace), so if the we start to increase aerodynamic it would be necessary to improve the engine to maintain the same power/grip. By this i mean that the sport would be more dangerous considering that the tracks would still be the same.

I would love to see the full lap. I hear the track record was smashed. I'd bet they are flat in 90% sector 1.
