  • awesome.

  • Fuck me. Thrice is my favorite band of all time. Their musicianship is on an entirely different level then most bands, and they're absolutely brilliant.

  • Anyone who calls you a noob isn't someone you need to be offended by. haha

  • This song always gives me chills.

  • teppei is hilarious lol

  • @777cable

right on! looks kinda drunk though ;)....the missed chords, the smile, the closed eyes....

    anyway, thrice never fails.

  • @MrExitghost Some singers make weird faces when they sing, maybe Dustin like to have his eyes closed and a smile on his face :]

  • teppei isn't homeless noob...

    Hes a fucking ninja

    love these guys to death...

  • i spy homeless teppei

  • hahaha dustin is just sitting there singing

  • I thrice that

  • wow nice!!!

  • u cant get better than dustin in lyrics i love the end when the music starts to fade to think of that u have to be a genious

  • Wonderul voice, wonderful lyrics...his voice carries brilliantly! Dustin Rules!

  • such sad song

dustin is a genious songwriter indeed

  • ...Is Dustin wearing a t-shirt that says "Dustin" on it? XD

    I love this song. <3

  • nope, it's dublin... but it's not easy to tell :)

  • The brilliance of Dustin's lyrics and indeed of the music that goes with it is that it transcends religion, it addresses and questions mankind as a whole and in doing so is able to strike a chord with anyone regardless of their faith or religious affiliation or belief in god or not.

Thats where the power of this music lies.

  • nice man. everyone who is wondering of thrice's faith and all that bullshit should read what you said here

  • While that's very true, There is so much of his writing that is almost directly quoted fro mthe Bible. In my opinion he takes the wisdome and truth that is in the Bible and makes it more real than all of the Religious Christians out there. I am very much a christian, but I think "Religion" kills. I would venture to say that Dustin Feels the same way!

  • You all make good points. I think at the end of the day it really doesn't matter as like Grimeybob says, it can be applied to anyone regardless of their religion.

  • yes religion kills. only difference between Christians and non believers is that they believe in Christ and God and the Holy Spirit and hav a relationship with them. and the other stuff but thats the main

  • good comment.

  • omg, i love watching teppei mess up :P

this is my personal favourite thrice song ever.

so many dimentions put together in such a simple sounding song. In my opinion, dustin a genious.

  • Absolutely fantastic! I've always known Teppei was a great guitarist but his singing really is underrated! Brilliant!

  • It's basically saying we are all Earth's child. As a whole. Humanity is Her child.

  • the thing that blows me away about that whole theme, is that its not only earth singing to humanity, but its also god singing to adam.

im not religious, but i respect dustins beliefs. i just cant get over how many dimentions these lyrics have :|

  • Dustin and Teppei never cease to amaze me. This song is brilliant.

  • I would think it's addressed to humanity as a whole, but to everyone on an individual basis. We all die and are placed into the earth, "now safe beneath their wisdom and their feet". This seems to imply it's not talking about the death of humanity as a whole, but one person passing on, where he or she finally sleeps and his or her matter is reconstituted in the creation of new life.

  • I think its to an individual person, not humanity as a whole.

"like every child youve chose to rebel"

    "CHILD of dust"

  • humanity could be easily viewed as one entity, so child can be appropriate. And theres no doubt its the element speaking to mankind.

  • yeah thats they way i see it

  • yeah the way I figure it the song is from the point of view of the earth, and the passing away of mankind by there own mistakes, war and there complete disregard for the own enviroment, but im having trouble with the line "below there wisdom and thier feet" if humanity is dead and being buried who is "they"? aliens or the next inteligent species on earth or something like that? O.o

  • prodigal son parable...the bible check it out.

  • it's not heavily referencing the prodigal son

parable, just making a point of a son running

away to follow his own desires. the connection is there though. Dustin references Bible material often.

about the "wisdom and feet" line: it's not

speaking of all mankind, just the "son"

mentioned in the first line. the son is

buried, away from the "wisdom" of the world

and it's ways, their body in permanent rest

within the earth. those last two lines coming

in muffled move me every time on the cd.

  • its nice to see that they are human and mess up a little....and still sounding amazing.

  • Those beards are of Chuck Norris ancestry.

  • u can see teppei screwed up the chords a few times. the little smerks give it away haha

  • I like how The Flame Deluge, Kings Upon the Main, Silver Wings, and Child of Dust all endthe same way. In a way, it connects the four alchemys.

  • yep. theyre all sonnets too.

  • Perfect for the last song of The Alchemy Index.

  • i figured out a couple of days ago that the whole song is from the ears of some being buried alive while people are chanting the song above you, then at the end the coffin shuts and you hear the shovel pour dirt on you and everyones voice becomes muted and they say, "Now safe beneath they're wisdom and they're feet. Here I Will Teach You Truly How To Sleep."....genious.

  • hey i was wondering where you had read that or found out about it. if you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated.

  • A good guess, but incorrect. The last song on each of the Alchemy Index records is written as if that element were the one speaking the words. Yes, they do use a sweet trick making it sound like the song is being buried in the earth, but the lyrics weren't written as if from a person being buried. It's awesome stuff, Dustin writes amazing lyrics.

  • papertigers is right yo.

  • I thought it was just the end sounds are dirt being shoveled onto a microphone...?

  • They actually placed the microphone into a wooden box to muffle the the sound on the album version.

  • like a coffin :)

    appropriately

  • though above the world will toil and turn

  • no prying spade will find you here below

  • haha teppei fucked up with the harmonies a couple times

  • I'm glad I got to be there to see em. Sucked though that you couldn't take cameras to the Marquee show.

  • that song is truly epic. i cant wait till they play it in england because everyone will know the words by then and i just imagine the whole crowd singing along. it just makes you want to stand up sing along with all your heart and soul
