Grazie ! I've posted this on d2l for students. Going abroad when I was an undergraduate totally changed my life. I went to Hull, England, but had the chance to visit Italy for four days during the winter break. Cortona (Arezzo) was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen. . . dropped off by the train at 4am, the old man said something like "dieci chilometri, tutti diretti"; then climbing the little mountain until the olive trees appeared, silhouettes against the purpling sky . . . .
