I bought through EPP. I noticed that the Dell is bit mischievious. In all their discount models, they offer low end CPUs in the respective processor families. For eg., in EPP the highest processer offered was P8800. Later I called them directly and pissed of the sales person so much that he gave me the same configuration but wth P9600 processor for the same price - along with the EPP discounts. but I still think Dell is making a lot of profit margin.

Solid state shouldn't be loud, it doesn't have the spindle like the SATA drives have. I am waiting for my XPS Studio 13 should be arriving in couple of days. A month ago I lost XPS M1210 at JFK . Although I used it for 31/2 years I loved the laptop so much. That's why I am again going back to XPS family, although was bit intimidated by MacBook Pro/Air

I too lost my XPS M1210 due to Motherboard failure. Cost $300-$400 just for the MB.  I loved that machine and now in the market for something comparable. How do you like your XPS Studio 13?

@Andoomo Not so happy with XPS studio 13. I had to stop many shadow processes that were freezing up the disk I/O (got 7200 RPM still now good). I like the picture quality and processing speed (obvious to Penyrin processors). I felt that I should have waited a few weeks. Now you can get Core i7 processors for the same price. Noticed Win7 is taking almost 1.3gig RAM and XPS reserves another .25 gig for hardware. I've got 4gig, but thinking should've got six as I want to virtualize my pc.

For most people Windows 7 home premium should be fine, seems good to me.

Looks like you probably can't really play it, but there's other laptops with about four times the graphics power.

Also keep in mind that GTA4 has been criticized for having high system requirements and it's been criticized for not running to well even if you're well about the recommended system.

It also needs a very powerful CPU as well as GPU, a lot of people said they should of done a better job putting it on PC>

good performance after about a month, some minor problems with vista, but that's irrelavent.

Graphics are a little disappointing.....

You can get this system with 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo and 6 MB Cache as well as Nvidia N10M with 512 memory, and even 8 GB DDR3 memory.

That's some serious power for such a portable laptop.

The thing that's driving me crazy is that a few of my games would be better if I just had a smidge more power, I have the 9400M G and 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 3 MB cache, and 4 GB DDR3.

Although seeing the non existent sunset since I had the settings basically on rock bottom made me stop playing.

My experience with dell

I order a laptop XPS studio on March this year

In May after a lot of calls asking what happened they send to me an ordinary email saying that is lost in the send. (a problem of Send department)

That I have 2 options, they can send it again or return my money.

I didn want to wait another month so I ask for the money (but it will take 48 days)

However they charge the 3 monthly quotas from my credit card.

Now in August Im still waiting for my money.

the heat isn't a concern for me...Keep the bottom vented and it will do fine. going on 4 months..not doing much gaming...Ran portal, bioshock, TF2 easily.

best advice is upgrade to 9 cell battery and will creat space underneath the laptop allowing air to flow through and ventilate and another great addon is a chill pad. check out best buy and look for a chill pad that blow cool air INTO the laptop instead of the pads that suck hot air out. i heard they dont work too great.

well apparently there is a bios update that helps with the heat.. but the vent is placed poorly and is blocked by the screen when opened. its a big design flaw, but if the heat still isnt too bad im still going to get this computer. but im also strongly considering the m1330 because the xps13 also seems to attract lots of fingerprints overtime.

the real problems with this computer is not finger prints or heat....its the locking up.

And if your lucky..your computer will wobble on three legs...

I fixed the locking up...do a clean install...

I've read the XPS 13 has a tone of problmes with freezing and DPC latency spikes.... have you had any problems? there is a tool you can google called dpc latency checker and it will tell you if you are getting any dpc latency spikes... do you know if you have this problem that so many xps 13 users are reporting? would really appreciate your feedback coz i just ordered one and i want to cancel it before it comes if it's a problem with all of the xps 13 laptops. how's your one?
