  • Cape Cod is nothing like this. lmfao

  • Janitor Marvin brought me here.

  • So THIS is where I heard this song first---(many moons ago). a truly beautiful song, beautifully sung. WHERE OH WHERE have the REAL song writers gone ? Today, every kid who thinks he's a bit of a musician, AUTOMATICALLY it seems, thinks he's a song writer too. How often do you here them say, 'I'm writing my new album next week' might be technically true, but usually forgetable crud. There are exceptions of course---but very few.

  • The best interpretation - period.

  • I can't believe she ripped off Groove Armada. Some people... ;)

  • Close your eyes and you are taken to a different time and a different feeling. Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • like if madmen bought you here

  • 3 people didn’t get served by a window with an ocean view.

This song is so cool mellow and easy listening.

The song is also featured in DIE HARD 2 (1990)

  • love it! Cape Cod is a special place on this here blue planet :)

  • Old Cape Cod is a beautiful song sung by Patti Page, and Cape Cod is a beautiful & charming place..Love both the song and the place!!!

  • What a talent! Beautiful stylish woman with an unbeatable voice.

In fact I saw some footage of her singing this song recently and her voice hasn't lost a thing despite being pretty old now.

  • The singing itself makes it a great recording, but it's the personality that comes through and makes it a masterpiece.....

  • I lived cape cod

  • Just great...

  • What a voice, never to be repeated I think...

  • @kuiniotepo lol!

  • This music is played in the movie "Die Hard 2." :)))

  • Oh god!

    Her voice so lovely!

  • This one's for you J.

  • I love Patti Page. She has a phenomenal singing voice. I love music from this era. It's so much better than today's music.

  • Esta mujer me hizo que yo me enamorara cuando era joven

  • grrrrrrr....i hate it when out-of-staters/tourists try and act like they know what living on Cape really is like....

  • Oh my goodness!! I am 13 and I love this music!!!! I love Jo Stafford, Patti Page, Elvis Presley, ect. I wish I lived in those times!! I have an American Girl doll from the 30s and my grandmother talked about how much she loved the 30s, 40s, and 50s... wow

  • Ahhh Just Absolutely Lovely Song!!!..Thankyou Nick for sharing...Anita..:)

  • this was in the movie die hard 2

  • Amazing!

  • Pati Page is one of the rare kind of singers that makes you listen to the words of the song. Such a warm and intimate voice. And the orchestral arrangement is fantastic.

  • A very classy lady, with a great voice.

  • preciosa voz y maravillosa orquesta ,que pena que ahora las voces no tengan estas orquestas detras

  • I like Groove Armada's version. Check the song At the River.

  • I heard this on The Paul O'Grady Show ( yea I know ), on Radio 2 yesterday. Good innit ?

  • i never like old ass music....mostly 70's and up.....but her voice is beautiful

  • How wantsome chowder and clamcakes. maybe a few little necks on the half with cold 'Gansett. Put a few dimes in the jukebox and listen to Patti. How time flys. Seems like yesteday. At least I can still hear her. great voice. Thanks!

  • Just heard the Puppini Sisters do this same song, this is better. Don't get me wrong , the sisters are good, this is just better.

  • HELL SON I THOUGHT ONLY QUEERS AND STEERS CAME FROM CAPE COD

AND YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE A STEER TO ME

  • I counted the number of asterisks at the end of the title of this video. I thought you were censoring the word "bitch".

  • the singing rage...miss patti page...

  • Is Patti Page dead now?

  • if patty is still alive she would be proud of the puppini sisters and there verson of this great song. i love this style of music.i was borne in the 70s but my mom and dad(rip dad love and miss you.) listened to this style of music alot so i kind of grew up with it. the puppini sisters have brought it back big time. please ck them out. if we could only bring back route 66.

  • Oh my God, it was 1956 and I was 14. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

    Thanks Patti

  • Awesome voice and awesome song! :-)

  • lovely song...in Die Harder, right (in the basement of that airport or sumthing)

  • What a great tune for a great film Die hard 2.

  • Long live Die Hard 2 along with movie makers to have us, the audience re-live those super nice moments of music which should be with us forever.... big THANKS

    Bruno

  • Corny but COOOOL

  • This song is lovely, but what Groove Armada did with it is just amazing.

  • fuck sake..you idiots..just listen to the fucking song..instead of talking about rednecks, racism, gays..or what the hell ever you idiots have somehow grabbed from this psoting....PISS OFF!!!

  • such a sweet voice!

    i love it!

    thx for sharing!!!!

  • Oh, for fuck's sake, you redneck morons, stop sending me your idiotic comments. This song has absolutely nothing to do with your delusional nostalgia of a 1950's America. It's just a great song.

  • @brokenscimitar

    BAHAHAHA agreed

  • I remember a version featured in Die Hard 2 that had a chorus supporting her. I wonder if that one is up here...

  • That version was a remix she made later the same year using her own voice multi-tracked. I like this version better, it's clean and crisp.

  • There is now a street name Patti Page Way in Centerville, Massachusetts, part of Cape Cod!

  • oh this is blissful..

  • Timeles music. My favourite Patty Page song. It perfectly captures the mood of a holiday in a small village. Mrs Page sings brilliantly.

  • Damn Patti Page and her time machine - stealing material from Groove Armada!

  • Isn't it funny how you can feel nostalgic about an era that preceded you by 20/30 years?

  • Awesome!! Where has the good music like this gone???

  • Wonderful.....now this is REAL music.

  • If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air, quaint little villages here and there. I love the sample of this song in Groove Armada.

  • Old Cape Cod is another Patti Page multi million song.

  • To Crockett007.. I couldn't agree with you more. I have nothing to add. Your description was wonderful and so true. Great, great music indeed!

  • Oh to be on Cape Cod in the 50's - must have been heaven!

  • I love this woman...her and Joni Mitchell are very special

  • This music puts me at ease. It's a much welcome alternative to the dross that pollutes the radio airwaves nowadays.

It's just so pure, and innocent, much like the ear it's from. It makes one yearn for a pretty girl with high morals and a solid family.

A road trip to Cape Cod, and a picnic along the Atlantic under the warm August sun, and a romantic walk along the beach without a care in the world.

    Sigh.

  • I hear you and agree 100%!!

  • thanks and i agree as well

  • The version from Die Hard 2 is Patti Page's ORIGINAL hit recording in 1957. Yes, It's GREAT

  • Too bad your mother didnt exercise her "prochoice", you low mercenary asshole without anything to believe in.

  • Is this all that comes out of your mouth?? You my friend have a serious mental problem

  • @brokenscimitar But back then, even black folks had a better chance of getting a job that was enough to cover basic living expenses than even white males do now. The only "homeless" people I recall were old men who lived to drink. Entire Families only became homeless following natural disasters (like tornados and earthquakes) or fires. No, "housewives" of the time didn't work, because even working class hubbies had a jobs that paid enough so they didn't have to. Yes, times have changed

  • And gay people STILL don't have equal rights!

  • @markbob120 They will, when they burn in the fires of Hell.

  • @yamejanakaratoprak up your mother's stretched out assholea1

  • @markbob120 You MEAN LIKE YOU BORN OUT OF YOUR FATHER'S ASSHOLE, DESPICABLE HOMO FAGGOT!!!!!

  • i know this is stupid, but a really cool version of this song can be heard in Die Hard 2---the scene where Bruce Willis is in the bowels of the airport and he finds a record playing in the janitor's little office, and the janitor startles him, and he almost shoots him.

Just thought I'd mention it......i wish i was along in the 50s---great jazz great rock and roll, sinatra pumping out classics every year...what a decade!

  • Not stupid at all!!, I've been investigating in IMDB after watching the movie, because I loved that song too. Actually it sounded familiar to me: Groove Armada - "At the river". Have a nice day!

  • So funny you should say that, because i'm watching that movie right now and was wondering who's song it was :P I love this music!!!!

  • I wish everyone could discover youtube and the absolute fabulous entertainment available like this song and artist! Saturday night in the 50's it would be time for Hit Parade and week after week of this marvelous music.

    Thanks for sharing this treasure.

  • bueno, lastima que apenas la conosco ahora, pues me encanta, gracias por la recomendacion

  • Britney; longer-skirt, pants-on, knees-together...

Talent is timeless; hope you find a TRUE-friend & impress your grandchildren...

  • This brings back the feel of the 50s so vividly. I was about 5 when it was a hit. I still get all squidgy listening to it now, as i did then. Such a gorgeous song and PP's voice is like velvet. Thanks for posting.

  • at 52, and a product of the 60's music era which I truly enjoy....you cna't deny the absolute ppure talent of Patti even today still preforming. What a pleasure to hear real talent. I guess I save my money and buy some old vinyl and reflect on a generation of music that will probably never return.

  • This is one of my favorites I earned the right to have a drivers license in 1956. In 57 I was driving to the Cape in my dads 55 Bel Air listening to Patti on WBZ radio 103. Thanks for the flashback.

  • This is the first time I have heard this song - I am only 17. I LOVE it. I love these recording of pure, excellent voices instead of the overproduced stuff on the airwaves today. I really makes me want to go to Cape Cod. A can almost smell the salt air.

  • If, as a Mexican-American, I was raised with these kind of wonderfully, beautifully, talented Artists, is it any wonder that I envied as well as longed to become a white(never to be) person?

  • What an incredible voice that is timeless! Truly a legend that has given generations many hours of enjoyment!

  • this is my all time favorite from her. very pleasing

  • I am going swimming right now 3.00pm 8-26-09. Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod. What better way to say goodbye to Sen. Ted Kennedy!!

  • i really love her voice... and i'm a teenager! i am just in love with patti page =)

  • what a wonderful voice

    just one of a kind

  • m1212121,

I totally agree with your comment.

    Best wishes,

    trooper7h

  • This is her second recording of the song I think its when she went to Columbia. The original Mercury version had all the harmonies.

  • Robert4770,

In 1948 Page appeared on the top-rated Breakfast Club on Chicago radio and sang with the Benny Goodman Septet. In the same year she had her first hit record Confess, on which, in the cause of economy, she overdubbed her own voice to create the effect of a vocal group. In 1949, she used that revolutionary technique again on her first million-seller, With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming. The song was re-released 10 years later with a more modern orchestral backing.

    regards,

    trooper7h

  • groove armada covers this song well, but the original is just incomparable

  • One of my very best memories of an otherwise difficult childhood, was when My Mom would hear this song, & sing along; she loved it so much, the tears would come as she sang along. What a gorgeous, gorgeous song, sung by a total pro who knows how to do it right. Wolfsky9

  • I remeber coming home from Plymouth,Ma. when I was young. This song would come on the AM radio and dad would put the volume up.

  • Never such a voice. The timbre almost sounds like she is singing 2 part harmony. I have loved this Lady's singing for almost 60 years. Connie Smith, Cleo Laine and Vikki Carr have it to, but not like this. This is one of a kind.

  • When I was a kid growing up on a ranch in the middle of nowhere...my parents made a trip into town and brought this back home on a 45. I had a Barbie record player and played this song over and over. I've been singing the lyrics over and over in my head for more than 40 years. It's a beautiful song. Thanks very much for posting this!

  • I remeber hearing this song when I was about 8 years old while staying on Vason Island in Puget Sound in Washington State. It has always stuck in my mnd since then. Just happened to think about it on Youtube and sure enough found it. Nice Post!!!!

  • I live in Tulsa where Patti (Clara Fowler) got her start--she was from nearby Claremore. Love her voice and her songs. What a tribute--thank you

  • amazing song and very nice voice

  • fantastic!!!!

  • I heard a sample of this song in Groove Armada's 'At the River' and fell in love with it. Just two lines "If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air. Quaint little villages here and there". Had to hear the rest :) It's a lovely song sung by a lovely voice.

  • My folks honeymooned on Cape Cod in June of '58. 51 years on they still talk about it.

I was just trying to learn this on guitar and I swear Brian Wilson had this in the back of his mind when he wrote Surfer Girl; think about it!

  • I have to say that by reading back over the blog, it is easy to see that everyone who has ever lived there or visited there has memories. One blogger said it best, " there is still remnants of Old Cape Cod if you look"... Yes, it has grown with the times, as all resort areas have, but the Cape has tried like the dickens to retain its old charm and I for one give the folks there complements on that.

  • sfr002yahoo,

It's alway good to hear from residents of Cape Cod.:)

    Thank you for your input.:)

As a native of Cape Cod you have much to be envious of, if the words of this song are anything to go by.:)

    My best wishes to you.

  • there's some music like this out there, check out Nicole Atkins. this really reminds me of her, i'd be surprised if she is influenced by Patti Page and others.

  • This song always reminds me of a woman I used to know . This was her favorite tune . And when we were out in clubs on the Cape she would always play this song on the juke box . Wonder where Mary Ellen Marceau is now ?

  • dan508,

  • Patti Page sang all her songs with such feeling and sincerity, really a class act. Visited Cape Cod many years ago, it is a beautiful place something like where I live in Ireland. Song brings back great memories.

  • "Old Cape Cod" is such an evocative song and sung by Patti Page with her very evocative voice makes for the perfect blend.

Patti's voice still makes my toes curl - even at my advanced age...:)

    trooper7h

  • great song. the cape still has places that tug your heart and hold great memories. synics will be anywhere and are never happy with anything

  • gmgfun,

This Song is so evocative not only for the lucky people who know and love the location personally - but also to people of my generation from all over the World who fell in love with the voice of Patti Page...

I fell in love with the voice first and then the Lady when I was a teenager...

This song has proved to be the most popular with everyone because it is so evocative.

  • Heavenly voice ! ! ! ! !

  • I fell in love with the voice when I was in my teens...I am now 72yo and still in love with Patti and the voice. :)

  • I must confess I wasn't familiar with her before this. I only knew The Puppini Sisters' version of this song (also good). Since "discovering" her I have been listening to all her songs on YouTube... sadly there isn't much!
